Call of Duty: Black Ops III |OT| No Content For Old Gen

The only weapons I got were the butterfly knife, the fire axe, and the MP40.

First two were the free weapons I got from the season pass + 75 wins. MP40 from a 30 key crate.

Yeah, baby. Zetsobu No Shima Easter Egg is done. Now I can rest easy until DLC3.

I wish I could say the same. I've only ever gotten the weapons from the Rares, including the Skull Splitter.

Well for some reason I keep getting mostly commons from Rares and a taunt. Been complete junk for me lately

Man. I hope they continue to add more weapons that aren't melee.

More gun diversity is fun, but I feel the melee stuff outnumbers the guns in the BM at the moment.

Only have the Razorback left for Dark Matter. I did the grind on the 'less fun' weapons and saved the Razorback and Dingo for last. Knife surprisingly wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I cleaned that up in FFA. Snipers weren't bad on the right maps. For most submachine guns, I found an incredibly easy strategy for headshots was rapid fire, extended mags and gung ho in hardcore FFA. I'd never aim down the sites, but instead just sprint and essentially turn them into long range shotguns. Generally aiming for the head was a lot easier and took a lot of the frustration out of it. I'd get 6 or so headshots per match that way.

I've actually saved all my cryptokeys and my chest/bribe cards from the 75 wins. I'm sitting on a little over 500 keys right now. I'm anticipating a weapon bribe weekend (much like they did for gestures) for the cryptokeys and I'm waiting for the next set of weapons to drop before I spend any. I figured as long as I am grinding dark matter, why unlock anything else right now.

As mentioned by Nabs, play FFA and just get in the top three and it counts as a win. If you're halfway decent, you'll have a chance of at least being in 3rd place.

hardcore search and destroy, play it til you're on a good team and they'll rack up the wins for you. Helps if you add to the team with some smart play (stay back, use thermal sights etc)/

Damn its sad to see this thread die down. I wonder why this COD feels like it lacks the legs from the past regulars? Its tough to put a finger on it, but I feel it as well.

I want to attribute it to the poor taste that the cryptokey/gated weapons left in my mouth, but I'm not so sure that is what it is for me. The maps are good, but honestly I don't feel like there is a real classic among them (Crash, Firing Range, Overgrown, Toujane etc). The weapons are for the most part good, but again for me lack the standouts from the past (Galil, M14, UMP, Stakeout).

Part of me feels like the game was over designed. Too much weapon tweeking/balancing on what seems like a monthly basis. I think the three lane concept has worn a tad thin as well. While I absolutely hated the swiss cheese feel in many of MW3 and AW maps, Blops seems so focused on the three lane concept that all of the maps 'feel' similar. Perhaps I'm just being nostalgic, but in the past MW, MW2, WAW BO1 and 2, all had maps that were very distinct not only in style but layout. I think the closest Blops 3 gets is with infection.

Maybe its just COD fatigue...

I'm pretty sure the Advanced Warfare OT died faster than this one.

But I understand what your saying. I bought BO3 for Christmas just for a distraction until the summer but I ended up getting burned out with it within two months. Haven't played a match for a month now.

Daily/Weekly Contracts coming soon though. Should keep people coming back all the time like Bounties & Xur did for Destiny. Also DLC 3 news must be around the corner, plus more IW & Modern Warfare Remastered gameplay at E3. Good times ahead.

So I went ahead and gave these suggestions a try. So far, barely getting into 3rd place in FFA seems to be my best bet.

Hardcore S&D is fun, though. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've touched the gamemode again since World at War.

I asked quite a few people I know who stopped playing on XB1. Here are the reasons I got from them:

Maps are not very interesting for the most part
They dislike the movement system (most hated AW's system more, but they prefer old school COD movement)
No stand out guns that they like
They dislike the specialists in general
DLC maps have been a disappointment
gating weapons behind the cryptokey system made it pay to win to get the weapons mostly and turned them off

Also, the game does not use xbox party system well. Often things like this happen that just dont happen with other games now:

1. In game system that pulls data and shows people playing does not work
2. When in a xb live party, if you start playing black ops 3 you lose the ability to invite people to the game or even invite party to game (restarting the game will sometimes work, but if you swap to any other game no such issues arise) leading to inability to play together
3. When you do manage to team together in a party, the game will often spilt the group into multiple teams in a game or will put 2 members in one game and the rest in another game completely. Or puts 1-3 people into a game and kicks the rest since those 1-3 fill the lobby up.

The party stuff really upset alot of people who have told me they wont buy another COD game if the developers cant even be bothered to fix the broken mess in this game while instead focusing on selling weapons behind microtransactions.

Plenty of them are pre-ordering the new battlefield and ignoring the new COD even with the remaster since, well, they cannot get the remaster separately.

The party issue is huge issue and it's across all 3 game modes. I really wish they went towards fixing that instead of the weapon balancing they keep doing.

The whole Cryptokeys and COD points were always coming, though, I'm afraid. Which really sucks because COD points weren't a thing in the beginning but Cryptokeys were and anyone who's played a mobile game knew where that was headed. :( And locking guns behind that--or anything really--sucks. I like to earn my gear not gamble it--which is what that system and others like really are about.

Specialists are fine, though. I think the addition of different abilities shake things up a bit and having some personality in the multiplayer doesn't hurt.

And man, I can speak for the movement system. I grew to dislike AW's and BOIII really brings it down several notches. Battlefield 1 has really grabbed me by the balls, considering I've always wanted to see WWI and just more historical shooters in general.

As for AW, I'm still going for it, not just for the COD4 remaster (though that's a huge plus of couse), but after Ghosts and MW3, I'm not expecting much.

Count me in as one of these people. Truth is my interest in the game plummeted after getting 75 wins and opening a weapons chest and getting a wrench. At that point I realized that ill never get a weapon I want and it's just completely disheartening playing for hours and building up keys just to get non stop taunts and decals.

The thing is this is the best COD game since Black ops 2. Problem is there isn't much left for me to do. I reached master prestige (there is no way in hell I'd ever make it to level 1000) the chests are are complete and utter shit.

Yes I am trying for DM camo (because I have OCD and I get stressed out "wasting time" using weapons I already have gold/diamond for) so I am forced to run around with pistols and sniper rifles which isn't fun at all.

I used to play the game for a little while each night. Now I may play it once or twice a week.

The interesting thing is that this is the first cod I've hit master prestige. But that is not entirely a complement. The reason I did that was because they did not allow you to unlock everything at the end of a prestige but instead used the permanent unlocks as some sort of extended carrot on a stick.

Also, the completion of challenges would feel like a 'waste' if it wasn't contributing to more levels, so there was constantly a leveling churn. Unlike past cod's where I might prestige a handful of times to get an icon I like and then treat challenges as just a fun aside, the meta game OCD for a challenge grind, combined with dark matter, 'made' me play in ways, in game modes and with weapons that as you said were just not fun. But then you feel like you're wasting gametime if you arent contributing toward those long goals.

Then, the rate of cryptokey earns combined with the absolute trash that fills them makes it feel like you are truly wasting your time just playing.

I know exactly what you are describing...

Sucks that they are more focused on making more money than fixing the problems with their game's base functionality. Really has hurt the COD brand based on anecdotal findings.

Of course, as we know, for every person who leaves, the next COD gets 1 or 2 new kids who convince their parents/grandparents to get them the game and the DLC content and later on gift cards to put in for COD points.

The DLC maps have all been shit, i hate every single one

I don't think they're shit, but nothing stands out.

I think the second group has been much better than the first was, but there's no map I really look forward to seeing, and I almost always vote for one of the original maps if I have the option.

Now The Giant can be bought without the Season Pass for $5.99.

If you don't own it, I'd recommend it. Shadows of Evil is way too difficult for starting players while Giant is perfect for that.

I am at this point: I don't enjoy playing the game using snipers and pistols. I cannot enjoy the game using AR, SMG or LMG because when I use them all I can think about is how I should be using this time to run around and get head shots with the pistols.

My OCD to unlock everything has pretty much killed the enjoyment of this game for me.

I stopped playing when Doom came out, and I took about a week to complete the campaign. Then Overwatch came out and I've been playing that every night. I'm already getting bored with Overwatch, so I came back to check this thread and see if there have been any updates in the last couple of weeks. The lack of real unlocks in Overwatch made it so that there isn't anything to work towards. It's fun for a little while but I will be going back to COD for now.

Christ, got a freaking wrench as a reward from the 75 wins contract. Dafuq man, out of all the melee weapons... at least give me a baseball bat or the kick ass Fury's Song.
Wanted the FFAR or NX ShadowClaw honestely :/

Feels good to be back in COD after a few weeks off playing Doom and Overwatch. There's just a certain feeling of precision in COD that is sorely lacking in Overwatch, even with their hitscan weapons. Hard to put a finger on it but COD is just much more satisfying.

CoD's aiming is better tuned than most FPSes, especially Overwatch.

I can't comment much on the DLC maps because I don't ever see them in regular rotation besides that Pirate ship one.
The Eclipse playlist is all I play these days. Really liking the DLC 2 maps more than most of the core game maps, especially Spire. Rift is basically the new Combine as well. Love Safeguard on that one.

Given how close we are to E3, Daily & Weekly Contracts must be just around the corner. If they give bonus Cryptokeys every day for just playing the game, my time spent playing is about to go up dramatically. Destiny kept me on the hook every day with Bounties and it somehow never got old. Fingers crossed for news in the next few days.

Also agree about Overwatch not having the same satisfying feel as COD. I've probably put a dozen hours into Overwatch now and there's just nothing to play for. Zero progression system, loot crates filled with nothing of value to me (2-3 Sprays, a voice line, and MAYBE a color-swapped skin?) and the currency is way too much of a crapshoot to get, since you can't even earn it outside of loot crates, as far as I can tell.

Just imagine if the only way you got Cryptokeys in COD was through Supply Drops, and you only got one Supply Drop at a time by leveling up. The community would lose its mind. That's what Overwatch does, except the stuff you get is largely useless. The game is super fun, but there's nothing to keep me coming back. BO3 has that in spades. I've been playing since launch and still have 100+ challenges left and a ton of camos to earn, plus all the Black Market stuff that I enjoy unlocking, like the BO1 and World at War calling cards. Probably not going for Dark Matter but I'm still having a blast.

I too am looking forward to the contracts but I'm not letting myself get hyped as I fear they'll potentially be really frustrating challenges. As for OW and its "loot system", I concur that it lacks a bit but I find myself playing OW purely because Blizzard managed to hit a weird spot in the gameplay where a lot of games ( atleast the ones I've played ) end up in a really intense finish that literally has put me on the edge of my seat and there hasn't been another shooter that has done that to me.

I think Blizzard should ( and tbh they probably will ) add daily quests for overwatch. While OW is a slightly different beast, almost all modern Blizzard games have them in some form and they could provide some extra rewards like a bit of experience or even a consumable experience booster like the ones in battlefield 4 and ofcourse some currency or even a loot box or 2.

Thats what I'd ideally like to see in Blops 3's contracts. The weekly could be a weapon or skin token which is earned by killing X amount of players and the daily could be a rare supply drop or maybe 5 common supply drops. I dunno, I'm just musing now really. Sorry for a bit of off topic OW babble, I shall bugger off back to that thread.

I think that Remaster wont end up that well like people are hoping for...

Dark matter and level 100 reached... I think I'm done until dlc 3 or contracts. Playing on Xbox so dlc is going to be a ways out.

Surprised they haven't flipped infection on its side yet so we can play in Carentan... Also, half way through the main life span of this game and no new specialists? That seemed to me to be an obvious dlc plug in...

Something is badly wrong with it. No decent new dlc, boring melee weapons dont count for me..whenever I get one its like oh great - another 200 kills then bloodthirsty to unlock. No sign of the FFAR for me yet, no contracts and its been a month now since that was introduced, no new specialist.

Its june! Your game is dying out, people are off playing overwatch, where is the temptation to come back? Dont tell me its a time factor, this shit should have been sorted, they had 3 years to have it all ready. Love the game but structurally its a mess. I want the famas, contracts, a specialist, some decent maps, they've lost the plot. I'm sorry but a teeny tiny world at war logo by my name is really no incentive at all when there are hundreds of other games out there calling my name like doom,

Sort it out treyarch, contracts please, new specialist please, and some interesting DLC.

I think the backlash stunned them, the specialist was probably going to be in supply drops, and they had to change that due to how it exploded.

They then came up with contracts and that's taking time to implement.

I think the backlash fucked it all up to be honest and flipped it on its head, they've been playing catch up ever since. The fact they can't tell us when contracts are coming shows it wasn't planned.

It's their way of trying to keep the masses from abandoning COD completely. That backlash was massive, kept growing bigger, and even the big YouTubers had to talk about it even when some of them clearly didn't want to.

But I think you are right in that they thought they could just push past complaints on the supply drops once they added the weapons to them, but instead people got more upset and said enough is enough. Then when the specialist got 'leaked' as being in supply drops as well that was all the fuel people needed to explode on them.

Does anyone follow competitive?

100 Thieves has to be the most pathetic team of all time.

Is that nadeshot's new thing? What happened?

Overwatch basically killed BLOPS 3 for me, while I used to play 5-10 hours a week and slowly grind out new levels, I have played a grand total of 15 minutes since OW launched. They are totally different game styles and I enjoyed going back to just TDM and killing stuff , but man there is just something charming about Overwatch that is missing in call of duty.

I guess in a month or two we'll see how it shakes out, the bigger twitch streamers I follow seem to be all sticking with black ops.

Yeah that's Nadeshots team. They're winless in Uplink game modes, and have one win in CTF.

They replaced two guys two-three weeks ago to get better at those game modes but have just gotten worse at SnD.

Tonight they led by 6 points in an Uplink game heading into the second half then got outscored 14-0 in that half to lose, then lost big time in CTF.

I hate to complain (but I will anyway) but I got another weapon in a chest that I will never ever use. I want the crossbow, FAMAS or the Marshall and here is what I have acquired so far:

Season pass/75 wins.
Sniper (ill never use it)
Wrench (ill never use it)

Rare chests
Carver (ill never use this)
Crowbar (Ill never use this)
Brass knuckles (Ill never use this)

I think its interesting to see Vonderhaar basically go quiet on BO3 in his twitter. I imagine many of the folks closer to the ground like him are not happy about the actions of their corporate puppeteers and David muting BO3 from his 1.1M followers for long periods of time, essentially starting back when weapons were first gated, is an interesting commentary; albeit a silent one.

It really is unfortunate that their number one voice to the community is either being muzzled from communicating his thoughts (understandable as that may be) or even more unfortunate that he is so disappointed in the direction BO3 has taken that he has effectively stepped down as the community connection.

Ultimately, I feel like the whole team at Treyarch has just gone silent. The only "news" or updates from them are announcing 2x XP weekends and occasionally putting out patch notes. How they have been leashed to the extent that no one can seem to discuss the direction, both of the recent past and looking to the future is saddening. Letting fans know that you hear them and at least have some sort of two way dialogue is the absolute least you can do. Instead, we've got fans stuck in an echo chamber who have major issues with the game systems, and yet we sit on the inside of a one way glass mirror in an experiment lab. We know they are watching us. We know they hear us bitching and yet there is no communication from the other side. The sad thing is, I know that we have supporters in house at Treyarch, but these guys are being told to get on the train or prep their resume. What a shitty work environment that must be...

It's disgusting and makes me not want to support the games moving forward, despite how much I've historically enjoyed the franchise.

Yeah, I can only imagine how shit they must feel to have had to ruin, what is in fairness, a pretty solid Call of Duty title with these practices and demands from Activision, and as you say the silence speaks volumes.

It's a real shame.
