Can we talk about the apparent iCloud break-in?

That too - I should've mentioned backups as well.

It would also mean that it wouldn't matter whether or not they had turned off automatic picture uploads, because it would have nothing to do with that. You could have triple checked to make sure that the pictures weren't uploaded and it wouldn't have made any difference. I'd imagine very few people are going to turn off automatic backup uploads, because that almost defeats the purpose of having it generate the backups in the first place.

Jennifer Lawrence's rep said they'll be taking legal action to any site that posts the pictures. What a horribly naive threat. At least her lawyers will be busy with C&Ds.

This is so sad.

C&D's won't keep them completely off the internet, and they know it, but what it will do is prevent the major sites (TMZ, PerezHilton, stuff like that) from keeping them hosted, so that if you want to find them you're going to have to use Google and worry about what else might be embedded with them. In other words, they know they won't disappear, but it will make them harder to find once this all dies down.

Edit: And I've always thought that if I were a young celebrity and this happened to me, if I thought I could get away with it I'd claim I was underage in the pics. That's the easiest way to get any reputable website to refuse to link to or upload them.

Yeah once it's out there they really can't do anything, C&D will scare bigger websites from posting them but sites were you can post anonymously will be flooded.

But apple on the other hand oh boy do they have a problem now I smell a lawsuit coming their way very soon.

J-Lo looks tremendous though. Sucks to have naked pics of you all over the internet but she looks great and isn't licking balls or getting her face slapped with cock like the other girl

This whole thing makes me so sad and angry, I can't even articulate it. I guess its the fact that female celebrities are targeted, their privacy is invaded in one of the most intimate ways possible, and then the same society that is chomping at the bit to consume the pictures, turns around and slut-shames them for ever taking them.

Apparentely there are videos of her giving BJ's and even anal coming soon. But that's just what I read...

I believe it though.

Will this finally be the thing that gets people to realize that two-factor auth is a must in this day and age? Especially if you are a public figure and/or a company.

Hopefully this will at least raise awareness about the need for increased security in the ways companies handle our personal data.

If I were the celebs, I would be taking legal action against Apple. (Assuming there isn't a clause in their TOS that protects them from these cases...)

This.

Reading about ISIS and the situation in Israel-Gaza makes me feel that way. These are just pics of super attractive women and they won't be affected by it at all. Scarlett, Blake Lively went through it and they are perfectly fine. It's no tragedy IMO.

Unless they're idiots or really not in this for the money (which I highly doubt), any full scale explicit videos (if they even exist, which I doubt) aren't leaking until someone pays up for them. That's the type of thing that is literally just too valuable for someone this sophisticated to give away for free.

Also, I don't really believe their stories about 6 figure offers from websites, because why would the sites pay that much when they know they can post the images as soon as they leak somewhere else, not to mention the whole idea of posting images you know are stolen (usually when major sites post/publish pics/leaks like this, it's because they got them from one of the involved parties, which makes it less legally dubious, at least).

Seriously. The only one I really feel bad for is the one girl licking balls and getting dick-whipped. I hope she's emotionally strong..

Exactly this...yes it's "sad" that things got hacked, but you should be a bit more careful with your private images if a celebrity...at the end of the day their PR will lie about it and people will move on.

As a male who find J-Law absolutely beautiful and amazing I am Happy..

However, I feel terrible that this happened to so many people.

And if there are Underage pics out there of celebrities...That is so so wrong.

You can't possibly know that. Women have killed themselves over things like this and, when you're a celebrity, the backlash is magnified enormously. I'm not saying I think these celebrities will kill themselves, but to suggest that its not a big deal and that they won't be affected by it... that's pretty nuts. I know it probably makes you feel better about looking at the pictures, but this kind of thing would be devastating to a lot of women.

We can feel upset about more than one thing at a time.

Everyone knows if you don't want nudes to get out, you don't take them. This goes double for famous hot girls that people really want to see naked. While it is an invasion of privacy, this also gets all those names in the news and media, gets "oh no you poor thing" support, and stands as record of when they were young and hot and looked good naked. It's a win win, in a lot of ways. It will all blow over in a few days and no one will give a shit and be on to something else. It won't hurt any careers and might in fact help some.

It is an invasion of privacy, but it is just dirty pictures. It isn't people getting their card numbers and bank account numbers stolen like the Target stuff last year.

I'm sure most of those that got their nudes leaked are going through some form of emotional hurt due to humiliation. Because people feel violated when their private things are shown to any creep who wants it. I think feeling sad about people going through probably strongly negative emotions right now is fairly warranted. That this event isn't as bad as the Syrian civil war shouldn't lead to the conclusion that people shouldn't care.

nice victim blaming

I have some nudies in that cloud.
Brace yourselves!

nice victim blaming

In the scheme of things, the victimization is pretty silly. "People saw me naked when I took pictures for someone to see me naked" isn't anywhere near the same level as a physical or sexual assault. The last set of leaks a few months ago, no one seemed to mind when they got to see Scarlett Johansson naked. I don't recall too many people talking about how terrible it was and how bad they felt for her. It's a silly American thing for people to get bent out of shape about seeing other people naked.

A real invasion of privacy isn't nudies that you uploaded to the cloud, but if those people were releasing addresses, family addresses, ssn, bank account numbers. None of this is going to matter in a few days. It will all blow over, because EVERYTHING in US media blows over. Looking hot naked is not going to hurt any of these women.

JLaw is currently America's sweetheart though. I'm sure that's part of it

You're right that it's not the same thing as being physically assaulted, but you're insane if you think being less than physical assault is sufficient to make this OK. Having thousands upon thousands of people see you naked or in sexual positions without your consent, is a big deal to a lot of people. The fact you didn't rip her clothes off in person, doesn't change the fact that this "leak" it outside of these womens control and without their consent. And you have no idea how victimized they feel about it, individually.

The best way to not get into a fiery car crash caused by a drunk driver is to never drive or ride in a car for the rest of your life, guys. You get at least some of that blame for taking that risk if it happens.

saying that people didn't react a certain way in the past so they shouldn't react a certain way now is the dumbest argument of all time.

Neither do you though.

Man, the mental gymnastics required for this line of thinking... It's one thing to pay lip service to the women affected by this while simultaneously masturbating to the pics in the next tab but you're in a whole other league.

Neither do you though.

You're right, I don't. But I'm not looking at the pictures, so I don't have to pretend I know anything solid, to justify my actions. I can tell you though, that a lot of women would find this absolutely devastating. Enough pictures were released, of enough people, that it's likely a few of them feel that same devastation.

If you feel comfortable consuming these photos, knowing that, then go ahead I guess. But pretending this doesn't matter at all? Ugh, that's just making it worse. It's dehumanizing them, on top of everything else. It's pretending they don't have feelings at all, so people can look at these pictures without guilt.

Don't online bank, buy anything online, subscribe to PS+ or XBL, sign up for financial aid, or give out any sort of information online either. Somebody could steal it.

And you'd be asking for it. But it wouldn't matter, because someone, somewhere is going through something worse.

In all those cases you'll be reimbursed by the bank or the credit card company, or even sony.
Not the same thing.

It's really troubling that Apple (and probably Google and MS) have their phones set up in this fashion. Cloud sharing should be opt-in rather than opt-out. I hope they get the shit sued out of them for this.

What a crazy day.

I feel guilty, but I always seek out pictures when shit like this hits. Even when I feel bad I simply can't stop myself. It's like some flaw in my programming I guess.

All I'll say is that Jennifer Lawrence is fine as fuck. Hope Solo also. Good gawd.
