This is true and why it's helpful to buy from Amazon or anywhere else with a super generous return policy. I went through five TVs last time I was buying one, and some that were highly recommended online were no good for me, and the one I liked the most would have been considered middling. It's all about what aspects of image quality are important to you. For me, any colour smudging during motion was an immediate no for me, but I didn't particularly care about black levels as long as colours were accurate. This meant an IPS screen was perfect for me, but someone else would have made an entirely different choice. I've been super happy with my TV for years now and glad I went through that process, even though it was exhausting at the time.

Nothing is better than seeing a screen in the context that you're going to use it.

Same, I had an 8500 with an FA01 panel before the 8000 and it was a disaster. Crazy light bleed. I truly believe the AA02 is the panel you want. I also wouldn't be surprised if it has a little better motion too, like the one in the rtings article. I never notice the ghosting people in the AVS thread talk about. I wish someone would review one so we know the numbers.

I've been trying real heard to not fall for the hype but reading all these pro threads and hdr crap on Neogaf got me waffling. Neogaf is a blessing and a curse it seems.

So now I'm looking around for a possible new tv. Can someone who either has any knowledge of these tv give me some input?

Forgot to mention my current Living room tv is Sony XBR65x950B. Great 4 K tv and top of the line in 2014 and 2015 but only model not getting upgraded to hdr from 2015.

It was 55". Honestly, it could have been caused by layed it flat white transporting,. The BB guy said it was fine, and it was a plasma thing that you couldn't lay it flat. Then when I got home I noticed the box said no not lay flat. I didn't take that chance with the 8000.

Read this review for Sony's new flagship/OLED killer attempt. Ridiculous black levels that approacj OLED while still giving yhe brightness advantage. Going forward, you will see this technology bleed down if it means they can avoid investing in expensive OLED for now.

Yes because Sony and Samsung are not in any position like LG to mass manufacture OLED technology and LG is forced to heavily discount their televisions to get them to sell more and allow for more investment back in. The price drop isn't permanent and LG tends to drop them to increase sales. LG is really the only one pushing OLED while Samsung wants to stick with Quantum Dot technology and Sony pushing this new master backlighting system allowing for almost 1900 nits of brightness.

Between the two, it really depends on what you're looking for.

In my dark room I have OLED light set to 25 out of 100 and it's bright enough.

They're absolutely gorgeous sets. I'm just not willing to spend 2K plus until the uncertainty around HDR/DV standards/mastering, etc. are settled.

I came from a VT50 Plasma which I /adored/ and still own and my mission in getting the KS8000 was to get in on the 4K/HDR game at a relatively cheap price while seeing how things panned out in the next year or two. Either with OLED sorting its issues out or another technology coming forth to change the game.

The KS8000 with the recent sale at $1200 perfectly fit the bill for me in that regard.

I ask about the model code, because rtings is calling it the KS8000 on their site, yet their UK links to Amazon show it as the KS7000, so I want to make sure I'm looking at the correct review and settings on there as it claims the latency with HDR on is low.

Seriously, why the fuck are the model codes different for different countries, makes no logical sense.

Again, apologies for asking, I just dont want to fork out £999 and learn I've bought a TV that doesnt do everything I want it to do.

At this point, I've been going back and forth between a 55ks8000 (with a tabletop mount, since the legs are placed too wide for my stand) or a 55ks9000. If that firmware update improves HDR input lag on LG OLED sets, I might just say screw it and go for an LG B6. It looks like a beautiful set.

The funniest part is, the lag on my 55LM8600 is probably just as bad even in Game mode, and I don't really notice a problem, yet here I am all concerned about it.

I personally like the XBR tvs. Have had several over the years and they never failed me and they usually are among the best in input lag. But I bought an xbr65x950b in 2014, which they carried over into 2015 and it's the only tv they are not upgrading to hdr so I am really bitter about their lack of support for their Flagship model. Really leaning towards picking up the LG e6p but the input lag is subpar.

I've got the 55" and went to test out TLoU the other day and confirmed via the remote that HDR was being received. I then went to turn on game mode, got the indication on the TV that it had been turned on and then looked in the remote and was apparently still receiving an HDR signal. I could have sworn that I read game mode disables HDR on those sets... or was it just for the Xbox One S?

No idea what's what, so if anyone else does please enlighten me.

CES happens in January and that is where we hear a lot about next years line of high end TV's. I'm hoping to be able to wait into the first half of next year and either splurge and by whatever is top of the line and great for gaming or perhaps jump on one of LG or Sony's current top of the line TVs which would hopefully have serious price cuts with the new TV sets coming out.

Yep. That's pretty damned bad. My TV looks nothing like that. There's certainly blooming when white lettings pops up on a full black screen but a black screen is pretty damned black on my KS8000.

The only TV I can see that is actually 4K HDR being sold at a reasonable price in Argentina is the LG UF7700. Any thoughts about this one? If it's actually good, I could see myself switching to it. Not-so-reasonable is the Samsung JS7200, but if it's massively better (and it's 49in for the LG vs. 55in for the Samsung), I'd consider saving up and getting the Samsung.

Yes, if you don't have game mode on when playing HDR, your input lag will be over 150ms ms about 65ms with Gaming Low Latency on.

It is the curved panel. I would not expect the same from the regular version. There is some cloudiness and bleeding issues. You see it in the curved 8500 version as well.

Mine is the 55" version. I will say, I had half a day with it until I finally watched my first UHD blu ray, Sicario. Throughout the whole film the left hand side of the letterbox was lit up like a christmas tree. Its infuriating, because the TV is fast, responsive, amazing with my PS4 and even great with SD content. The UHD movie was mind blowing, cliche but it was like I was there in the scenes watching in person. But as amazing as the TV is, the edge lighting is a killer on my set. I cant pay the money that this TV cost and settle with that, it drove me mad when watching Sicario.

I got mine from a big retailer in the UK. Major regret, hadn't ordered anything from them (Currys) since the Xbox 360 on its launch. They are a nightmare for dealing with in regards to any after sales problems. I have made my mind up with the Panasonic 902b, I'll have more input lag than the Samsung, but the back lighting on the TV should be a lot lot better.

I wish you the best of luck with your set. It can go from exciting to hard work real fast and I do think its a lottery with the quality of certain sets.

question for those that are tech geniuses. Is there any difference in IQ from a curved or flat? also pros and cons? I just got the curved cause it all they had in stock.

Sure. We still have things like HDMI 2.1 and dynamic HDR metadata coming down the pike along with the general improvements we're going to see with these sets in the next year or two which was my driving point. I wanted to keep my own entry cost low as those things play out. Don't get me wrong, I seriously considered spending the money upfront for an OLED. For once in my life, I decided to be patient.

Give the flat version a go. Like I said, the curved I had was like yours, the flat version I have now has no clouding what so ever.

Pardon my naivety, but do all OLED's have Auto Brightness Limiters? I'm seeing it in a video I use my TV as a computer monitor, and found I couldn't cope with that issue in the past. Every time something with a white (or otherwise bright) background would come up, I would cringe. I ended up returning an ST50 because of it, though it was good otherwise. It was weird because people on forums sang constant praises for that set, which I get, but it's like they denied ABL is even a thing...meanwhile, I'm watching a hockey game and they're skating on gray ice and nothing could be done about it.

Curved are supposed to solve the issue of viewing angles and color washout, however, they suffer from worse backlighting, light bleeding, cloudiness. I have yet to see a curved panel that matches the flat panel of the same model. I think the inherent curve itself affects it. OLED curved because of the nature of the technology does not suffer like LCD panels do.

Surprisingly, rtings curved 8500 was pretty much perfect, so I guess they are out there.
