Captain America: Civil War - Final Trailer

I'm betting you could probably walk right into Civil War and roll with what you're watching without having to see any of the previous films.

Thunderbolt Ross is probably gonna fill everyone in pretty clearly, it seems.

In the grand scheme of things it isn't too important though.

I think the first Cap is very important for establishing who Cap is and where his morality comes from. Plus from the trailer for Civil War it seems to thematically come back to the first movie.

"I can do this all day."

Weird that the Ross montage didn't have the Thor 2 climax
Even in universe the Thor movies aren't worth thinking about

Cap respectively going against the Government and then later doing whatever he can to save his friend in Winter Soldier is more than enough.

Yeah, but that callback will work just fine on its own for people, in context, without the previous knowledge.

Granted, it'll work BETTER with the previous movie fresh in your mind, and knowledge of the larger universe will enhance certain moments like that. But I bet a lot of this shit will still work just fine on fresh eyes.

The more I think about this, the more I think they shoudn't have included it in the trailer.

You have to watch Winter Soldier, the Avengers (both) and at least one Iron Man flick.

And a Raimi Spider shitfest just to appreciate the true cinematic coming of Spidey.

You could probably take your Star Wars article and swap out some movie titles for the MCU films and it would work about the same.

So in the MCU there are only like 10 super heroes? Wouldn't call that a Civil War tbh

I haven't been watching the show, but apparently Agents of Shield has a bunch of Inhumans running lose now, which could've added to the premise...

Until somebody asked the Russos about and had no idea what the fuck they were talking about.

I feel like I would be the only person in my theater to get that reference. Like I was the only one in my theater watching Zootopia to get the
Breaking Bad
joke.

It jumpstarts the Infinity Stone arc that basically defines the entire MCU saga lol

Sure, if someone is jogging their memory with rewatches it's not hugely important due to being a pretty straightforward flick, but the poster said they hadn't watched any of these movies other than the first 3, for that purpose I'd argue they're all required viewing to set you up for Civil War if you're into it. Other than the two useless Thor films of course.

But yes, no one with an attention span should get lost going blind into Civil War

Probably. I give Marvel credit: one of the bigger problems with the superhero publishing model is how fucking claustrophobic and choked-off the continuity can make any story feel, and they've done a pretty good job at interconnecting the films without forcing you to actually have watched any of the other ones in order to make sense of the current one.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that completely breaks the narrative in any of these Marvel movies due to a first-time viewer's lack of knowledge. Granted, setting up hooks for future movies sometimes makes those films a bit of a chore and usually detracts from the experience, but so far as I can tell, none of the MCU films really depend on your familiarity with their universe in order to enjoy any individual movie.

Spider Man 2 is better than, like, Thor 2 and Iron Man 2 lol

Of course it is. By default, it's better than those two because it's better than every MCU movie.

You know I've been thinking. For real. Between Batman v Superman and Captain America: Civil War, we have two huge blockbusters about iconic people in tights and costumes pretending to be larger than life figures while essentially fake-kicking and fake-punching each other. Fans cheer on and pick teams. And it is likely in both films it will turn out that there's a bad bad person in a business suit manipulating it all to get them to fight.

How are superhero movies any different from WWE at this point? Have we been suckered? Is this the final form of cinema? Glorified wrestling with 200 million dollar budgets?!

We're getting suplexes in comic movies. Won't be long until Cap gives someone the AA and goes full John Cena.

Oh and also that one episode of Jessica Jones where the woman gets really pissed off. I hope that was to build a little Civil War Defenders tie in (on the shows, I know the films packed). Seems weird they'd be obsessed with getting a guy with a bow and arrow to sign up and not Luke Cage.

have you guys seen the kid doing gymnastics... he fucking learned (or already knew?) how to flip around like spidey... im all in with this kid man!!! look at this shit!

Tom Holland is dedicated! (also this kinda shows that he will be doing a lot of his own stunt flipping... and that it might not all be CGI!)

Wow. I didn't really have any doubts about this casting, but this is pretty impressive.

"every MCU movie"? lol, nah.

lol indeed, buddy. Yeah. Even with Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst not being very good versions of Peter & Mary Jane, Spidey 2 is a better made movie in pretty much every possible way than ANYTHING Marvel's put out. That's not to say Marvel's best is bad or anything. They've done really, really good work. But even their best has yet to hit the level Spidey 2 hit.

But don't take my word for it: Here's the GAF consensus, as arrived at last year:

lol, "consensuses" are cool and all but yeah totally disagree. aside from Ock and JJJ that movie is a giant turd. I guess I am a bit picky when it comes to spidey though. for me the movie could have been made well but if the characterization of the leads is off to the degree that it was in those movies it really doesn't make a difference. that's where Marvel knocks it out of the park in their movies and why I prefer almost all of them to Spider Man 1 and 2 despite Spider Man being my favorite hero.

Nothing like Spidey.

Spidey should move with a inhuman, alien grace. Cause his body can bend in ways no human can replicate

Oh shit, this line would be perfect with a teenage Spidey. I hope they wholesale rip this line out ;___;

They ever do this I hope they replace him with Miguel O Hara for their ethnic Spider-Man instead of boring Miles.

But of course they shouldn't do it all because that's friggin lame. Let him grow up and have a child and let her be Spider-Girl.

I feel like regardless of if the characterization of Peter and Mary Jane is comic accurate or not, the character story told in that film is more successful than anything in the MCU by a fair margin.

Yeah. And this kinda makes more sense in terms of how Spider-Man stores his webbing refills, since a belt underneath his costume (like in the comics) would normally create a weird bump around his waist in real life. Same logic would apply to his web-shooters underneath his costume. Plus you could have interesting moments like Peter sliding his wrist past his waist to insert one of the web cartridges & immediately shoot his webs.

He's clearly just working out/getting into physical shape for stunts. And yes to be able to do some level of moves. What you're seeing isn't exactly what he's going to do in the film.
