Castlevania VS Advance Wars: FIGHT

I'm getting a DS on Jan. 1st with my Christmas stash, and I plan on getting:

-DS (Mario Kart Bundle)
-Animal Crossing

So, I need one more game, and I'm thinking of getting either Castlevania or Advance Wars. Which one should I go for? I like strategy games, but I also like action games like Castevania (plus AoS rocked). I just can't decide.

Which one is the best? Right now, I'm sort of leaning toward Castevania. I plan on getting FF1&2 very soon, so I wouldn't want to have two turn based games (FF and Advance Wars). HELP ME GAF!

Advance Wars FTW. Much more playability, but I can understand you going either way. Both excellent games.

I've played through DoS three times already--it simply outclasses AoS...Plus Julius Mode feels like a full game this time. :D

Hmm. That sounds pretty good. Plus, I have found Matlock is usually right with his gaming reviews/advice.

Any more opinions?

DoS. But Advance Wars should be YOUR IMMEDIATE NEXT PURCHASE. Such a good game, I got pretty good at it , I had thought I sucked at it. Turns out that's just for Ouendan, boy do I suck at Ouendan.

This is not a choice. Not the good kind, anyway. This is asking us to help you choose between two terrible sacrifices. =(

Is there any way you could be talked into holding off on Animal Crossing for a spell?

Both are more of the same. But extremely improved more of the same, so hard choice. Still, I'd go for Castlevania. Both are brilliant. Toss a coin.

I'll go for Castlevania if I were you, then AWDS down the road... one thing for sure, you better get both!

I enjoy Castlevania more. Be sure to play both though, if you're a fan of both series you can't really go wrong with picking either.

DAMNED GOOD platformer VS DAMNED GOOD strategy.

Platforming is my favorite genre, so Castlevania takes the crown for me. But it depends on what you like.

thats like asking which gorgeous brazilian womans hair you should touch. It's all good!

awars has more replayability and is fucking great, but then castlevania isn't exactly short either. If longevity is a large concern though, get awars, you could pick that up in 2 years and do something new, otherwise, flip a coin.

DOS. AW is really good but I'd say DOS is a better showcase of your new system graphically and audiowise.

FFI+FFII? You must already have FFIV then? Or are you planning on playing them Chronologicaly? Cause I'd get FFIV first myself.

Well, I'm getting 1&2 for the GBA soon because I've never played a FF game outside of FFVII (cue laughter and pointing). -_-

I'm leaning toward Castlevania even more now. About how long is the game? I know AW can last for countless hours.

Maybe in audio quality, but as far as the compositions go, IMO Advance Wars has possibly the most awesome soundtrack since Chrono Trigger. And maybe even better than CT, because I'm not sure if nostalgia is blinding me.

Please get FFIV instead. FF2 sucks and plays like some hybrid abomination of Final Fantasy and Romancing SaGa, and they completely neutered the Dawn of Souls version of FF1, to the point where it's among the top 3-5 easiest RPGs ever.

Does it really matter which one you get first? They are both excellent AAA titles; you can't go wrong either way.

About a 10 hour adventure the first time (I think, I never checked the game clock)...

edit: hard mode details, from gamefaqs

Beat the game with the good ending (all bosses). The "New Game +" will be the
"clear" bat icon above your saved game slot. You can make a copy of your
existing game and then use the copy for playing New Game + in either normal or
hard mode. That way you can keep messing around in that game as well.

You do not need 100% of the souls, nor do you need to have covered 100%
of the map to finish the game, get the good ending and unlock New Game +.

To access New Game +, select the clear bat icon that appears overtop your file
(or copied file if you don't want to overwrite your original game). You get
a message saying items and souls will be transferred, with some exceptions, to
the new game. You then can decide whether you want to play in normal or hard
mode.

In New Game +, you start at the beginning of the story, but you come equipped
with all the items you had before you started New Game + and most of the souls.
However, you start with entry-level stats.

These enemies did not transfer into New Game +: Procel, Black Panther, Mudman,
Malphas, Puppet Master, Rahab, Zephyr, Bat Company, and Paranoia.

These did: Gergoth, Aguni, Death and Abaddon.

You will reacquire all the items you found and the bosses you beat before.

If you want to experience the full glory of hard mode, you can free all your
souls and sell all your items. You'll start "naked" and rich.

These are some basic differences between normal and hard mode (credit to
devilishmew, who contributed these to the message board):

* Zombies and Ghouls move faster and can poison you.
* Peeping Eyes wake up faster.
* Slimes can poison you.
* Attacks from Ghouls will knock you back and poison you.
* Draghignazzo, Barbariccia, and Malacoda will all knock you back when
attacking you.
* All Medusa Heads petrify you.
* Ukobacks get faster.
* Bone Arks fire two energy shots instead of one.
* Attacks from Tanjellies will poison AND curse you.
* Flying Armor does more damage.
* Balore gets faster.
* Puppet Master's iron maiden dolls require 4 attacks to be destroyed
instead of 2.
* Rahab drops more icicles.
* Aguni gets much faster.
* Death gets faster and his attacks become more frequent.
* Axe Armor throws axes faster.

...and Julius Mode is pretty much Castlevania 3 in the DoS castle. Julius has the typical items (cross, holy water, axe, cross crash), Yoko is the mage (ice, fire, electric), and Alucard has the 3 fire blast and the ability to turn into a bat. Mind you, without the souls and items that make you a badass in the normal game, Julius Mode is tough. :D

Just buy it! That's like 50 cents an hour.

Nah... I wouldn't say I love FE, at least not anymore. Don't listen to Drinky. Buy Animal Crossing (I guess...). At least it's better than Castlevania and Advance Wars.

You're the most passive hater ever.
Duder making the request - definitely snag both in the long run, but it sounds like DoS is your choice for now. Do us proud.

Between the two, Advance Wars has the most replayability potential. By a long shot. And if you can come to tersm with the new stylus control, you have a better game than the previous two.

Really, you need to find a way to fenagle both of them.
