Oh god, first blood on the shoe.

And to think all of this is basically spelled out TO THE LETTER in The Big Short, now that I think of it. How bonds are interconnected and one drop can ruin everyone and all that.

Absolute fucking insanity with the GDP right now. When I was in London in '09 it was about 1.60 USD for 1 GDP. Now it's 1 USD for 1.34 GDP.

This is not true. How do so many people fail to understand the markets? It is 1 pound to $1.33 right now. The dollar is still the weaker currency, but it has dropped by a HUGE amount in one day.

Oh wow, this answers so many more.

So if this result encourages Northern Ireland and Scotland to break off from the rest of the UK, we could be witnessing the beginning of the dissolving of the UK as we know it...

Kind of ironic that the Leave supporters wanted to make a stronger UK.

UK is finished, make no bones about it.

wtf does keikaku mean? I need an interpreter.

plan... All according to plan... Its meme.

I hope the fallout of this... My Father and I were discussing... UK will safe itself by becoming an associate EU member or allow Scotland and N.I.R to remain part of the EU while England and Wales leave.

Another scenario is Scotland leaves the UK and becomes independent with EU support.

If you lot are in charge we are done. Your comment is retarded.

Too young to remember 2008?

When companies lose value, they lay off people.

That had way more to do with stuff beyond the stock market. We're talking about systemic risks, credit flows, institutions literally going under. This is more of a panic sale like we've seen numerous times over the last 8 years whether it was about China or Greece or whatever.

BREAKING: Sinn Fein says "British government has forfeited any mandate to represent economic or political interests of people in N Ireland"
LOL 'Sinn Fein' & 'Political Interest'.

So, do people that are adamant that Trump has no chance to win still feel that way?

Not being a smartass, legit asking.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Oh I see, the standard "Stage 1" circuit breaker is at -7%, for the Japan stock exchange indexed to the Nikkei 225.

The NYSE has the same circuit breaker, tied to the S&P 500.

Yup same thing applies on the NYSE or similar, I believe it's 8% in the US but I'm not 100% positive on that.

So how long till Ireland and Scotland break away? What's the upside here for them?
Escape English and Tory neglect.
Thrive as a vibrant, progressive, diverse and welcoming small country.
Get weapons of mass destruction the fuck away from 30 miles from my home.
Scotland. And he's apparently hated there big time.
He and his shitty golf courses can kindly do one :)
Can an independent Scotland support itself economically?
Absolutely. And I strongly believe we don't even need North Sea crude oil to do so either.

Devastated this morning, I am trying to start a career and this will cause me great problems.

I hope they raid the pension pot so everyone will feel the pain on this and have massive youth protests in London.

This country. This country. Feel isolated. I hate this country right now. Job at risk today. My wife's job won't stand a chance.

Sorry mate. It's sickening to think that this is going to cause so much self-inflicted real-time pain for a lot of people, and even worse that there will be so much collateral damage for those who were pro Union. Wishing you and your missus the best.

So if I buy now from Amazon.co.uk, will my credit card apply the current exchange rate? 🤔

What does this mean?

When both Ireland and Northern Ireland (part of the UK) were in the EU, there was the Schengen Area and there were no border controls between Ireland and the UK, both member nations. Now that the UK has left the EU, there is now no longer a Schengen Area and therefore the UK and Ireland must now decide if they will now have an enforceable border between two sovereign nations.

Thanks to everyone who answered and put it in perspective for me. Thread moving to fast to quote everyone.

Never underestimate the power of bigotry.

This is bad. Not only for the UK, but I can see this triggering a chain reaction in the EU

I feel bad for all my British mates. Terrifying shit

Xenophobia won and everyone will likely suffer as a result. Stay strong UK GAF. I can only hope us Americans don't succumb to similar sentiments this November.

Former Blair adviser Alister Campbell saying a "hard border" between the Republic and Northern Ireland will now happen. Christ Britain, what have you done?!

I doubt that's going to happen as long as Ireland stays out of Schengen. The NI border controls in the past were awful - nobody wants to go back to that.

Good luck telling the same people who voted NO then to secure the EU and not be unable to get back in to vote NO this time to stay in the... Oh wait.

Shrug. I dunno. Votes can change is all. One way or another. Turns out the British public is not so easily predicted. Who knows how we will feel in five years or two?
