Are people really so dumb as to not gripe about games sony own requiring the subscription yet you can go across the pond and it not be?

Sony gets away with PS+ because it's baked into their ecosystem: console, storefront, and "TV culture." Most casual users see it like Netflix — you buy a console, you get the sub for online and free games. It's normalized.

Not saying I like it, but it's how they've framed it. PC gaming, on the other hand, is built around a different crowd — more tech-savvy, vocal, and used to things like modding, early access, and community-driven content. Steam's whole vibe is very different from Sony's walled garden.

If Sony pulled the same subscription model on PC, it'd backfire hard. They know it. And with Xbox offering release parity and day one exclusives with Game Pass on both console and PC, Sony can't afford to look anti-consumer in that space. A paid PS+ for PC games would be dead on arrival.

Why isn't this being discussed in broad and more frequent? Am i missing something or misinformed? Why is it that console user is required to have a ps+ subscription to play helldivers 2 (a sony ip) yet across the pond you can play on pc without needing a subscription? I'm assuming playstation thinks this is ok for whatever future live service projects make it to market going forward.

But my question is why are we letting them get away with this? Especially those of you who like live service and or actively playing HD2 on console.

Are we going to get shafted and let free online play turn into psn 2.0 again?? Its down right disrespectful to the core fanbase who CHOOSE to buy into console. If i am missing something let me know. Otherwise we should and need to be beating this drum loud and clear so as to nip this in the bud before more live service games release..

It all started with Xbox introducing it, then 360 popularised it. Meanwhile Sony was struggling due to PS3 being over subsidised, and their other areas such as TV's were also struggling. So, Sony introduced it with PS4 but sweetened the deal by creating PS+.

It hasn't been removed because it makes them a lot of money.

Yes, you've mostly shifted to this persona I would say near around XBS launch. Owning a PC prior doesn't change this. Ive been a PC gamer since before geforce 1 too and own a 5090 now, doesn't change the fact that I don a PS5 and happily game on it too as well as PC. I'm just referring to the fact that you're pretending you're above paying when you happily paid and in a way continue to pay for XBLG for access on your consoles. You never raised a stink prior, on the contrary you praised it, that's what's relevant, not whether you owned a PC before or not.

Its not a persona, its the logical thing to do, ive got a pretty beefy PC and there are no exclusives on consoles anymore, crossplay is pretty much everywhere so my friendslist isnt tied to a single system anymore, why would I stick to console?
The market shifted and so did I.......

You calling it a persona is insulting......someone shifting their preferences based on shifts in the world isnt putting on a mask to hide their true colors, they are just adapting to the world around them I moved to mostly PC because I have no reason to be on console.
Im still planning on getting a Swtich 2 because it has compelling reasons for me to get it.....the Playstation 5 and Series X do not.

I pay for Essentials just for the free games I have in my backlog.

I get it on sale on Black Friday with cheap Shopto credit vouchers so it comes out at about £40 still.

Worth it in my opinion for the 200 free games.
