President Bush granted THE WASHINGTON TIMES an extensive and exclusive interview late Tuesday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

President Bush said yesterday that he doesn't "see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.

Mr. Bush told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that many in the public misunderstand the role of faith in his life and his view of the proper relationship between religion and the government.

"I think people attack me because they are fearful that I will then say that you're not equally as patriotic if you're not a religious person," Mr. Bush said. "I've never said that. I've never acted like that. I think that's just the way it is.

BUT YOU JUST DID.

When you lied to the US public about WMD's... did you pray to your lord about that? Did you apologize? Did you ask for his forgiveness? Cause you certainly didn't apologize to the families of the slain US soldiers or the US public in general....

Which is completely ridiculous since they're clearly endorsing a politician (I'm sure they're just emphasising that Moses talked to a BUSH :lol). I don't know -when- the image was taken though, so since I'm not completely familiar with how that part of the tax code works could play a part.

I really think that we'd be better off if some watchdogs started looking out for violations like these.

^^^ wow, i wonder how close that church is to losing tax-exempt status.

They seem okay so far. I took that picture back in October, and I think the sign is still up there. Unbelievable.

Sometimes I wonder if Earth is like one big fucking reality TV show for God. Things like this just continue to make me believe it's true.

Since I feel like tying this into my other thread (even if loosely) the Church of Satan believes that tax-exempt status should be revoked for all religious organizations.

Er, American presidents aren't ousted right after the election.

And this disgusts me in the most vile way.

Subtract God from this statement and I'd agree with you. It is indeed one big reality show but no one is watching.

He also said he "fights to protect the right to worship whatever way you want, or not at all."

And, he said "the great thing about this country was, for instance, someone could stand up and challenge "under god" in the pledge if they wanted to."

if Dubya was helping get more money out to communities via abortion clinics would you be happier?

i don't get it.

That's all well and good -- but then he said that someone who is not religious cannot be as patriotic as someone who is. Basically he said, "I never said that and I never acted like that, but that's how I feel". As if religious faith is a prerequisite for patriotism.

too bad he isn't listening to god. I think god cares more about looking after the poor and not staring wars, than tax cuts for the rich. He is nothing more than a hypocrite, preaching one thing while doing the exact opposite.

I agree on that note... I am all for the separation of religion and state. As we all know, ]Bush can't give speechs and he's prolly too hard headed to listen to his advisor. (ie they keep quitting) I think when he gets on the podium, he just gets nervous and starts saying stupid ass shit. LOL!

I mean "I never said that and I never acted like that, but that's how I feel" was NOT premeditated and his advisors are shitting right now. :D

To be honest, I'm prepared to take this as being quite an innocent comment. I hate the guy, I'm no Christian, and I'm not one of these people who come into vaguely anti-religious threads spouting chapter and verse as if it was some kind of counter-argument for a lack of faith. However ... for those that do believe, might it not be natural to make a comment along the lines: 'you don't have to have a religious creed to work here, but it sure does fucking help?'

And is he really saying anything more than that?

Do you believe in magic(k)?

On topic: I love how Bush gives no argument to show how it is impossible to be President without a relationship with god. I can come up with multiple scenarios in which the president doesn't even believe in god. Perhaps what Bush meant is "I don't see how you can be elected president without pretending to have a relationship with the Lord."

No, you gave a link to some satanic website and one of the "commandments" of Satanism is believe in magic, or something like that.

I must defend Bush here. In its plain text form, those words could be taken in many ways. When he says "That's just the way it is", I'm inclined to believe he's talking about the attacks on himself. He doesn't believe the attacks are fair, but he understands that there will always be such attacks.

How would belief in 'magick' be any different than a belief in a mystical being in the sky, fwiw?

And, no I'm not a Satanist.

No, it's more along the lines of never deny your belief in magic once you've accomplished anything with it, or you'll lose everything you achieved.
