I'm pretty sure Forza is 1080p. I played that at the XBox One Tour too and if it was 900p during gameplay, you could've fooled me.

Source: My Eyes. Also I played Ryse and could tell the difference

Well, at this piont it seems MS relies to Kinetic the same way Nintendo did with the Wii controller , in order to have succes with Xbone.

I'm only up to page seven, but I remember MS saying that system could detect when it was over heating and down clock itself to avoid damage. Maybe the up clocks have made this happen more often, which would cause performance issues.

Well said....Wish people would discuss this more.

The most interesting part of the original post is the "xboxs out in the wild see what I mean about issues"....then "up clocks", and then next sentence about risk everywhere .

So Upclocks sandwiched between issues and risks....Could be totally unrelated, don't know

That will always make me chuckle. "I need some experts to tell me if that game looks good". You'll be able to see the game for yourself. If you can't tell if it's 1080p or not, it means that being 1080p doesn't really matter.

Experts will tell you if it is 1920x1080 or 1650x1080 or any other resolution. I suppose for you all sub HD games this gen were good looking for me IQ is important.

IBM truly screwed over their own customer in Sony. Its mind boggling when you hear the full story.

I wouldn't trust IBM after that and I don't think anyone possibly should unless you have lawyers draft up an unbreakable contract which would prevent "back room deals".

MS moneyhatting the Cell is probably the biggest moneyhat ever in gaming.

Thats a great counter argument.

It wasn't meant to be one. You have 0 proof that it was planned for a 2013 release and all signs point to 2014. So just give up.

Do you need to download 1/2 of KZ:SF for it to work? 1/2 of Knack? Has this even happened before? Nope...

They are not adding to the game, they are literally finishing it in that time. The game does not work without that download. That is unprecedented, as far as I know.

I would not do that. Infamous is open world :P
You can still play the game, and how long does cert even take? 2 weeks? By launch, the games will be 99% done.

and whats going on, the second post you quoted isn't me, but its showing up as me.

I think that was the plan all alone TBH.

Heard plenty of times that MS wanted to move xbox into a mobile style upgrade cycle with hardware upgrades every 2 years or so.
I've been wondering why game companies haven't gone with this model tbh, they need to provide some kind of upgrade type system where you are locked to live or psn but getting cheaper prices for the console say every 3 years, similar to how upgrades on mobile devices work.

Cert and disc pressing generally takes 4-6 weeks, for a first party game at launch it's likely it would be between 3-5 weeks.

Xbox One was always planned for Winter 2013 just like the PS4 was both companies knew that it was practically common sense especially after the 2012 E3 started showing next gen games like Watch Dogs and 1313. I don't think CBOAT is disputing that in his post he is just saying xbox one made a lot more sense to come out in 2014.

I think what really is to blame is Microsofts incompetence they are letting MBA's and marketing people put together this system rather than actual engineers and game designers. I don't understand how after seeing the Wii U flop out of the gate by not having any killer games at launch and gimmicky hardware they decided to do the same thing. It's also a headscratcher that they thought Sony was sleeping and wouldn't be competitive with their offerings. But then again those are the reasons matrick was fired and balmer is on his way out the door (hopefully he will take everyone involved with xbox one with him)

Here is what I predict. I still predict Xbox one will end up roughly like the sega Saturn (or at best the xbox 1 (lol)) and be abandoned in 3 years for a brand new xbox console (assuming MS decides to stay in gaming).

Yes, it does seem like MS has been very disorganized and not ready for this release, however I CAN believe that it was planned for late 2013 versus 2014. If that's the case it's just a result of poor organization and planning. Not something that's totally foreign to MS these days, unfortunately.

CBOAT has come upon us, and it's a madhouse! There's rioting in the streets! Juniors, cut down left and right! It's pandemonium I tell you, pandemonium!

Anyway, not much in the way of real surprises this time. Having been following the hardware discussions and seeing the current set of games and their target resolutions for the Xbone, 720p/900p is p. much expected by this point. Seeing the 2014 bit, and famousmortimer weighing in on that bit on top of that, lends more weight to the notion of a 2014 release, though it's interesting that apparently they might've launched some time mid-year instead of near the holidays. I'm kinda wondering now, given the talk of potential subsidy plans for the Xbone, particularly with that recent Bonus Round video, if that might still be on the table and was just meant to be hammered out much closer to a 2014 launch date. If so, the idea might have gone something like, "if there's a subsidy plan it doesn't matter if we launch much earlier in the year because people will see a cheap new console and be plenty willing to get it straight away." They'd have Halo 5 for the holiday hype train anyway, so probably not much worry about not being able to stir interest back up by the end of the year anyhow.

That said, I am concerned about the following:

wehn hw is out in wild you wil se wat I meant about isues. puclocks too. Risk evwyerhwere. this palce is ntus.

Not sure what to get out of this, particularly that "Risk everywhere" bit. Some are saying RROD 2.0... I still can't wrap my head around the idea that MS would go through that again when the first time around was such an expensive money sink, not to mention the erosion of consumer confidence in the hardware. Maybe there's some other hardware related issues that'll crop up in some other ways, I've no idea.

Little over a month until both systems hit the streets... Gonna be a carnival when they land, heh.

I think that was the plan all alone TBH.

Heard plenty of times that MS wanted to move xbox into a mobile style upgrade cycle with hardware upgrades every 2 years or so.

It that was the plan, they sure are wasting a tonne of money on upgraded controllers and R&D on their system. Haven't they publically stated that they wanted the Xbox One to have a 10y lifecycle as well?

I don't doubt that they want to move towards that faster upgrade cycle, but all signs point to that not being the case yet.

My guess, as well as some others here, is that Sony's Feb announce threw MS for a loop and sent them into hurry mode. They don't want to be late to the party and give Sony any room in the game, so they finished up and are shipping earlier than they wanted. It could also be that MS was ready, but hoped that Sony would follow suit in a number of areas, mostly in DRM, spec, and pricing. Sony, on the other hand, surprised them on all fronts.

The fact that MS doesn't have a clear strategy with the Xbox One and the focus on Kinect had a negative impact on the design of the product as a game console is obvious.
The fact that many games won't run at 1080p until developers get more comfortable with the architecture is resonable.
But thinking that the upclocks they have made are at the cost of reliability is absolutely crazy, it's really hard to believe that. If there are widespread hardware issues with this console, the market won't forgive.

The market will absolutely forgive. Do you remember the RROD? The xbox had games people wanted to play so some put up with it and bought multiple boxes. My current xbox is my third console. All the others died.

If it is important for you, you should be able to judge for yourself if the IQ is good or not, without needing the input of other people.

Not sure how this is news. Didn't everyone already know that XBO is underpowered compared to PS4? TBH whether it plays 720p, 900p, 1080p (as long as it's not SD), I don't really care as long as the framerates are good and the games are fun.

fixed

You literally cannot play that game with out that download, look it up...
Unless I don't understand what you are saying. In any case, the point is all the games for Xbox One seem rushed, and that includes Froza.
and whats going on, the second post you quoted isn't me, but its showing up as me.
My crappy editing is going on, lol.

Upclocking with the yield issues means higher chance of hardware not capable of running the amount of power that is available, and that could result in hardware failing. Any upclock, no matter what yield, should theoretically increase the amount of defects, lest the clock was set so low that there were big enough margins. The point is that an upclock has to be a calculated risk. You can't predict how the entire manufacturing will go, so you have to say "there's now a good chance that all consoles will be able to withstand an upclock of x Hz", which might turn out not to be true, and create defects.

Infact I think it's obvious they have calculated the impact of the recent upclocks on reliability and they probably had such safe margins in first place (big box with a lot of empty space, no internal psu, CPU designed to be clocked up to 2GHz) that they concluded that such impact will be almost irrelevant.
If consoles start to overheat and freeze in a widespread way because of the overclocks, they're fucked with this product.

I blame Kaz. He said he'd let MS announce first then exactly 30 days later PS4 was announced. Pretty slick move and look where MS is now? Fumbling everything and not prepared.

Yeah, sounds like 3-5 weeks to add a few courses and cars. It's not like the game would be an unfinished mess without them. The fact that cert is enough tome for them to "finish" the game shows that it's almost done if anything.

These threads are always a treat. Brings the darkness of neoGAF out into the light.

Is there any chance that even though most launch games won't be 1080p, as the gen progresses will we see developers try to churn out more 1080p titles? Or will they stick with pushing out more bells and whistles like this gen?

Games should be fun, and it shouldn't really be about resolution, but the issue is that MS is planning on riding this thing for several years and still entice gamers to buy their system and play games on it. Not being able to output in native 1080p and be able to compete head to head with Sony in both resolution, framerate, and fidelity could end up being very bad for MS over the course of the gen.

This may just mean PS4 games are gimped and the real showdown is only on first party titles, but a lot of more mainstream gamers (read: CoD) will most likely gravitate to the system that looks and runs games better.

Judgin from what ? 720p compressed youtube footage ?

Even if you take 1080p gamersyde video it is still compressed (few artifacts but overall good quality) and not representative of game that you will be playing.

From all earlier presented footage we saw problems with AA and we didn't have direct feed 1080p gameplay. That pointed at problems with resolution or AA method.

Give me 1080p direct feed uncompressed footage and i will tell you if it is 1080p or not. That is beside point that many people here are curious about tech used in games and want to give credit dev team where it is valid.

edit:

This is the same reason why people don't know Deep Down native resolution. There is no source material to base assumption. They released 720p screenshots but gamersyde recorded offscreen footage that looked like well above 720p.

I can't imagine a 53mhz upclock having much of an effect on reliability. It's still well below that particular chip's TDP. The only "risk" I can think of that he might be talking about is that they implemented some sort of super aggressive thermal protection routine that automatically downclocks shit based on operating temperature. In other words, people who stick their consoles in enclosed spaces will start complaining about games performing like crap.

So, it's been confirmed Xbone will need to download an update before it will work offline, correct? And PS4 won't need this at all? Sucks for the people with no internet... But then again, they won't be able to read this to know anyways, XD.

I've heard it's a small download, though, but still... tacky, IMO.

I did, courses and cars included late in the career mode have to be added along with pre set drivatars. The game is playable though

Xbox One launch game Forza Motorsport 5 requires a one-time download before it can be played.

But then they updated it to make even more confusing

Update: Speaking with IGN again, Turn 10's Dan Greenwalt altered his previous statement to now say the requirement of a connection to Xbox Live before playing is "not the plan." However, when or if the game requires an internet connection for single-player content is still not clear. We've contacted Microsoft for further clarification.

From joystick...

I am pretty sure both companies programed a 2013 winter launch for their new consoles, the problem with MS is that they though ps4 and Xbone will have similar power but that is not the case and pS4 resulted more powerfull. They did not have time to improve anything , the only way to do it is to move to a 2014 launch but that would be very risky. The decided to keep to the plan and max as possible the Xbone capabilities and this is generathing issues.

Thats my theory

Have a friend who owns the game, and play it from his shared library.

even if it's only 60 minutes, that should be more than enough time to judge!

see what I did there

Erm, demo pods in shops everywhere ? Is there still a real world out there or are we all stuck in the matrix ?

Sorry i am not from US. There is literally 0 pods here in Poland for Xbone console. (nor PS4 have any). Tier 2-3 nation for MS

What is exactly your point ? We shouldn't look for tech behind games because subjectively for some person it can make difference and for other people not ? I based my assumption on what i saw and you are here trying to sell story that its funny that i don't know res from material i saw.

“While playing, the player will be asked to connect to Live in order to download a completely fresh set of player-created Drivatar opponents – it’s not a lot of data, but the download contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings,” he said.

“Connecting will also download new content – but the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc. This download is simply additional cars and tracks. The gameplay is not blocked while downloading the additional content; it’s done in the background just like disc install.”

The complete game will not be on the disk. You still need that download, without it you literally cannot finish the game. The only reason you can play this game is because of the ability to download in the background the play at the same time. Also, I wonder if the game will play at all, if the background download is not started when the game asks you to. Even though it says this...
In other words, you can open the box, insert the disc, and start playing, whether or not you connect to Xbox Live right away. That said, if you have plans to finish Forza 5′s career mode, you will need to grab that DLC.

The point still remains that complete game is not on the disk and from that I infer that the game is rushed.
