Which was the best of the three.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
It's a battle of the three kinda similar'ish games.

I'm kinda tempted to vote for Cronos just out of principle, as the remake culture in survival horror is getting ridiculous. Like, 50% of the "new" stuff is just old games remade for current gen. Not to mention that Dead Space is in my top 5 for the least scary survival horror titles.

But out of these three, still Dead Space.

The Callisto Protocol was god-awful in every aspect apart from its production values.

DS remake felt so dated and basic. It was a reminder why the franchise is dead. Just very unambitious and safe in comparison to resident evil which has stood the test of time. They should've changed the core gameplay a bit to keep things interesting.

Dead Space Remake, and it's not even close. It's one of my favorite horror games of all time. Callisto's combat doomed it from the start, and Cronos was a snorefest that I didn't finish.

Praying for Dead Space 4.

DS remake doesn't bring anything interesting to the table, i'd rather replay the original.

Calisto Protocol was decently entertaining but still mediocre at best.

Didn't play Cronos.

So i won't pick anything

The core gameplay is what makes dead space dead space.

This has to be a joke, and judging by the poll numbers it is. I love Callisto and Cronos but there is tiers to this shit and Dead Space is far and away the better game.

They changed a lot of stuff. The traversal in Zero G sections, secondary fire modes on weapons, removed turret sections, added interconnectivity to ship sections, added plot elements, made wall birthers less annoying, and made final boss fight challenging. It is honestly better than Dead Space 2 in many regards unlike original.

Yes but that's also why dead space is dead. It was always a cult hit and just couldn't reach mainstream like resident evil because the core loop isn't good enough.

And i say this as someone who adores ds2. The series simply failed to evolve and the remake stayed very true to the original.

I've yet to play Kronos but for the other two - CP is mechanically a very different game from what I thought we were getting, but outside of mechanics still 'feels' like I'm playing the same 3rd person story horror everyone's been doing since 2004.
DSR though does nothing to justify its existence, unless the point was to nail the coffin of the franchise and ruin the memories of the original game. So I'd still pick CP over it.

i enjoyed callisto protocol, already played dead space back on the xbox 360 no point in revisiting imo
Oh this is a very different Dead Space from the one you remember though. And in bad ways too - virtually none of it is an improvement.

They changed a lot of stuff.
For the worse.

I did not play Cronos, but I have a hard time seeing how it can be better than Dead Space. Callisto had some good moments, but lets just say I would not go back to replay it anytime soon.

Considering how faithful the remake is, I dont think it was made to "evolve" the series and take it mainstream, it was more of a love letter to fans of the original.

And there's nothing at all wrong with that.

The DS remake did add enough new stuff, IMO. Including a new ending, which basically changes a decent amount of dialogue at and before the ending as well.

It didn't radically change the play style like RE3 to RE4 did, for example, but it was a pretty good remake, imo.

Dead Space - gameplay, monster design
Cronos - atmosphere, plot, lore
Callisto - graphics... (I can't find any more positive aspects)

You should rectify that soon Ski😉
They're different beasts, DS is more grimdark, bloody and macabre while Cronos is more... sci-fi thriller with some body horror thrown in.
If I were to do a Hollywood analogy, DS is The Thing x Event Horizon while Cronos is more like Stranger things x Dark x 12 Monkeys.

As for my opinion :
I'd have to go for Cronos since Callisto was barely a game and DS remake, while good, it was a case of "been there, done that" since I had also replayed the OG via BC on my XSX a few months prior, plus, it added almost nothing new of real importance.

Didn't buy Cronos cause I'm near that end of Callisto and haven't started Dead Space remake. Trying to be disciplined for once. Never played any dead space game yet.

Problem with this thread is people will vote dead space thinking of OG dead space. So of course it would win by a landslide.

The remake though, itself, is not better than Cronos.

GAF will hate but my order is:
Cronos
Callisto
Dead Space Remake

I couldn't even complete the remake. Isaac is too annoying and looks like a bitch compared to OG. Plus, on console it has the worst unfixable crushed blacks even with HDR off.

For the worse.
Not at all. The changes to zero G sections improve immersion as do changes to story. The changes to level design improve progression and backtracking. The changes to secondary fire make weapons other than the plasma cutter useful and expand strategic options. Even the upgrade system is better.

P.S. Having played the original Dead Space recently I really think people are looking at it with rose-tinted glasses.

Dead Space easily BUT i also played and beat the other 2 and Cronos was really good and callisto was only bearable with dismenberment mode active.

Dead Space and its not even a contest.
Cronos was great but combat and weapons were too boring to warrant a second playthrough.
And Callisto...well i mean, its kinda pretty? and the gravity wrist cannon was fun for a bit i guess.

Callisto forever!

Dead woke and big head are not for me
Dead woke? Where's the woke in killing necromorphs? I just got the 100% on Steam and never noticed anything.

Haven't played Cronos yet but will say:

1. Dead Space (got the plat on PS5, 100% Steam, and own 1-3 physical on PS3).
2. Callisto Protocol (don't get the hate- was fantastic. Got the game on PS Plus but paid for the DLC and loved it)
3. Cronos is next on my list.

We need more claustrophobic horror action games.

I'm surprised dead space remake is doing so well, not that there's much competition, but I remember being so excited for it and then playing it and not being as madly into it as I was around the OG's launch.

Haven't played Chronus but Callisto Protocol I actually finished, DS:R I dropped around the end of the first act.

I haven't played Cronos yet and neither Callisto Protocol nor Dead Space Remake till the end.
I've played through the originial Dead Space back then, but i didn't enjoyed the Remake, because of the Checkpoints.
I haven't really enjoyed one of both games.
Callisto was a tiny bit better, but the combat is awful and ruined the game for me.

Haven't played Cronos, but heard good things.

Callisto Protocol just sucked for me, and the core gameplay just wasn't satisfying, and it put too much focus on production values to drive up the experience.

Dead Space Remake was great though, improved some gameplay systems, made the world more contiguous, visuals/audio improvements were great, and the changes they made I didn't like were minor.

I played Dead Space way back in 2008. I never finished it, and I don't need a remake of it.

Callisto Protocol was fun, the graphics were great and I thoroughly enjoyed the story line, because it was perfectly fine like a B-movie.

I haven't finished Chronos yes, but I'm enjoying it. It's very... Polish. The story is weird (I just barely finished the first Dive and got to the Terminal), but it's different and I like it. Also, pet cats for rewards!

So I think I'd say:
Callisto Protocol
Dead Space 2008
Chronos

So far, at least.
