Great to see order has been established and Hank put in his place. Passive aggressive threats involving the phrase "Tread Lightly" should increase as a result. As for Jesse - this guilt trip he's on feels so played out and foreign to his character of old. Just leave the country FFS. Painting him as an on going liability seems like a cop out for the writers.

Welcome home, Walter.

That whole scene was like the visual version of the Ozymandias poem. Gave me chills.

I forgot the whole deal with the Ricin-- which future Walt went back for.

Can someone refresh my memory?

Walt swiped the Ricin from Jesse and planted it on Gus or something?

So a character should just be always artificially "doing" something in a scene? They shouldn't be challenged to reflect grief, loss, or the feeling of being completely broken down in a realistic way?

Never said they shouldn't. Hell I'm not one of those that is against Jesse this episode. I did find that Star Trek scene a little boring on Jesse's part, but I definitely understand why he's like that.

I definitely think Jesse is gonna team up with Hank.

I think Hank is going to find himself in quite a pickle when he inevitably discovers Skyler's part in the whole thing, along with the clearly remorseful Jesse.

I took Walt's threat to Hank less as a physical thing and more as a general "you have no fucking idea how far deep this goes." Walt is certainly capable of inflicting physical harm or worse on Hank, but I think Hank will be more screwed up when he discovers the extent of Walt's influence on others around him. How would Marie react to her sister possibly being sent to prison, and would she blame Hank if that came to pass? How would Hank deal with knowing he could lose his wife, and what of Junior and Holly?

That is the greatest harm Walt inflicts; he corrupts and manipulates those around him with his malignant influence. As has been clear for a long while now, Walt is the cancer.

Last scene was fantastic but pretty much the rest of the episode was not very good at all in my opinion.

I thought the Star Trek stuff was weird, but I think Julie Bowen was on the money when she suggested it was the writers using meta commentary to ponder the place the show will have in TV history.

Walt had Saul get the ricin from Jesse in order to make Jesse believe Gus took it and used it on Brock. Afterwards, Walt got it back from Saul and hid it behind the outlet.

Finally caught up, great show.

I hope some of Jesse, Hank, Skyler and their friends and family actually make out alive and somewhat happy away from Walt at the end of the series, but I have a feeling that almost all of them are going to be dead or emotionally destroyed at the end :(

I thought that whole scene was pretty hilarious. Badger's childish inanity vs. Jesse's broken soul.

Lmao at the cries for "confident" or "cornered" Jesse. The Jesse depicted in today's episode is the only resolutely human personage on the show, the only person not subjected to gratuitous caricaturing by the series' writers. It's as though everyone her has not a clue how actual human beings work.

This show is entertaining, but it's obvious with this first episode of the last stretch that it's never joining the pantheon of the greatest shows on television. Breaking Bad is an elaborate, beautifully shot, well-performed farce and just doesn't compare to television's best.

So how have the other characters been charactured(sp?)

I agree about Jesse though, 100%

but.. I'm curious what do you think the characters have done that isn't human?

yeah kinda feeling the same way

the beginning was really chilling and good too

jesse stuff feels like a rehash of beginning of season 4

also the hank montage had some goofy ass music

walt putting the towel down was too on the nose after the car wash scene with lidia

All very true. I absolutely love the characters on this show, and I'm really hoping to see Hank be the one put an end to it. I have a feeling he'll fail because it'll be considered "easy," but I also thought he'd kick the bucket in season 3...

I'd bet money everyone (Jessie, Skyler) turns on Walt and he kills Hank.

Jesse was fantastic in this episode. He clearly didn't believe Walt and was figuring out what to do about that. And him throwing money was a great scene. It's also clear that he will help Hank being Walt down, and most likely have more of those badass Jesse scenes as the season goes on.

I'd bet it's Lydia who outs Walt as the meth king. She has plenty of motivation - suffering business and threat from Skyler.

Lydia is out for blood now.

Wow, they got down to business way quicker than I thought. Probably a better idea in the long run. Will make the rest of the season that much more interesting to watch how their conflict unfolds.

Jesse's really bothering me right now. He always has some shit that's bothering him. He's tying with Skyler for most irritating person on the show right now.

Speaking of Skyler, I know she's generally hated among everyone, but goddamn, I would love to invade that. <3

Well it's possible I heard him wrong, he said a few lines during that scene rather low. Anyone else know if it was "I" or "you"? If he said HE doesn't give a shit about family, Hank needs to lay off the rage lol

I just saw it right now and Hank definitely was referring to Walt. It would make no sense for him to say that he (Hank) wouldn't care about family.

Not gonna lie I was like no fucking way they are gonna pull this. Think they pulled it off better in the show though.

Oh yea the scene was perfect. Walt didn't give Hank any satisfaction, but that final line of "tread lightly" was just enough of an admission of guilt.

Fucking brilliant. The details were best left unsaid.

Really great stuff. The payoff at the end was great. Been waiting to see something like that happen for the last few seasons.

Typical Walt. First he tries to weasel out of it, with half truths and appeals to sympathy. When that doesn't work he threatens.

Hank was always one of my favorite characters. Here's hoping that Walt doesn't off him to quickly, if at all. Not that I think anything like that will happen until the final episode, since it does seem like this half of the season will be largely a Walt v. Hank conflict.

Very strange that Walt did this even though he was never there when Gus did..... All that stuff.

It's just a visual reference. All the "inheritance" stuff could be as shallow as that, really. It's not like the writers have ever come out and admitted to that being a thing with Walt's character.

How is it foreign to his character? He hasn't really cared about money since S2, and S2 and S4 should make it obvious he would be devastated by the death of Drew. Perfectly in line with his character. I agree it wasn't all that interesting, but it's only the premiere.

Don't see that happening. Turning someone in that the cartel wants back in would be detrimental in my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing about how typically Walt the final scene was.

Hank pushed through all his bullshit quicker than Gus, Skyler, Mike, and Jessie combined. I love him.

Not if the cartel bails. They want Heisenberg and he's left the building. Lydia's trying to maintain it's not working? Yeah, I can see them telling her to kick corporate rocks and then her flipping her shit as a result. Sure.

shit i think i spoiled a good half of the remaining episodes for myself with a leak. I read part of it thinking it was just speculation, but it got the first episode down scene for scene..

Good thing I didn't read the rest...

I agree it wasn't all that interesting, but it's only the premiere.

I personally find it interesting on a show where many characters have to mask, hide, or suppress their soul-sucking guilt/dread etc. to see someone so smashed into pieces and not attempting to hide it at all. That's what made the Skyler in the pool scene so powerful.

he finds the tracker, then it faded to black and said "stay tuned for a preview from next weeks episode, and now an encore of low sun" or whatever its called. unless im imagining things, i left the channel on and i definitely didn't get that final scene!
AMC always does that during the last commercial. It's the same on the walking dead. It's going to happen again next week too. Don't walk away next time.

the opening and ending were certainly the best parts of the episode.

i kind of want them to just get this stuff over with and get to that time period in the future. i want like at least 3 episodes there.
