Can you suggest a dependable surround sound system for around $300?

My current stereo system is going on 15 years old or so now. I've had to replace the CD changer once, the equalizer died a few years ago, and now my receiver is on it's way out. The remote has been dead for years too.

So I'm thinking of financing a low cost home theater system from Best Buy. Pay it off in under six months, screw interest. I saw they had a $200 Sony system in store. I farted around with it, and it was plenty loud, at least what I was comfortable with cranking it up to without being an ass. :p

They also have some Yamaha systems on the website for around $300.

What features should I be keeping an eye out for, and what are reliable brands? I'm not looking to break the bank on this one. I just want something I can watch movies and play games with. I don't entertain many guests, and I'm a po' boy.

Thanks.

Make sure to get one with Pro Logic II. We got an old set and after hearing surround on DVD's it just irritates me knowing what I'm missing in a lot of my games.

I just bought the Sony that was probably the older model of the 200 dollar one you checked out. They were clearing them for 160 a few months ago. I have no complaints. Its loud and has Pro Logic II which is awesome. Playing the volcano Level in Zelda the Wind Waker was amazing.

Its cheap and it gets the job done.
