Why are people shocked that a majority of voters only care about immigration ? It's the same shit in France. People vote far right and want out of the EU only because of immigration. It's immigration this immigration that. Voters don't give a fuck about anything else.

I feel like a year ago brits would have voted for Remain and if it weren't for the refugee crisis and terrorist attacks in Paris the UK would still be part of the EU.
Hate breeds hate, unfortunately.

Those doing their whole "Rule Britannia" "Make our country great again!" "No more EU holding us back!" bit are in for a very rude awakening when this sets in.
Let them enjoy these few hours. When their reality comes crashing down around them in the next week they'll need all the positive thoughts they can muster for themselves.

Ok, I'm pretty ignorant about the economy.

Someone I know voted for leaving because he thinks the housing prices will go down, is he right or just full of shit?

They probably will go down, thanks to the upcoming and unavoidable recession that will come after this: loss of jobs, lower salaries, etc...

So yeah, he was right...in a very sad way.

I'm so glad this was done as a direct vote, people with your political insight should be on the BBC, not these so called 'experts' with their 'doctorates' and 'experience'.

Morning Phi. Sorry about the exchange rates. Might want to hold off on that order if you can to see if there's a recovery on the pound.

I'm so glad I stayed up. I feel like I just watched history unfold. Wouldn't trade that for anything.

There's a lot of disappointment in this thread right now, but I feel confident and hopeful. There are challenges ahead, but we'll face them and go forward.

Anyway, I'll leave it there for now.

Thanks Quiche,

Glad you saw it unfold - I remember doing the same when the Berlin Wall came down and South Africa came free. It's a "being there" thing that you'll remember forever!

I do think it is really really important now for people *not* to run around casting blame (and I imagine this aspect would have been a lot worse had the result gone the other way round).

Stiff upper lip guys.

And SMILE at everyone you meet today folks. Even for Leave voters this is something of a shock and worst thing we could possibly do is gnaw each other to bits.

I'll try to mull over the possible political consequences and post later. Economic ones are going to be right in our face anyway.

So, do people that are adamant that Trump has no chance to win still feel that way?

Not being a smartass, legit asking.

He really has no chance because Hillary is not relying on White male voters who long for their Nationalistic former years where it was more white. The US is diverse enough to withstand those type of voters. And White women hate him as well so he doesn't have those either.

Those fucking cunts! I want to smash the shit out of everyone who voted for this. The worst thing is that there is nothing that can be done. I have no control over my future.

The UK is done. Our economy is fucked. Those grey haired twats and racist fucktards have ruined everything.

I can't even talk to members of my family again after this.

There is no where I can go to escape... It is a nightmare I can't wake up from.

Okay, couple of questions.

1) What happens when markets open?
Absolute carnage, sell everything and invest in Gold.

2) What happens if it's 'bad'?
I'm not sure there is an if. When it is bad, the global economy will be sent spiralling into recession, Unemployment is gonna go up, many businesses will stop being businesses, but hey at least we can stop the mass immigration of eastern Europeans who have actually had a positive impact on our economy.

3) What is the likelihood of inflation and recession etc?
Recession is all but a lock atm.

Firstly, thank you for answering.

Secondly, :(.

I had selfish reasons for wanting the UK to stay in, it would have left open the door for me to move there easily. Perhaps that wasn't such a great privilege anyway.

When both Ireland and Northern Ireland (part of the UK) were in the EU, there was the Schengen Area and there were no border controls between Ireland and the UK, both member nations. Now that the UK has left the EU, there is now no longer a Schengen Area and therefore the UK and Ireland must now decide if they will now have an enforceable border between two sovereign nations.

The UK has never been part of Schengen. That's not an entirely EU thing.

The US won't elect Trump. You have a 30% minority electorate. UK is 10%.

White working class did this to themselves here. Not enough minorities to save them from their own stupidity.

So the interesting questions now are
1. What kind of travel requirements will be imposed on brits and vice vers europeans
2. Will banks and financial institutes move to mainland europe or will they stay in london?
3. Will the industry stay in UK or possibly silently move out due to possible tarrifs
4. What will happen with the Brits leaving outside of UK? Will they be deported due to the lack of a visa?

Etc. Etc.

Will there be additional tariffs though? It's one thing for the public to vote to separate, but it's another for political leaders to start instituting policy that is detrimental to trade. You would think the businesses and people who lobby politicians would not allow their economic stakes to be greatly damaged due to a popular vote. At least, not without a fight.

For is lazy folks. Why is this important?
The economy is circling the shitpan, leave have just flushed the lever.

Watch interest rates rise today, mortgages and debt will rise.

It's devastating news.

I hope the left in the UK can lick their wounds and reassess their policies on immigration and integration. Their complete ineptitude in that area seems to have caused many to vote for concerns of security over concerns of economics.

Unfortunately, I fear many who care about workers and the poor will simply accuse others of being racist and further alienate those with legitimate security concerns.
