They need to be the next party to follow the Liberals after they screw up.
I am convinced that this is the end of the NDP party. They had one chance and they blew it. The LPC in 2011 wasn't so bad because they still had a legacy, whereas the NDP were just beginning theres.

To me, this is like finding out that your wife is cheating on you with your best friend on the same day you lost your job and you find out that your mother has a terminal disease.

I'm never putting myself to be in a position where I can feel so emotionally devastated by a political party ever again.

Wow! Congrats Liberals! I did not expect a majority win.

It will be fascinating to see what happens to Harper after this shellacking. I'll be amazed if be lasts beyond tonight.

edit: I had to explain to my parents that the Liberals getting elected, who have almost the same social mores as the Conservatives, is not a sign of the end times.

Well, gut check time for the Right, hopefully with these 4 years they can regroup with some smarter policy for the next one. The leadership race will be key

Trying to get a Spotify victory playlist going.

So far:

Lucky Man - Emerson Lake & Palmer
Song 2 - Blur
Power - Kanye West
Pride (In The Name of Love) - U2

and now I'm just on a U2 kick. Great music to watch these results come into.

The lead party could do whatever the hell it wants, basically

But the big con is if they go crazy there is nothing to keep them in check
I am a fan of the theory that it is far better to have a majority government that is solely responsible for its actions and can be corrected rather than a government full of weak compromise and coalitions where it is not clear who is to blame. Basically, it's better to have decisive mistakes.

So that's what happened... but what exactly occurred for this to transpire? Did he say something crazy or something?

This is more of a protest vote against Harper, and people looked at Trudeau and looked at Mulcair, and Mulcair didn't inspire anyone.

Mulcair may have lost Quebec when he went soft on the Niqab, and that may have pushed the strategic voters into the Liberaal camp.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
Looks like "when in doubt, vote for the party that seems the strongest and not conservative", which is the liberals, cost the NDP BIG time. I'm sure if they had gotten off to a stronger start and had established themselves as the main anti-Harper party the liberals/NDP votes would be reversed.

But I don't mind, Harper out, all is well.

What's the biggest jump historically that a party has ever made? this is intense
