Canceling a LIVE Subscription

so, not sure if anyone has ever gone through this process before...but canceling an xbox LIVE subscription is a pain in the ass.

first, microsoft makes you call them. which, ok - i get it, what with internet security lacking and all (those microsoft browser exploits and what have you)...but then they ask you why you want to cancel. which, seriously, is my own business. how bout that? then they tell you - "ohw, you know: microsoft is replacing exploding AC plugs"....is that right now, i asked?...as my cellular minutes waned, i grow impatient: i mean, this was a free 2 month trial that was starting to add up in tolerance points.

honestly, this needs to be streamlined and users should be able to cancel accounts online. at the end of the call, the sales rep stated my account info would be stored in their database if i ever chose to sign up again. "can i re-instate my username later?" no, he replied. "can you delete my info from your database? that doesn't make me very comfotable," i said....a pause....recital of standard company policy regarding information. i ask again, he repeats company policy. i ask a THIRD time to delete my info, and he states he can not access that info.

what a piss. have i mentioned microsoft's x360 "one universe" video ad campaigns are scary? what to ponder, hmmmmm

PS -

i will never read another issue of PLAY so long as dave halverson's name is associated to a single game review. this is my word. this is my oath to B.O.B.

I had to cancel an old account when I created a new one, and I was already one month past the billing date. Microsoft reimbursed me the fifty bucks for the other account with almost no hassle. Every question they asked you seems legit, and it seems like you're the one acting the fool, not them.

You have to call them? It's toll free. They ask you why you cancelled? Well, maybe they're actually interested why customers weren't satisfied with their service. Don't want to tell them? Don't say anything. They wasted your precious seconds telling you about a seftey hazard with old Xboxes? Whoop-de-fuckin'-doo!

I seem to recall they updated the dashboard with a cancel feature in the update that came shortly after Halo 2.

I cancelled my subscription through the XB Dashboard...

Turn on your XBox with no disc inside, and select the Xbox Live option, select your account and just cancel the subscription from there.

OMFG NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT DASHBOARD!!!

I just threw my XBOX away and bought another one! wTFz Microsoft scamd me.

"I don't know if its just me, but people sure as hell know how to sign up for XBOX Live, I'm very curious why its so hard to cancel."

the cancel button wasnt in the dashboard when i cancelled earlier this month

I'm too lazy to look now, but I don't remember there being a "Cancel button" I thought there was a option to take off your credit card and therefore stop the billing process. Still a simple call to Microsoft seems rather simple for a fallback plan. I've never had reason to cancel my service.

Search my old "cancled my xbox live account..." thread.

Told them Halo was more fun on Gamecube. And I don't even like Nintendo. :lol

I think you can only cancel a two month free trial, that hasn't wasted the two months yet, from the dashboard. If the two months have passed and they are charging you then you must call.

The cancel button has never worked for me. Either it doesnt work for trial accounts, doesnt work if you're in the UK or it just doesn't like me :(

Always had to ring up and make a stupid excuse while they try to give me Fable for the 5th time.
