I think its interesting to see Vonderhaar basically go quiet on BO3 in his twitter. I imagine many of the folks closer to the ground like him are not happy about the actions of their corporate puppeteers and David muting BO3 from his 1.1M followers for long periods of time, essentially starting back when weapons were first gated, is an interesting commentary; albeit a silent one.

It really is unfortunate that their number one voice to the community is either being muzzled from communicating his thoughts (understandable as that may be) or even more unfortunate that he is so disappointed in the direction BO3 has taken that he has effectively stepped down as the community connection.

Ultimately, I feel like the whole team at Treyarch has just gone silent. The only "news" or updates from them are announcing 2x XP weekends and occasionally putting out patch notes. How they have been leashed to the extent that no one can seem to discuss the direction, both of the recent past and looking to the future is saddening. Letting fans know that you hear them and at least have some sort of two way dialogue is the absolute least you can do. Instead, we've got fans stuck in an echo chamber who have major issues with the game systems, and yet we sit on the inside of a one way glass mirror in an experiment lab. We know they are watching us. We know they hear us bitching and yet there is no communication from the other side. The sad thing is, I know that we have supporters in house at Treyarch, but these guys are being told to get on the train or prep their resume. What a shitty work environment that must be...

It's disgusting and makes me not want to support the games moving forward, despite how much I've historically enjoyed the franchise.

Don't be surprised if you see him or other talent leave Treyarch

Activision better hope that whatever this is is received well because if it even smells like a ripoff they will get eaten alive right now.

Welp. All there was in the envelope was a invitation to COD XP 2016. IW MP, MWR MP, and BO3 DLC 4 will be there, event is in September.

So I guess there will not be a beta this summer for IW (unless they do one late in September which wont leave much time to fix anything if there are major issues) then.

DLC 4 is coming in September???? Have DLC always been this far apart? That's 2 months after DLC 3. Assuming it releases this month.

Jesus. BOIII DLC is going to come out late September for PS4 players?

Like damn. We're getting it in October it seems. That's late.

It's unbelievable. 30 days out from the IW and here you go Xbox players, hope you can find some matches... Unreal.

Also, Vonderhaar's twitter is beginning to get salty. I love it.

Oh man these are great.

I wonder why Vonderhaar isn't going? Maybe by that time the production of BOIII's content will be done?

Also, the bribe drops are ok. At least I don't think I'm missing much that I couldn't get from the rare supply drops.

Can anyone describe the main differences between the Treyarch engine and the Infinity Ward engine? Today someone said the IW trailer is obviously using the IW engine, but with the thrusters from bo3. So how will that feel different than bo3? It's been a while for me on the IW side.

This is mostly speculation, but after CoD4: Modern Warfare, Treyarch only ever received CoD4: MW's IW3 engine for use in their games. They have been using that engine version and adding to it since. So the engine used in MW2 is the updated version of the IW3 engine, IW4. However, for Black Ops 1, Treyarch never received the IW4 engine version since West/Zampella era Infinity Ward never shared their tech after CoD4: MW. They had to continue iterating on IW3 on their own.

The engines used by the games go something like this:

CoD4: MW - IW3
CoD: WaW - IW3
CoD: MW2 - IW4
CoD: BO - updated IW3 (IW 3.5)
CoD: MW3 - "MW3 engine" (IW5)
CoD: BO2 - "Black Ops 2 engine"
CoD: Ghosts - IW6
CoD: BO3 - 'Heavily modified Black Ops 2 engine'

The biggest difference comes down to how the devs tailor the engine for what they need in their games. For example, Treyarch tends to do fire better in their games since they use flamethrowers of some sort in their games, while the other devs don't necessarily focus on how their fire looks. This is just one simple example.

There are also probably other differences that are mostly backend such as how they handle sound, animations, etc. I feel It's really difficult to point that stuff out though without being a programmer on the engine.

Thanks. Assuming IW is an update of iw6, how did ghosts feel in comparison to bo3? Like the movement and shooting? Did it feel tighter, looser, or otherwise different? I never played ghosts.

Damn last night was rough on a team on hunted safeguard who were shit, enemy team were most high level prestige masters all with dark matter and camping every spot to get there robot to the base so we were basically spawn trapped and getting sniped on spawn.

Noped right out of there as I couldn't take it any more. The guy top on their team and about 4 others all had 0 escort time.

Consider Ghosts, for all intents and purposes, as Modern Warfare 4. In other words, a continuation of the movement and aiming of Modern Warfare 3. Fun fact, Ghosts was going to be called Modern Warfare 4 but since the story, characters, and setting were completely different, they decided to rename it.

Ghosts was the first game to add the new mantling system seen in AW and BO3 as well as the slide, although the slide is nowhere near as fast as it is in AW or BO3. Ghosts also added a contextual lean/peek system similar to games like Crysis 2 where if you move near a piece of cover or other object and aim down sights, your character would automatically lean around it to aim, but without fully exposing their body. This feature was taken out in AW and BO3 presumably since it didn't fit with the style and speeds of the games.

Seems like that might've been a good idea for Black Ops 3. Then WaW-Black Ops 2 could have been the Black Ops trilogy without this one making things confusing. Though I would say that, for all intents and purposes, those three still do form the true Black Ops trilogy.

Agreed. BOIII makes one off-hand remark that links it to BOII but that's it. The quality pales in comparison to the rest of those games as well when it comes to the campaign. Plus, with the movement being so different in mulitplayer and such I agree that they should've named it something else that didn't tarnish the Black Ops name.

Hey, remember Menendez?

Also that random Nova 6 cameo was stupid as fuck

Ah yes, I almost forgot about that.

It made no sense.

Like everything else in the game.

Which is sad, because I think everyone saw
the Evil A.I. twist
coming from a mile away, but even that couldn't be made interesting. Fail Treyarch. FAIL.

Well I didn't though because that seemed to be just dumb to try and execute. I was hoping it would just end with Taylor because I wanted it to be over quickly. Black Ops 3's campaign is such a massive disappointment to me especially since BO2 was my favorite in the series as well as Menendez being a good villain.

My biggest issue with BO3's campaign is the utterly awful performance, at least on console. The framerate consistently hits the 40s for extended periods of times, which I consider a sin for a COD game. I get they were trying to be somewhat more ambitious with the co-op level designs, but it should not have come at such a cost to the performance of the game in my opinion.

Kudos to the MP team for making sure the MP was a consistent 60fps.

25 cryptokeys though which I think is a bit steep, I'm one of those who likes calling cards but at 25 keys asking price I rather save up for a rare supply drop as I want weapons and armour drops more.

im not spending my crypto keys right now. up to about 1100 i think

Yep. I'm holding them as well. Waiting on new weapons and eventually there will have to be a cryptokey weapon bribe. Holding until then. Only up to ~600 right now. Also holding my weapon bribe and 10 rares from the 75 win challenge.

I always felt IW's MW engine was superior to what Treyarch did with it and the BO engine. It just felt and looked more complete. Animations, graphic effects, audio quality. Even going back to COD4 you can tell they really worked on that engine.

Don't know what happened with Ghost but it really dropped in quality.

Most of the people involved with making the engine and alot of other top tier people left when the lawsuit happened IIRC. They left in the middle of making MW3 and were not there at all for Ghosts.

The Engine used for AW was the most impressive to me so far. It really looked nextgen etc.

Black Ops 3 looked really bad after AW

Really?

I find AW to be really ugly, but I've always preferred the way the Treyarch games look compared to the IW games, and then Sledgehammer too.

I think Ghosts is good for what it was. Even Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3 took things from Ghosts, such as some animations, mechanics such as the slide, etc.

Ghosts was obviously a cross-gen game, a game built for 360/PS3 then ported up for PS4/X1. IW had at most 6-8 months to get a competent next-gen port since every third party dev was just getting the PS4/X1 dev kits at that time. Those ports had framerate issues and didn't look that much better than their last-gen counterparts, in stark contrast to the version differences with AW and BO3. Ghosts on 360 was pretty much on par with previous COD games on 360, no framerate or screen tearing issues on that version.

Even Respawn's Titanfall on X1 had more issues, such as framerate and screen tearing.

Both IW and Respawn did not have their best foot forward on next-gen, now that they both had more time to build their games, I expect better from them.

I think Black Ops 3 looks pretty good, especially in multiplayer and zombies. Has some really nice materials.

For whatever reason the zombie cutscenes and character models look miles better than the ones in the campaign itself.

Like, how did that happen?

It's possible since they already had the Origins models that they might have just touched up and improved the detail a bit

Maybe but even then, the cutscenes for zombies in general look great. Shadows, Giant, and even ZNS.

Too bad we couldn't get an in-engine cutscene for DE. Lol but even then, the style is appropriately pulpy for fhat silliness.

Just checking in seeing a twitter post yesterday. Calling Card bribes? You kidding me? Everyone wants the weapons first and foremost, but I doubt they'll ever have the Weapon Bribes up for purchase with cryptokeys.

If they do they'll probably make them really expensive to get with cryptokeys. Halo 5 will do that for limited packs, so many credits worth that it's easier to just buy.

Which would suck.
