This post is funny for several reasons, but the core reason is the fact that "100+ million customers" don't care because the PS5 version of those games will comfortably outsell the PS4 version.

Comfortably outsell doesn’t mean the last gen versions are going to do poorly. They’ll sell plenty of copies and then in a another year or so they’ll be gone and we can move on. The s is probably going to stick around all gen now since Microsoft wasn’t able to use their financial advantage to secure more chips and had to produce more s just to have a presence. And the missing features have already started while there’s Christmas trees with unwrapped series s customer who have no idea and were promised feature parity. Everyone that buys GT7 and HFW on PS4 Knows they won’t get a game with the same features on PS5. The people that try to play Halo at 120fps on their series or use VRR probably don’t.

If Series S is the majority console, its not good for both Series X and PS5 as next gen games going to be downgraded for Series S.

If you watch the DF video about The Matrix, development for the Series S actually benefited the PS5 version.

Now let's consider this scenario - we're looking at this week's sales. The only console readily available in both chains is the Series S. Next, you can also get the Series X in one of them. No PS5s available. If you get the isolated data for these consoles and are dishonest / looking for clicks, you can say "Series S sells more than PS5 and XSX combined! Xbox outselling Sony 10:1!". While the numbers would be true, the way they are presented is dishonest - the console is not outselling because it's better, or more desirable, but because one has no stock, while the other does.

I would love for MS to release sales numbers again, so that we can compare hardware sales overall - but there's a reason they don't.

That has nothing to do with Series S selling more than PS5 or Series X... or Xbox selling more than PS5.
Supply is the only reason.

With enough supply Series X should be selling more than Series S like MS planned (they where producing more X than S until they faced production issues) and PS5 should be selling more than Xbox (actually it is still is... I mean even in US alone it was like 100k difference in November... worldwide PS5 is probably still selling more).

well of course things can always change but while we have already seen next gen games on the Sony console ... HB2 has finally dispelled the fear of how a game could be held back from the little sister (xss) from a graphic and scope point of view ... of course we have seen little of the game but at least from a graphic point of view we understand that the S shouldn't worry anyone

The Nintendo Switch is weaker than the xBox one. The next gen Switch will definitely still be weaker than the Series S. Yet I’ve never seen anyone come here to express concern about Switch holding back the other consoles.

That's not a gaming PC, that's a Samsung fridge.

The most popular GPU on Steam is still the GTX1060. Series S GPU is roughly similar to the 1060, but with a few more bells and whistles like hardware Ray tracing.
Couple that with the fast I/O, more VRAM and a powerful CPU and it’s definitely punching above those chaps running 1060s.

Not to mention the tons of folks running gaming laptops with 1050s and 1050Tis.

What games you're talking about?

I mean most of them are -gasp- multiplats and made with last gen/current gen consoles in mind.

Ubisoft tried to push graphics for their AAA Assassin's Creed series once. On PC Unity looked absolutely amazing. On consoles it was barely a playable game.

Console players wasn't quite happy with a result to say the least, so now Assassin's creed isn't pushing anything, just to make sure that console experience is somewhat acceptable.

For a more fresh example you can look at Cyberpunk and what PS3 version did to both game and the publisher.

I think - with the way the Switch is selling - it would be quite naive to assume the next gen Switch won’t get a ton of ports.

Metro dev made that comment pre-release. Post release, not only have we seen the Series S hold it’s own, but it’s even turned in a creditable performance with the Matrix tech demo. The same tech demo that this most of forum claim is the best, most next-gen thing they’ve seen so far.

If it’s running UE5 without much of an issue, I think it’s safe to say it should last the gen. And just like we’ve seen with the Matrix tech demo and stuff like RE Village, the proper flow will always be to develop on the powerful machines and port down to the Series S.

There’s zero merit to XsS fearmongering. Zero. It’ll definitely provide more challenge to devs to figure out how to downscale to the smaller memory pool…but developer welfare is not what all the concern is about here.
