OK.
I think the past several years have been pretty nice by "system war" standards. The PS2 folks have been pretty happy with thier sales and 3rd party dominance, the Xbox by it's Halo and system performance dominance, and the Nintendo fans with the GBA dominance / Nintendo dust (Pikmin, Metroid, Animal Crossing). Each side has come to understand their place in this world and, for the most part, accepted it and been happy.
Now, it seems the inevitable wave of craptastic fanboyism is almost here again. I didn't post here at the beginning of the last generation, but from what I gather, it was pretty bad. However, in the couple of years that I have posted here, this forum has been, IMO, the absolute best forum for intelligent discussion of the industry. As far as games, it's pretty hit and miss, because I've bought ALOT OF CRAP because of these boards, but I've gotten some pretty good gems as well.
However, each day that passes, it gets harder and harder to avoid pretty blatant "fanboyism" that threatens to derail this entire forum. We all know that it can be fun to take pot shots at systems/games and to a certain extent, it's just extending a valid argument to a sometimes ludicrous end, but it's all in good fun. Now we're getting to the point that some posters are actually trolling as some sort of a holy crusade against system <X>.
I just wanted to say that it's been a great couple of years while it lasted, but IMO, it's gonna get REALLL ugly over the next couple of years, with the appropriate trolling peaks of E3, system launches, holidays, etc.
My real question is this? Is it really as bad as I imagine it being, can GAF maintain it's relatively "high quality" of discussion, or has it really been bad all along?
