Capcom Fighting Collection 2 - Reviews Thread

To me this is the most exciting collection they've put out yet since we haven't seen these games on consoles in a very long time. I also like that the variety is a little better this time around.

I'm against censorship, but it's pretty mild. Not enough to stop a purchase. I just wish they were able to add more of the console exclusive features, but understand that'd take way more effort.

There are Japanese and NTSC versions of Project Justice (and maybe all of the games), which is awesome. And I cant remember if Story mode was in the American version of the game, or if Capcom translated this into English now?

US copies had story mode, but didn't have the board game from the JP version.

I caved, hooked up my HRAP and I want to say Powerstone 1 is still one hell of a game. I can't describe how I felt, but its very close to late 1999 with a DC and stick. It envokes the same experience. Powerstone 2 is fun and all, but it feels clunky, limited and slow compared to 1. Its not nearly as engaging and intense. And it looks worse.

I also want to give a shoutout to the overlooked Star Gladiator 2. I love it. I also bought it on DC way back, when it was cheaper. It looked like a souped up PS1 game (its a 1:1 system 12 arcade port unlike SC1 was). But the gameplay is insanely good. The characters are fun. And the music is Awesome as fuck. I'm gonna play this one, and Powerstone 1, a lot.

Its been so long I couldnt remember which part was missing from the NTSC disc.

But now the board game is also missing from the Japanese version in this game. At least as far as I can see. Its identical except for language.

Never played this but it feels great. Love the aesthetics of combat and design.

Probably due to it being the arcade versions. I can't fault Digital Eclipse/Capcom that much because this is a great collection at a great price with some nice bonuses and features, but I do wish some of these games would get the M2 treatment to make them the definitive versions of each title.

That story mode was awesome and there were some secret paths an all, if I remember correctly (on Dreamcast).

I think with Project Justice you don't miss much. The console version has the same Story and free mode like the arcade, with ofcourse dedicated Vs and Training modes which DE at least added to these arcade roms. And PJ DC had League and tournament battles, which were just round robin vs modes. But for the rest... I think its the same deal. The JP version had the board game which I forgot about since I did own this version too. I don't think I cared too much for it.

This goes for many of these games. Console versions didn't really add that much, save a few exceptions. In SFA3 you only miss World Tour which I frankly only rinsed to unlock Guile in the original PSX version. I was glad Saturn, DC had it already unlocked. Though I did play it on Saturn to unlock Shin Bison lol (that Psycho crusher was bad ass).

Powerstone 2's adventure mode I never bothered much with too, I think it was the same as the other modes with an item shop added. And hey, you get online play now.

Man I preordered this shit from Amazon over 2 months ago. Now it isn't even going to be delivered for another 10 days or more. What the fuck happened to Amazon, they used to get your games to you on release date. Should have just dropped by Worst Buy.

I bought it, but I got my ass kicked online with Sink vs. Capcom 2, mainly because some people program their every special move to one of the buttons. So you get Sagat just firing high and low tiger shots, you can't move. And if you slide to come close, he is ready for the uppercut.

I know I need to get good, but that's also cheating. Online should have basic buttons for everyone. If u know the moves, go ahead and execute them. But pressing a button to get it done, there is no time to evade or anything. kinda shit online and frustrating.

Again I am not super great in this game or anything. but i have been playing Street Fighter for 20 years. I know my way around. to get all 3 of my guys killed and that mfer is only on his first guy sagat and his health bar is not even 50%? yeah no

I had to turn off cross play to get lag free matches. It seems Powerstone 1 is more crowded than 2. Had some good games in both.

Powerstone 2 though, its pretty skilless. Its fun if you don't want to get sweaty. Just dick around in the scenery, use items, and collect stones. You can even set it to 3 players win I think. But even if you play bad, if you get the final hit you seem to get the full points. This is a party game.

Powerstone 1 is def harder. It has more mechanics to learn, and what super is best in what situation. Its also 1 on 1 ofcourse, so you need to manage the stones on the map. You CAN beat someone in transformation, I managed to do a few airthrows on them. But this game is also luck dependant on where stones spawn and the evasion mechanic seems to be random. I never feel a win is certain, its quite thrilling. Unlike 2.

CvS2 has the EO for online play, which is a baffling decision I think. But there is more, like, you can play Shin Akuma, God Rugal etc in Ranked too. And Demon Hyo in PJ etc. It seems they just didn't bother. Those characters are broken and I think should be in casual matches only.

I'm playing it and I'm really enjoying the collection more than a AAA game like Tekken or another.

The online experience is super cool, especially since there are people playing Rival School and Star Gladiator.

I really liked seeing the different characters in Capcom vs. SNK 2.

The online atmosphere feels great.

It's soooooo good to have these games playable on modern systems. Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2 are the highlights of this collection for me.
Yes, having the best crossover in the history of fighting games.

My characters are Ryu, Nakoruru, Sakura, Athena, and Yuri.

Listening to this great theme while watching amazing characters like Ryu, Ken, Terry, and Mai...

And then seeing powerful ones like Rugal. It's so epic to see who is the most powerful of the two universes.

I've done my part.

Too bad Capcom didn't release it physically in Europe, luckily I could get the US release from Netgames in Germany.

What I find most special about Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Specially Capcom vs. SNK 1 in particular, is the epic quality of choosing the pace and style of the industry's Titanic companies.

The combat with Capcom and SNK players is unified in a game with its own unique styles.

In my case, I know the stories, techniques, and strategies of the SNK and Capcom characters.

And guess who's more powerful... Ryu vs. Terry? Chun-li vs. Mai? Or is Rugal more powerful than Bison?

At least I'm passionate and excited about that game.

And they bring this awesome music stage

Edited as i got thrings wrong;

Just bought and played for powerstone 2. No team battle options. You CAN change the settings to have 1 person as the winner (instead of 2). You cna play the secret level if you pick random.
Between this and no cross play from the last fighting collection Capcom is really dropping the ball on earning my money.

That game is a great success as the ultimate crossover... So are Marvel vs. Capcom.

Street Fighter vs. Tekken would have been epic too if they'd planned it better.

Generally most content is there. Extra Characters are unlocked by default (can be switched on and off). Training and Vs mode are there. As is score attack. Project Justice has the edit characters from the ENG console port included too, but you have to flick on the settings. Powerstone 1 and 2 have the extra characters unlocked. I think all of these weren't playable in the coin op. You can change Powerstone 2's settings to last man standing. But no Team battle is unfortunate. And honestly, the default setting of 2 winners makes the arcade version rather useless. The game is just boring as is. Ranked only allows 2 players with AI. Maybe player matches are better if they allow 4 players.

Powerstone 1 though, exactly like DC version with online play. Its intense as fuck. Its one of those games thats better than I remembered. Probably because there never has been anything like it since. For me it runs circles around its sequel.

Its arcade ports. This was to be expected I think.

They never went the extra mile to include a Vampire Savior with all characters for example. So you had to juggle between arcade revisions which would fragment the online even further.

Now, they did include some extra chars etc.
