That was one of the worst speeches I've ever heard. Repeated the same thing over and over and said nothing.

And I support him.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Was covering the election for my local paper from the Liberal camp. Our candidate didn't win, in the end, but when he saw those seat numbers hit majority he broke down in tears.

What a surprising night, thank the gods that the cons didn't make a dent. Not even enough to keep it from being a majority. The reign of Herr Harper is finally over!! Woohoo!!

those NDP numbers were fucking disappointing though, what a bummer :(

As an NDP supporter, yes.
Tom Mulcair didn't deserve to win with that campaign

This is how I feel as well, as an NDP voter.

... but the liberals won the popular vote

it would have been a liberal minority

and it would almost guarantee no party ever has complete control and it would ensure progressive legislation

I'm pretty sure a non-trivial amount of Liberal votes would have gone to NDP today. Liberals are at 39.6% and Conservatives has 32.%.

To anyone that has followed politics before this: When do voter turnout numbers usually get released? I'm really interested in seeing the youth turnout.

Elections Canada usually releases those numbers soon after. So mabye tomorrow or even later tonight.

Whilst he appears to be raw, he does seem to lack the charisma and oratory skills of an Obama for instance.

I'm sure that people didn't vote for him for his orating skills, though.

I'm quite surprised how Harper got so many people not interested in politics to go and vote him out. Or at least that's how it seems like with the people I know.

I would bang a hot farmer!

That's assuming many who voted Liberal would have voted for them any way under PR. I know I would swing over to Green under PR and have in the past when I knew voting for them wouldn't allow the CPC to win my riding and also benefit them financially with my vote.

I feel the same way imo he just didn't stand out. I almost always vote NDP and this time I decided to vote Liberals simple because the NDP had no chance in winning this imo. It was important that Harper got the boot tonight and although I'm not the biggest fan of Trudeau I can agree with much on the Liberal platform as well as the NDP platform.

Truly nothing like the leadership of current Conservative party
They would be well-served to take inspiration from Joe Clark when deciding on their next leader instead of looking for someone modeled in the image of Stephen Harper.
Hope they find someone that fits that mold.

CBC turning heel with Rosemary Barton cackling in the background over propaganda cartoons of Trudeau tossing Harper into a dumpster.

In all fairness, they earned it after all the despicable shit they had to go through the last decade.

lol CBC didn't even show Duceppe's speech? I know the RoC gives zero fucks about the Bloc but he's still the leader of the party with a few seats on Parliament, come on.

Quito Maggi ‏@quito_maggi now

Seat count final projection was 177 lpc, 113 cpc, 45 ndp so we didn't do too badly #elxn42

Quito Maggi deserves to run to the bank with his prediction. He was pretty close.

I don't think Duceppe will be leader of the Bloc unless he finds a spare seat after tonight.

CPC has been cutting the CBC budget for years now. Let her have this one.
