Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate |OT|

Excuses already? If it's a good game it should be able to stand on its own.

And it's not like Monster Hunter is a threat to any game in the West. I have no idea about Luigi's though. Personally more interested in Luigi's and Castlevania than Monster Hunter. Especially after that demo.

Was that your first experience with MH? Because it was mine and I thought the camera was freaking ridiculous. 3DS needs a second stick so bad (I know about the attachment, but still).

Nice visuals though.

Definitely not buying it even if I'm a huge Castlevania fan(before Iga fan mostly but I enjoyed Aria/Dawn/Order), but a weird part of me hopes it's not the utter crap I expect it to be.

That 8.5 review gives me some hope

MHFU on Vita (via the PSP store) was. Playing without a second stick on 3DS is just awful to me after playing it on the Vita with dual sticks.

Just tried the demo, so glad i did. I really couldn't get into the game. I guess i was hoping it was gonna be more similar to SoTN. It actually reminded me more of the 2d prince of Persia games than a 2d Castlevania game. Very weird analogy but that's what i felt from it.

Is this the same developer who made the PS3/360 game?

If so its kind of hilarious that not only can they not code for consoles, but they can't code for handhelds either.

Not necessarily true. The game could crash or not run at all.

I actually had more trouble with the 3ds version. I am a claw pro and I couldn't figure out the claw equivalent on the 3ds. The "camera lock" was a nice feature though.

it was a Weekend News Paper Suppliment, UK based was reading it a breakfast, anyway the Game got a 7

(either the people or the Sun)

dont read too much into it as I cannot remember the exact source just the score.

Happy with a 7, predicting 7 - 8.5s mostly

It's the same developer, yeah.

And IMO it's probably more an issue of priorities, i.e. better looking graphics at the expense of framerate.

I own and love all the GBA and DS Castlevania games but I don't think I'll be picking up Mirror of Fate at launch, sadly. The game feels decent enough to me from the demo but there are other 3DS games I'd rather be playing right now (FE, EO4, soon Monster Hunter) so I don't really want to pay full price for it. It's funny, if this game was anything like the GBA/DS games I'd be clearing out my schedule for it but now it just feels like another slightly above average game that I'd like to play at some point in the future. Oh well, hopefully it surprises me.

I played the demo, and it made me sad. That framerate killed me. This will be the first Castlevania in a long time I've skipped out on.

I'm on an action game kick so I just bought the first game for PS3 for $15 on Amazon. How was this game? I'm looking forward to it. Oh wait this is the 3DS game? Nevermind then.

I wasn't actually bothed by the framerate in the demo that much, which is ironic as I'm always complaining about how most consoles games have terrible fps. Guess I got other standards when it comes to handhelds. Probably not going to get this though, I enjoyed the first one for it's atmosphere and story but the game got a bit tedious.

I guess I preordered this at some point, because I just got a shipping notification. Here's to hoping it's good!

The game really gets better when you play as Alucard! Just got through a few tough boss fights, in particular this boss in the Toy Maker's domain which was a combination of a bird, a lion and a spider or something. Took some Ninja Gaiden-esque skills to win there.

There were some better, more colorful spots in the full game I wish were in the demo. Yes the framerate is not very good but it doesn't get in the way of the gameplay. I'm in the middle so far, and it feels like an HD console game in terms of other production values. Also a couple of nice puzzles in there.
if you use clues for the puzzles they grant less experience. Nice touch.

You should give context to your spoilers, otherwise how should anyone know whether or not it's safe to read those?

After reading this thread, I feel dirty for liking the demo. I mean, the framerate was not really good, but didn't make the game unplayable.
One must forget other portable castlevanias before playing it, if the game has enough length, I might buy it.

I think the spoiler tags are evident enough. What more context do you really need? It's read at your own risk.

Keep Igarashi away too. First one was fine but they all felt the same after that.

Give Castlevania the Contra Rebirth treatment. I want my old school Castlevania with ambiguous hints and not obsession with RPG mechanics(yes, I know they existed before SOTN, but they got ridiculous after that)

They did. It was on WiiWare and was by Iga. It was excellent too!

Highlighting a spoiler tag shouldn't be "on your own risk" though, I should be able to make an informed decision about it. That's why someone should be a little more specific when using a spoiler tag. Just posting a spoilered paragraph without any context whatsoever is rather useless.

I think this is also part of GAF's etiquette, actually.

Not that it really matters much in a Castlevania game. :p

That's what I'm talking about yeah. On the 3ds game. Crazy how you either have to juggle the stylus or use the dpad, which is just...impractical.

First time playing the demo = "this is horrible!"

Second time playing the demo = "OK, this isn't as bad as I thought..."

Third time playing the demo = "I think I'll pick this up..."

I had a similar experience with this game : After playing the demo for the first time, I didn't like it and erased the demo from my 3DS. Ths morning I redownloaded the demo and it clicked! It's different from all the awesome DS CV games, but It's still fun and challenging. I'll be buying it via eShop first day!

Demo was a lot more fun once I realised it was more like a 2D God of War than a Castlevania game (I haven't played the origina LoS yet). The 3D was really nice IMO. I'll probably get this if I ever get around to the original game.

I predict some good praise from Gaffers the moment they get into it.

Anyway, had a really, really nice breakfast with Mercury Steam guys this morning. CEO, MoF director, programmer, sound guy, lead artist, etc. Will share complete feature when it's done, many interesting details on this game, the series, the studio... and even some LoS 2 clues.

We chatted about that great 3D effect and the framerate stuff.

Tech guy says 3D effect is enhanced due to dynamic lighting. Also framerate issues were polished during last phase of development, when that's usually done. They always looked for 30fps and never considered AA when in 2D mode, since that's the way it was designed (3D) and it's meant to be played. And they're right IMO.

Sucks that they focused on 3D more than 2D. On my XL I can almost never maintain a clear 3D image, especially in this demo. I hate stupid gimmicks when they affect my enjoyment of an otherwise good game.

The game seems to have a deep 3D effect, so it is easier to lose the sweet spot and see double images because the images for each eye are very different.

But i have to say, this game has one of the most impressive 3D uses on the console, if the demo is indicative of the overall experience.

Definitely in my buying list, although i'm not sure if i should spend 50 euros on this, hopefully some gaffers will share their impressions and convince me if it is worth paying full price.

Sounds good. Cautiously optimistic that the framerate will be improved in the final version.

Yep, when I stop moving at all and find the sweetspot the 3D looks great. Then when I start moving and actually play the game, all I get are double images. It's pretty much unplayable to me. Conversely I have no such problems with a game like SML3D. It seems to be less of an issue on the smaller 3DS than the XL, but there's no way I'm giving up the big screens. I'll be fine playing the game in 2D.
