CDkeys are rebranding to 'Loaded' starting next month

NeoGAF's Physical Games Advocate Extraordinaire

After more than 10 years of selling digital game codes using a name that made sense when games were discs in a box, we've decided it's finally time to move on – we are rebranding.

So, with a mixture of sadness and excitement for the future, we are parting ways with the CDKeys identity.

Much like the floppy disc, DVDs, and the dial-up tone, CDs are a thing of the past. The term belongs to the era of the Spice Girls and Limp Bizkit.

And as a result, CDKeys sounded dry and dated.

It's 2025, and we want something bolder, brighter, better.

That's why we're changing our name to Loaded – and it's not just to sound cool – it tells you all you need to know about what we do.

Starting in September, CDKeys will be Loaded. We'll be free to be who we want to be, and we're going to have a good time..

And yes, we are aware of the irony of referencing a song from the 90's that references a movie from the 60's to describe the future! Still slaps today.

Not sure what they were thinking with this rebrand. I'll just keep calling them cdkeys, lol.

My theory is that the founders are loaded now and this is just a stealth humble brag, because their explanation somehow makes even less sense to me.

I can accept the decision.

I went to therapy and talked it out and after some consistently constructive but critical calm and collected consideration collectively, we accepted it.

CDkeys man...

They are still going to sell keys right? they are easily one of the best "key sites" on the internet

Edit: Ok just a rebrand. The new name is STUPID but whatever

What's funny is saying "CDKeys" is dated, but then you decide on "Loaded"?

At least you'd read or hear the name, and know exactly what it is. Can't say the same about "Loaded", right off the bat I'd feel like it's an energy drink or a supplement before a key site, lmao.

But, whatever. As long as their deals stay the same it really doesn't matter and I'll still give them business. I'm sure others will too. I just don't understand who comes up with these things and/or why they think they're a good idea, lmao.

Seems dumb to let go of a well established brand name. Who cares if it doesn't make that much sense in the current context, people already know what Cdkeys is , I doubt anyone actually cares why they are called that.

But as long as the pricing and trustworthiness doesn't change who cares.

Think picked up around 11 games last time i was there for pennies. Will I ever play them? Who cares at that price but they are nice haves in the library. I think Mad Max was £1.50 for example.
Yeah I will shop for games under $2 sometimes and go WOW this one is .75 cents done. Mad Max is def worth the price of a soda! Used them for many years and they are exceptional in all ways.

CDKeys was a perfect name IMO. They literally used to sell keys grabbed from boxed Turkish copies when CD was the medium of choice and resell online. The name is on the tin and a practice which is disappearing.
We still often use Floppy disks as the symbol for loading and they haven't been relevant for decades.

I think their reason is a lie lol, I feel like they're just trying to distance themselves from being a 'grey-market' CD key reseller.
I've used them for over 10 years, I'm gonna have to remember the name change now lol.

I don't know a lot about business but this doesn't seem like a good idea. Tons of people are going to miss this message and next time they go to CDKeys.com they'll think something shady (outside the usual) is happening. Throwing your brand recognition away on a whim is certainly a decision.
