Buy/Sell Thread 2005 eBay Rate Hike Edition

As you may or may not know, on February 18th, 2005, eBay will be raising their rates. Oh no!

A lot of people I know, myself included, are scurrying to dump as much of their unwanted stuff on eBay A.S.A.P., to take advantage of the soon-to-expire lower rates. I'm sure that a lot of GAFfers are sitting on piles of unwanted gaming effluvia they've been "meaning to sell" for a while - things that might just make some other lucky GAFfer's day!

TO THAT END:

I hereby propose that any GAFfer who's been "meaning to sell" their unwanted stuff for a while get off their duff, list their wares on eBay, then report back to this thread. We can all gasp in horror at what they foolishly bought, what they're foolishly selling, or what they foolishly think someone else might buy. If you're lucky, we might even buy something.

I'll go first!

JackFrost2012's eBay auctions

I've got a lot of Japanese knicknacks, import games, game-related promotional goodies, soundtracks, and RPGs. I've also got a bundle of inexpensive posters up, any one of which would look awesome on your wall. Yes, yours!

Come on, now, don't be shy - you know you want to sell your gaming stuff on eBay! All the cool kids are doing it!

I'll take my chances with the official trade/sell thread!

...then again, that doesn't work either. Shit!

I thought it was only for eBay Store items only... If not, that 8% at the low end is looking mighty steep.

That's what I took from it too. The only real effect I saw for myself was a scaled fee on Buy It Now.

Here's the information on the price hikes -- there are a few changes for most of us, but most of the changes do involve eBay Stores.

We are writing to let you know that effective midnight PST, February 18, 2005 eBay.com and eBay Motors will be making changes to the fee structure.

The fee changes are as follows:

Gallery
Gallery fees will be raised from $0.25 to $0.35 per listing. We will also be increasing the size of the Gallery image on search and listings pages by 56%. This will make it easier for buyers to see details of the item before clicking into the listing.

Buy It Now
Buy It Now fees will no longer be charged at a flat rate, and will instead be determined based on the Buy It Now price. Fees will be charged as follows:

Buy It Now Price Fee
$0.01 - 9.99 $0.05
$10 - 24.99 $0.10
$25 - 49.99 $0.20
$50+ $0.25

10-Day Duration
The fee for 10-day duration listings will be raised from $0.20 to $0.40 per listing.

eBay Stores
The fee for the Basic eBay Store subscription will be raised from $9.95 to $15.95 per month. The subscription fee for Featured and Anchor Stores will be unchanged.

eBay Store Inventory format listing insertion fees will remain unchanged. The Final Value Fee for Store Inventory items will change as follows:
Closing Price
$0.01 - $25
Old Price- 5.25% of the closing value
New Price - 8% of the closing price

$25.01 - $1,000
Old Price - 5.25% of the initial $25, plus 2.75% of the remaining closing value balance.
New Price - 8% of the initial $25, plus 5% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 - $1000)

Over $1,000
Old Price - 5.25% of the initial $25, plus 2.75% of the next $25.01-$1000, plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value).
New Price - 8% of the initial $25, plus 5% of the next $25.01 - $1000, plus 3% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value).

Store sellers will continue to be eligible to receive 50% off of the Store Inventory listing final value fees for Store Referral credit. Please click here for details.

Insertion and Final Value Fees
The insertion and Final Value Fees will be changing for items listed in certain Business & Industrial categories. More details about the changes for these categories are provided below. The insertion and Final Value Fees in other categories will not be changing.

Business & Industrial Listings in Certain Categories
The Reserve, insertion and Final Value Fees will be changing for select high item price capital equipment categories in Business & Industrial. Please click here to view the capital equipment categories affected by the pricing change.

The fee changes for these capital equipment categories are as follows:

* Reserve fee: Lowered to $5, refundable if the item sells
* Insertion fee: Raised to $20, regardless of starting price
* Final Value Fee: Lowered to a 1% flat fee, with a $250 maximum charge

Additional listing upgrade fees will remain the same as for eBay.com. Pricing for all other Business & Industrial listings outside the specified capital equipment categories will remain the same as for eBay.com.

eBay will also introduce Buyer Protection covering up to $20,000 per item in these capital equipment categories this spring. eBay will offer this Buyer Protection at no cost to the buyer or seller.

The following fee changes will apply to vehicle listings on eBay Motors.

Fee Changes for eBay Motors Vehicles Listings

Reserve
Reserve will be charged a $5 flat fee for all eBay Motors vehicles categories except Pocket Bikes. This fee will still be refundable if your item sells.

10-Day Listings
The fee for 10-day listings will be changed to $8 for all eBay Motors vehicles categories except Pocket Bikes.

Pocket Bikes Category
The insertion fee and Transaction Services Fee will be lowered from $30 to $3 each.
The following fees will remain the same: Reserve ($2 flat fee, refundable if item sells), Gallery (free), Listing Designer ($5) and Highlight ($5). Motors HomePage Featured fee will be lowered to $24.95 and Vehicle Picture Pack fee will be lowered to $1.50. All other fees will be lowered to become the same as those for eBay Motors Parts & Accessories categories.

For more information about these fee changes, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.

Some international eBay sites have also changed their fee structures. To learn more, please check Announcements for the eBay site of interest.

We understand that fees directly impact our members, and take care to ensure that any decisions to change fees are made only after careful consideration of this impact. These changes will help us continue to sustain and develop a thriving global marketplace, while balancing the needs of our buyers and sellers around the world.

Put this in the Sell/Trade thread, might as well put it here too.

I make damn good money on ebay, but the increased fees are pissing me off, and I'm about to say fuck it. I just got a great paying job, and I don't need the ebay money anymore.

Mofo - your ebay listing reminded me of all the games I hoped NOA would release here. There is some serious nostalgia attached to Adventure Island & Bonk.

Giftpia could've been interesting, and I'm sure gamers would have loved Naruto.

Too bad nobody ever took a chance on those here...

OMG I HAVE SUCH LOVELY THINGS FOR SALE!

seriously, there's some neat stuff in there, like a sealed copy of the original (not-greatest hits) printing of xenogears, some famicom games, super famicom games, a signed jade empire standee, some anime, and TFLO postcards! which you can huggle and pretend you're playing the game.

After spending close to 3 hours yesterday gathering, taking pictures and posting my import stuff up on eBay those MFers decided to just cancel them all in one fell swoop. WTF? When did it become agaisnt policy to sell import games? I remember the whole Dreamcast fiasco, but this is just crazy.

Ugh. So damn frustrated!

Buy! Buy! Buy!

Worth checking out in my auctions: lots of import stuff (Silent Hill 3, 4, La Pucelle, Katamari Damacy, .hack v1, some Simple 2000 stuff) but mostly the Suikoden III Limited Edition from konamistyle. I hear there are some Suikoden fans on the forum somewhere or something!

it isn't against policy to sell import games.

however you can't mention "mods" or "modifications" in your auctions. did you?

what i say is "this is the japanese version of the game. you are responsible for knowing how to play this game on your system." or "this game is not compatible with the US <system>." something along that line.

Anyone interested in the Matrix movies? I've got all 4 stand alone Matrix releases, for a total of 6 DVDs. This includes Animatrix, of course.

throwing in my two cents

more promo posters to come :D

Is "rare" an adjective you toss right on into every fucking auction you put up?

Please. Unless you're auctioning off the Star of Africa, you look like a fool peppering every one of your ebay description lines with "rare" this and "rare" that. I could go rummage through a dumpster behind any Babbage's and come up with every one of those "rare" game posters you have obtained.

I have a RARE copy of Namco Museum Volume 3 available, if you're interested.

someone needs a hobby...

I made some good money off eBay last year, but every time they raise fees, it makes me that less likely to sell something there. Their profits are slowing, and they figure it's 'cause they've reached a sort of critical mass (which is probably true to an extent). But I think they'd see much better volume if they didn't touch the fees... I don't personally consider it worth it to Ebay something now unless I feel pretty darn confident I'm going to get at least $20 for it.

Add to the fact that on games, at least, I can get some pretty damn good trade-in credit at Blockbuster, and that's where games I don't want to play any more are ending up.

And your point is...?

I paid $50 for a sushi dinner last week. By your "logic", my sushi dinner was apparently rarer than your Halo poster.

STOP ARGUING SEMANTICS IN THIS THREAD. If you need to endlessly debate the meaning of the word "rare" PM is swell.

Oh, and there will be more updated throughout the week. For example, all* of the Pearl Jam records (the black vinyl kind) are going up as well as almost all of their fan club singles and the first leg of the 2000 U.S. Tour.

*I haven't had the time nor funds to get either Lost Dogs or Rearviewmirror, but I do have the Benaroya LP set and might put it up. Limited to 2000, I have #1955. Yes, the collector in me is fighting hard to keep it.

I've been meaning to sell crap on eBay for years. However, now that I'm trying to scrape together cash for a trip to Japan, the need to sale has finally become accute. Thus my very first batch of eBay sales.

There's not a whole lot there just this moment, but I'll be adding more crap tonight and over the weekend. Woo! Filthy lucre!

that virtual boy is damn tempting.

but i fear if i bring any more electronics into the house there may be issues... haha

I can attest that it was previously owned by a little old lady who only used it to play Wario Land on Sundays. Or something. It really is damn near mint, however, and is worth owning for the amusement value of the instruction manual alone. WARNING: DO NOT TAUNT HAPPY FUN VIRTUAL BOY. And, hey, Jack Bros!

but i fear if i bring any more electronics into the house there may be issues... haha

Normally I'd empathize with you, as my accumulated stuff threatens to fall over and bury me alive. However, in this case you're considering giving me money, so I can only say that you'd be frantically diving for the bid button if you were truly hardcore.

I can't say I'm interested in the products so far (or that I'd have the money to buy it), but Fnordchan get's a big thumb up for painting a very Genshiken picture of desperation. :)

In the interests of accuracy, that should be "Photoshoping Genshiken fan-art for his own nefarious ends". ^_^;;

At any rate, last night was my first go at doing battle with selling stuff on eBay and I didn't get very much up before deciding, "Oh, to hell with it, I'm going to bed". Y'all check back tomorrow and this weekend, at which point more wonderful items will appear and beckon to you. Anyone interested in a ton of Tandy Color Computer stuff?

Anyone? Bueller?
