Going to be a tough sell.

No One Lives Forever 1 and 2 boxed. Dicks are like new. $35
Agreed. Not cool. If you have a problem with a price someone is asking for, keep it to yourself or PM if it really bothers you for some insane reason.

There is nothing wrong with informing people of a better deal. This thread isn't just to benefit sellers.
I see both sides though. If i was about to get bilked on something, I'd want to know too.
Also, some sellers genuinely don't know about sales going on for the same item.
If I see a price here where I know something is readily available new for substantially less, I'm going to help my fellow GAF members out. No fucks will be given if that bothers you.
I'm glad we have some reasonable members.
I agree. I don't believe you're doing it to be rude, just to let everyone know that the game is on sale. I'm sure the person with the listing didn't know of the sale.
Exactly. It's not like this thread doesn't have a long history of people trying to flip Humble Bundle games and such.
It's good to know for both sides that there's a deal going on somewhere; we all want to save money, and for someone selling it's good to know why it might be a bad time to try to sell something. Wouldn't you want to know why nobody is biting on what you think is a good offer?
Staying quiet about deals in a thread like this only benefits scammers.
Plus in some cases, such as mine, my local Best Buy is out of them and the website doesn't have any in stock, so $25 isn't bad at all (though I don't want FE). It doesn't necessarily make it impossible to sell.Exactly. I'm helping the seller realize they may be overpricing given the current market, and buyers know they can get the item cheaper at a local retailer. What's the problem?
It's one thing to say "your shit is priced too high" but it's another to show an alternative. I think it should be allowed, politely. We look out for each other. That's what communities do.

3. No need to whine
Everyone involved is just either looking to buy, sell, or trade something. If someone wants a certain amount of money for something, whether it is worth that amount of money will be determined by the people willing to pay for it. There's no need to guilt people for selling things they got for free, or making a big fuss out of perceived overcharging. It's a free market.

I have an extra Hearthstone beta key for sale. Is $10 fair?
That may be the case, but this is supposed to be a community of gamers looking out for one another. Go and screw someone else over on another site. If you are here complaining about "We can overcharge because the rules say we can" then your just fooling yourself, you know damn right that it's wrong. You go on eBay and people sell $10 PSN/eShop cards for $15/$20, yet here, we have some good people who go out of their way to get the cards AND sell them at face value just to help others out.
Bottom line, you shouldn't be here trying to screw people over knowingly, go to eBay where they can take their time going over your ad and pricing it against other ads/sites. That is THEIR fault their for paying however much for an item versus here on GAF where we hold it to the seller that they aren't screwing us over, much like when we do business with them and they're not GOLD status or something, we hope that they have good intentions. Obviously if the person charges a few bucks more, no problem, but to charge $10+ while knowing that it's on sale elsewhere they can easily get it, just wrong.
its not like the MSRP dropped to $20 or something. its one sale from one retailer and it's been hit or miss whether or not people have been able to get one. theres a guy on this very page asking for someone to ship him one to canada.
i see nothing wrong with alerting people to deals in this thread but to imply someone trying to rip someone off by selling a $40 game for $25 sealed is a little unfair

I paid $32 from Newegg the last time this was on sale. Yes that BestBuy sale prompted me to now sell it as I have not yet opened and I know Ebay would be flooded but I still put it up for less than I originally paid a few months ago. Moreover, I put it up for a price close to what BestBuy was offering weighing in shipping and potential PayPal fees. Regardless I would have made basically $1 profit, yet still less than I originally paid. Not much at all. Also when I was ordering Dead Pool and Metal Gear Rising it was out of stock nearly everywhere and it could not be shipped so I figured my price was fair to fellow Gaffers.

I paid more than I'm selling it for. And it is very relevant as you are making this out to be like I'm ripping people off and making some obscene amount of money. I have sold to over 40 dudes in these threads. I don't rip people off.And I didn't do any of the things listed in those rules. Didn't guilt or make a big fuss. Merely informed.
So read the rules yourself before calling out crap. Thanks.
And that's fine. But me informing potential buyers of the sale is also fine. Also what you paid ins't relevant to the discussion.
This.
Nobody is implying that, but to imply that I've broken some rule or code by letting people know about the current Besy Buy price is equally absurd.

This isn't a deals thread. It's a BST thread between users. If that guy has his reasons for selling the game for his asking price, so be it. There is absolutely no reason to quote him with a better price, saying in effect "Good luck...". It's a dick move.
You'd like to justify it with saying you're helping other members out, but that's not what you were doing in your response to the seller.

EDIT: And for the people giving Petrie crap, maybe it is you who should please stop. He is helping out a fellow GAFfer, why the hell should someone pay for a used game that they can get new for $10 cheaper?
I'm helping out the BUYERS in a buy/sell/trade thread. Users here are looking to buy at the best price. It's no different than pointing out when someone comes in here trying to sell humble bundle keys for $5 each. There's no dick move about it. When I know a better deal is available in any thread on GAF, including this one, I'll let users know. I'm helping the seller be aware he may be overpricing his product and not realize it, and potential buyers know the game is being sold new at their local Best Buy for far less.
Those of you complaining simply want to be able to take advantage of less savvy buyers here, something I have no sympathy for.

People were mad about that because he was taking advantage of a charity. It's no different than pointing out when someone comes in here trying to sell humble bundle keys for $5 each.
That isn't the purpose of the thread, it's a member's marketplace thread. If you'd like a hot deals thread, make one.
If your intention was to help the seller, that could be done with a PM. The guy wasn't trying to rip anyone off. It's his goods, and his price. Bascially you're trying moderate the prices people are selling for, and all it's doing is shitting up the thread. It's not your job to police what people value their goods at.
