Bungie Weekly Update: 06/29/07

I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one who looks forward to these updates. Last night, I was furiously refreshing bungie.net and getting pretty pissed off that the update wasn't posted. Then I realized it was thursday... :lol

Worst feeling in the world. But you should just check for 1up Show/Yours to signify the true start of the weekend.

There's a theme in this week's Update I expect to see a lot of. An evil, yet wonderful theme.

No one has mastered the art of the cocktease like Frankie. :lol

On September 25th, Bungie bares all (of Halo 3, anyways). They really are holding their cards back till the last minute.
At least it is not THAT long of a wait. I am sure everything Frankie is talking about is going to be shown at E3.

I'm sure some of it will.

I'm absurdly excited about that new gametype. I'm a big fan of vehicle battles, and crazy mad in love with objective games. So that seems like a game type made just for me.

(I do hope BTB latency is better in the final game than the Beta.)

Sorry. It's already late night here in Europe and I'm quite slow now. I guess I should go to bed.
I was trying to cover my not getting your reference (it worked!); in digging that post up I thought I was being clever. I should have known better!

You know, I was just struck by a thought. Happens from time to time.

Bungie has so much multiplayer content up their sleeves - maps, game types, weapons, vehicles, etc. - that they could walk into E3 with next to nothing concerning single player and still dump a ton of goodies on the gaming media.

Would be cool if they opened up the press conference with this Huge battle sequence of halo3, like they did with gears of War.

Truthfully, I hope their E3 showing is heavily weighted towards the mp.

I want the campaign to feel like a virgin on her wedding night come 9/25.

that would ****ing awesome!

have Sgt. Johnson start if off by saying like "wake your ass up Soldier! it's not over yet.." and have Master Chief's visor flash on in the middle of a warzone with Bungie playing a 5-8 minute demo.

I think we'll have a little bit of deja vu soon, in a number of ways.

At E3 2004, Bungie showed Halo 2 MP for the first time, and unveiled the Elite in MP. Frank hinted a few upates ago that we'd know a lot more about the existance of Elites in Halo 3 MP soon. I think that may be part of the package at E3; that or the new EGM.

Also, EGM got the exclusive reveal of campaign one issue before they reviewed Halo 2 (sound familiar?). In that issue, they showed Outskirts and Metropolis and unveiled the Drone. But none of that content was in the context of a story - we didn't hear about the Scarab, or the slipstream jump, or the bomb in the first level. Nada - just lots of screens and some gameplay details.

I'm expecting more of the same - some features, some locations, but almost zero story. So I'm not worried about what Bungie will unveil this time around, since they have shown so little in the past before release.

Yeah, Shrine was being referred to in the update. I was just hoping they used Sidewinder as its inspiration.
Read post #7. :p

Nice blue-balling update tonight.

...making screenshots of replays from different angles, and not only saving them on our HDD's, but being able to upload them stealthly confirmed? Nice!

Hmmm. 70.9TB, assuming 1000GB per TB for the Windows drive space display, would be 70,900,000MB. If the 25MB limit remains for pictures and saved films as far a Bungie.net/XBL uploads, that will be used up once 2,836,000 people max out their online storage space. Bungie, you need to get at least 100TB of storage ;)

Sketch just put something on my desk. An object. It is an amazing object. Sometimes it glitters, and sometimes it steals light from this universe, and passes it into another one, where it is no doubt gorged upon by 5th dimensional megabeings. Hopefully someone will show it at E3, or Leipzig, or one of the upcoming game events. It is an object that will be lusted after for years to come. I wish I could say more, but I would get stabbed, or throttled, no doubt.

So WTF is that?

I'm looking forward to any vehicle-based battle modes in MP. But as Ghaleon can tell you, don't let me drive your Warthog.

Oh, and Stinkles: seeing as how you're a big Dune fan, I say Bungie should do an attract mode for Halo 3 that pays homage to the Dune movie intro (either version, the still based version, or the Princess Irulan version, which could be narrated by Cortana instead) to get the audience caught up on what's happened since the start of the first game. :D

Part of me agrees with you 100%...the other part of me has a knife and makes demands. Come 08/01, I'm closing the door on forum chit chat till I've played through campaign.

I really hope that rumor about Halo DS isn't true.

The rumor in its current form would certainly suck, since the DS can't do 3D well at all.

But I'd like some kind of game in the Halo universe on the portable system.

Awesome Update. Now I just need E3 to hurry up so I can have another video to watch over and over to keep myself out of the corner, fetal postition assumed.

Short update, but it was full of stinklesy! Great update! New gametype sounds amazing!

"Hay guys,” says Lars. “Come try my new gametype on this massive, vehicle-suitable map,” he says.

“No wai,” says Luke, “Ah hate vehicles with a venomous, searing passion that boils my soul into an acid black vapor.”

“I spit on your vehicle game,” he adds, and actually spits, for emphasis.

So cut to like, an hour later and Luke’s face is red and bursting with joy. He’s hooting and hollering and now claims that riding vehicles is, “Better than chocolate covered unicorns.”
:lol :lol :lol :lol

IGN: Did the three gadgets in the beta turn out as you'd hoped? Did people use them in unexpected ways or was it on par with Bungie's private beta testing?

O'Connor: People used them just as we'd hoped, and we think that the introduction of more of them in the final game will be easily accepted and adopted by players as a result. Some of them are cool, some of them are plain nasty. Using equipment in Campaign is really interesting though. You're not the only one who can deploy equipmentÂ…

Interesting

So Luke has a secret place on b.net, where he drops interesting little tidbits like

This morning, after hitting Starbucks with Mission Designer Dan Miller, I saw Audio Lead Jay Weinland carrying a huge box out of his office, toward the stairs (the very stairs that lead up to the area where Frank and I work).

"Luke, perfect timing," he says, handing me the box. "Here's all the stuff I ordered for you." The heavy box and I headed upstairs, toward the light and destiny...

Podcast equipment for Luke and Frankie?! :D

For some reason I thought Marty was the audio lead or does he only do the music?

Nonsense, it could have been anything.

I've been wondering about equipment in campaign. The gravity lift was the only item that was clearly Covenant in both visual design and technology, so I assumed they would have it on hand for deployment. And if they can use that one, that opens up a whole can of worms. I'm also curious how the AI will respond to equipment deployments - will allies use a dropped bubble shield properly, for example. If Bungie nails the AI, the addition of equipment to Campaign could really spice up the core Halo gameplay.

sounds like the return (in some shape or form) of halo 1's rally! kick ass, that was a lot of fun back in the day. i can only imagine how cool it would be with more players and ehicles on a larger map.

also, the shiny object placed on the desk to be shown at e3 or leipzig... certainly a demo disc? or a disc with footage?

He says it will be "lusted after for years to come", so I don't think it's a disc. Dunno there.

frank tends to exaggerate in these updates though... ;)

I have a question... Does Jason Jones exist? I never see interviews with him... never seen a Bungie update mention him... yet he is like the lead designer of Halo and my personal god.

wtf
