Some notes -

CD Projekt Red’s Franchise and Lore Designer Cian Maher is a former writer at TheGamer who has made it clear he does not like gamers and even wants to punch them.

Regarding, Netflix’s The Witcher show, he wrote:
“Annoys me when people say Netflix's Witcher writers don't respect the lore. They have made sweeping changes, yes. Some of them have been questionable, others have been outright bad. But it is crystal clear that they love and respect Sapkowski's books. That is a lazy criticism.”

On transgender ideology so much so that he now dislikes the Harry Potter novels because of author J.K. Rowling’s political stance on the issue.

“The thing that will never cease to amaze me about people who tirelessly defend Harry Potter is that they'll say, ‘But you used to like it, you just don't like it anymore because you disagree with JKR's brazen transphobia’ and it's like... Yes? Why would I need any other reason.”

YouTuber The Reviewer: Wild Take investigated Maher’s history and specifically a number of posts he made to X where he shared his desire to commit violence against gamers and expressed his disdain for them.

The Reviewer: Wild Take first noted that Maher’s video game career did not begin in development work, but he was an Associate Editor and eventually Lead Features Editor at TheGamer.com from September 2020 to December 2021.

He then became the Associate Editor at GLHF Entertainment AB, which describes itself as a '“company [that] provides best-in-class written and video content to some of the world’s biggest publishers.”

He only stayed there for 4 months before becoming games consultant in August 2022. He then joined CD Projekt Red in April 2023.

Next, he began digging into his post history on X by doing simple key word searches for “gamers” and others which quickly populates how much disdain he has for gamers.

In July 2022, he shared a Bernie Sanders meme that reads, “I am once again asking for you to stop being toxic little weirdos.”

In June 2021, he wrote, “law school being easier than dealing with gamers says everything anyone needs to know about this gig lmao.”

In December 2020, he complained that being a games journalist was difficult, “the thing i find funny about gamers complaining about how good games journalists have it is, like... if you think this job is so incredibly well-paid (it's not) and easy (it's not), why don't you just do it yourself”

As The Reviewer: Wild Take also points out he has no qualms praising massive lore breaking shows such as Netflix’s The Witcher and The Rings of Power despite his job being a Lore designer, which one would assume is to stay true to the lore.

Concerning Rings of Power, he wrote in 2023, “Tolkien fans obsessed with ‘accuracy’ are so f***ing weird. ‘Nobody cares about this adaptation’ — why do you care about any adaptation then? The only reason you're upset about Rings of Power is because ‘critiquing’ it allows you to pretend your vitriol and bigotry have value.”

To no surprise, he’s projecting as in his next post he claims that Sam has brown skin, “What's also funny is that most of the loudest Tolkien ‘fans’ online constantly tell on themselves You've read the books, yeah? Cool, so you know Sam has dark skin. How accurate was it to cast Sean Astin then? What's that? Speak up please, I can't hear you — where are you going?”

Regarding, Netflix’s The Witcher show, he wrote, “Annoys me when people say Netflix's Witcher writers don't respect the lore. They have made sweeping changes, yes. Some of them have been questionable, others have been outright bad. But it is crystal clear that they love and respect Sapkowski's books. That is a lazy criticism.”

“I kind of get the nostalgia and cultural attachment. I was at midnight launches for the books as a kid and watched the films more times than I can count. But it's very weird to say ‘This thing I liked as a child, and everything adjacent to it no matter how immoral, is infallible,’" he added.

In September 2023, he wrote, “If you are an adult who loses their mind at the concept of pronouns, which everyone, everywhere, throughout all of history has used every single day, there is something wrong with your life but it's not what you think it is. The Wokes aren't out to get you. You're just a clown.”

“I honestly feel sad when I see people who have very clearly lost the ability to think because they have been swallowed whole by some inane grift,” he continued. “It is absurd that people can be so far gone that they will publicly go berserk at the sight of the word ‘they,’ or even just ‘pronoun.’"

“This isn't really a new or even worthwhile observation, but people online are way too obsessed with other people's lives and choices. Who gives a shit what anyone else is doing once they're content and not harming anyone. Let people be happy and mind your own business,” he concluded.

How does that quote about the Netflix series work? They made good and bad changes but still love the source material the books?

That is some backassward thinking. it is a slap in the face if you have to make sweeping changes that don't really work.

My best go to example of great changes from books to movies are first and foremost the Lord Of the Rings Series. And also The Expanse.

Both made some things different to translate the books to screne but they still held the spirit of the soure material.

You can read the rest here:

You left out the worst part, he defended the complete breaking of lore in the Netflix Witcher series.

Which means expect more of the same in the Witcher 4.

Even if he’s right, what’s the upside of antagonizing your customers?
This is the political worldview they have adopted, and it affects everything they do. If you can't wrap your head around this after the past 5-10 years, I don't know what to say. It's just so obvious. The only thing you can do is avoid it.

Even when it comes to games, it's not like, "oh they put in this XYZ woke element, so just ignore that and it's fine." It's the entire structure of everything they put out. Witcher 4 is going to be woke as hell, if you still want to play it, fine, but it is what it is. They're telling you beforehand.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Can probably talk to many in any industry and how they some times feel for their customers is similar. Many probably said "I hate tourists" or whatever a lot, but clearly it doesn't apply to everyone (and everyone in the world can be a tourist) and there are upsides or they'd have changed industries.

There is a big difference. If you're in the service industry, and have to deal with people face to face all the time, face all kinds of insults and unreasonable demands, of course you are going to encounter many jerks and dislike many of the people you serve as a result.

He's not in that type of industry, he's in an industry where his role doesn't require him to have any direct contact with the people who buys the product. For him to hate the customer is a completely different type of mentality. He hates them not because they did something to him, he hates them in principle for being what they are.

"I hate gamers, hate video games, and have a severe personality disorder that I publicize at every opportunity."

"You're hired!"
I read guitar magazines sometimes and I imagine reading an article in there where the guy is like “I hate guitarists so much and want to punch them.”, “guitarists are dead.” Of course I would never read that because it’s totally insane. Yet for some reason gamers are fine with these types not just writing about the games they play but making them too. And then they automatically simp for these lunatics and their games when people quote them. It’s totally crazy.

If someone hates the industry and the costumer base so much, why is he working here.
Find a job, where you don't hate your client base. Stop being so hateful, and live life.
Not to mention that it's so fucking stupid to stereotype people into a collective "gamers". As if all people who play games have the same ideas or actions. That's the dumbest thing these people don't realise. They say they're against stereotypes yet stereotype the worst.

Exactly.
There are around 3.2 Billion gamers in the world. Of all races, religions, political views, nationalities, social stratus, etc.
For any rational person, it would e obvious that it's impossible to lump all these people into one single stereotype, just because they happen to play videogames.
But people like this guy, are filled with hate. And because of that, he tries to pretend that everyone is bad. So he lies and distorts reality, as to insult everyone he hates.

To blow of steam, people just shit post on the internet without thinking of consequences. The culture of researching for receipts in an effort to cancel people is still relatively new. Hopefully once people are done with getting back at the “other” side for doing it we can all move on from this toxic mindset.

These people also think that all white men are the same even if they come from different places, familiar situations, etc, it is called having turds for brains.

Personally, i use gamer as an abbreviation for people who play videogames, there is no secret, badly veiled second meaning behind it.

It's like using gunplay instead of saying "everything that is relative to guns handling, hit reactions, weapon variety etc.", it's just fucking easier to just say gunplay :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

A lot of people say this shit to get jobs. It's clearly very profitable. These people get hired and move up in their careers easily.

But... after reading the Heretic thread, he does have a point.

He sounds like your typical "I must defend those who are offended by stuff they make up or purposely twist to fit their narrative, all while ignoring reality and logic" type of person with a hero complex.
People like that should know, you can help make certain people's lives better by saying no or challenging them.

It's all the same people, all the time, making up their own scenarios that are based on real problems elsewhere. They then, non-surprisingly, are the ones "solving" these problems, therefore that makes feel like battled hate and won, then the cycle continues.

Then just to add, people who claim everything is "woke" are just as imbalanced mentally, but on the other extreme side. You are as exhausting to read or listen to.

I didn't see any "wokeness" in the trailer, it got me pumped actually. Looking forward to it unless there is hard evidence that the game will be a mess, and I don't think it will.

I don't understand, isn't CD Projekt Red a Polish company? Why are they hiring all of these British/American weirdos? Why is a Polish company making games based on Polish books hiring some Irish guy based in Dublin to be their 'lore master'?

They started out as that, the they went public, and became just another global corporation, ran by the same type of people who run all the other global corporations.

Also, just deadlifted 220kg raw grip no straps a few hours ago and I'm tired, so please wait at least a day, then you can come to be castrated by my chad hand. 😎

Man, what the hell is going on with talent recruitment in the gaming industry?

What kind of business has this become where they bring in the worst out there and put them on projects costing hundreds of millions of dollars?

That’s why, even though I got hyped by The Witcher 4 trailer, my bets are still on the game from the new studio made up of The Witcher 3 veterans the game called The Blood of Dawnwalker, where even the lead writer is working on it.

And well done on the dealifts, Ive done martial arts and grappled most my life so hopefully that help me from being castrated lol.
