I have a question for anyone able to answer.
Does anybody have experience shipping smartphones/tablets between the U.S. and Canada. Specifically from Canada to the U.S.
I checked Canada Post's site, and it looks like I can't mail a smartphone that way, due to it having a lithium battery.
Last October, a friend of mine from the U.S. tried to ship me a Kindle, but USPS wouldn't do it for the same reason, and he'd have to do it via UPS or FEDEx, which would have cost quite a bit.

So my question being, what is the best way, and most affordable, to ship a smartphone to the U.S.?

I checked Canada Post's site, and it looks like I can't mail a smartphone that way, due to it having a lithium battery.

This is crap on their part, the regulations seem to say its okay due to the minimal amount of lithium used and the safety features. But none of that is going to make it through the average staffer. (I don't know why CP is being a dick about this; USPS specifically updated their regulations to say this sort of thing was okay.)

Doing a quick google search, labelling it as "Electronic Instrument" seems like a fair bet. If they get out of you that it's a phone just say the battery is removed, and it's not an iPhone (and obviously prepack). They're not amending the package. I guess there's a chance it could be sent back but the byzantine regulations seem to say that lithium batteries are exempt if they're particularly small or backed up by an equally bizarre list of safety features.
