Resident Evil Requiem Gamescom Previews are starting to roll in

Another damned raytracing game that can't do mirrors properly and once again this wastes player's time with empty locations. I have played indie horror games with more engaging design.

Is it me or Capcom has been milking the first 20 minutes of the game for 3 months now ? There is nothing to see here, nothing to talk about. Except the "main" character that's pretty insufferable.

Looks great - Capcom always delivers. I wish they'd pick a lane on first-person vs third with this series. Both are great I just want the game to be tailored to a specific experience. Trying to please everyone always results in a compromised product.

Im really sick of these kinds of beginnings and stalker enemies. Why can't we get straight to the point mate like in all the og games, Handgun from the get go. I already hated mrx being in the first playtrough of re2r, which also sucked.

She even works for the fbi and is trained in basic combat, so what the fuck is this shit with crapcom rehearsing the same crap over and over again.

It's shit. Done.

Looks great... But I want to see the combat... RE without guns isn't RE for me.

this may be the best resident evil to date for some ppl here.

Capcom has a pretty weird news cycle for their games.
  1. show absolutely nothing new for months besides the same sections;
  2. radio silence;
  3. show almost everything about the game close to launch.

Just get it over with and take the helpless, bumbling protagonist to its logical conclusion. Set the next game in a haunted nursing home where you control an 89 year old lady for that real helpless immersion.

Death animation:

Looks like gory deaths are back.

Edit: Talking about back in the mainline series. I know RE4R was gory.

Looks a bit weird, especially with how easily her head falls off, but I'll take it.

Nah, seeing her stumble and freak out added waaaaay more to the experience to me than the typical floating camera. This video just confirmed 3rd person is the way to go for me
This, its biggest reason why I dont like first person mode, it never felt right.....I need to see proper character animation, to me thats way more immersive.

Not sure if Capcom is woke for making a female playable character, or not woke for making her an attractive frightened weakling... are both sides mad?
What? so having playable female character is woke? I'm really getting very confused what woke is at this point.

I believe this is a flashback? In the first trailer for the game, she was clearly an adult; looks like she's in high school here, so not in the FBI/no training yet.

Yeah, it feels like this is meant to be something that has happened before the first trailer takes place, where she's at work. I have to think Capcom are holding a lot back, since we've seen what feels like two hallways so far, and that's it.

It seems to be the primary problem people have with a number of other games (Ghost of Yotei, Witcher 4) but I'm just wondering why nobody seems to be throwing a fit here?
I can only speak for myself my I have zero issue playing as female character, my most of my issue is I dont play ugly looking character male or female.

Even then I dont think "ugly" character has anything to do with "woke" or I'm completely miss understanding what woke is.

????

Resident Evil has had female playable characters since day 1 and this character would be considered rather plain or average looking compared to Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Sheva, etc/

Still...they said to have tone down the scary atmosfear in RE8 compared RE7 because average Joe can't handle it then looking at RE9 seems they changed again their mind. I don't know if I can beat it in first person.

Looks like an indie horror game. Is this really the most expensive Capcom game ever?
I fail to see how that's true, assuming the leaker is spreading misinformation. The scale of budget and number of employees that worked on RE6 dwarfs any current Capcom projects. RE6 put Capcom's entire finance on jeopardy in 2012 because it didnt sell enough, even though it sold 2 million copies in first week. Thats how expensive the game was and I doubt they are going to repeat the same risk.

While this looks great, and has amazing atmosphere, looked like shit from the gameplay side. It's the slowest/worst parts of RE7. I preferred 8 gave us an arsenal of tools and combat, but still managed to have some creepy moments.

They better not be making a game with little to no combat. If so I'm totally out. They can keep it.

Now that you mention it, Grace is really doing it for me. It's the same dorky scared pixie thing Rebecca has going. Both of them are 10/10

This is Alien Isolation 2 and I am here for it.
I was thinking the same. The stalked disappearing and thumping through the walls to travel, throwing carts Grace, and being scared of light sources are all already huge improvements on past RE stalkers. For once, proper hunting AI.

If you haven't played it btw, check out Amnesia: The Bunker. Alien Isolation 2 was already made.

I guess we're never getting animations for opening drawers, they just open magically like you have force powers.

The game is looking great to me but I'm not sure about the creature. Kind of looks goofy looking. Is this scary?

Nah. I don't think so. The new trailer yesterday is a flashback. And they refer to this flashback at the FBI in the announcement trailer. This gameplay is when she takes up the assignment to go back there. Grace has been established as an introverted workaholic analyst. Witnessing her mother's death plays a big part in that. She neither has the physical nor mental capacity for fieldwork. May be she will learn to cope with what's happening and start picking up weapons, or somebody else.... cough... Leon... cough... will step in to make the game action focused. I'm willing to bet money that this game isn't going to be alien isolation-esque all the way.

A game like this was never going to work in both first and third person and it's already showing. Third person doesn't look good at all.

There are already a number of people commenting that they're going to prefer playing third person based on what they saw, so I can't agree with this.

Looks pretty good, I do like the stalker enemies like Mr.X and Nemesis. But I also hope having no weapons and sneaking around would only be in a very small part of the game.

I hope most if not all the locations would be pretty explorable like the locations from RE1, RE2, RE3, RECV. And please no shiny item drops from enemies you killed.

NP, enjoy man. I wish I could play it blind for the first time again. Peak horror
You see, i m the one who want to be scared, i want to be immerse, i dont wanna see a digital girl been scared in my place, thats why first person ll always be better on horror games than third.

Imagine If P.T was third person, would be a disgrace.

Yep the vast majority of RE players prefer OTS third person for RE games.

Basically the devs really wanted RE9 to be first person like RE7 but realize 90% of the players prefer third person so he included a third person mode.

I agree on being more scared being the goal. I don't agree on first being more immersive. It feels off. PT was scary, yes. It had nothing on Silent Hill at its scariest. It was an unnerving tech demo, but it never had me paralyzed in fear like the rest of the series.

The scariest games I've ever played are Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, Dead Space, and Alien Isolation. AI mostly because the Xeno AI was relentless. Resident Evil 2 was also waaaaay scarier than 7 or 8. When all of the scariest games I've experienced are third person, I can't see how the floating camera helps.

IMO seeing a character in the situation actually get hurt and be in danger is more immersive vs the red screen flash when you get hurt in first person.

Not to mention them trying to develop a whole third person mode as DLC for 8. They know what we want. At this point, there's only one strictly first person RE.

Yeah it's been pretty much established with all the clutter on her desk that she never leaves her cubicle and Grace is in for a bad time returning to this hotel. Gets kidnapped and wakes up in some kind of Sanitarium or Asylum. Probably a setup.

It's been shown in a small clip back in June she will eventually acquire at least a handgun. I think people are overreacting and are just big mad that it isn't another dudebro horror shooter and aren't able to run around as H.U.N.K. and take names.

Yeah the best horror/immersion/action ratio are still the original RE1 to RE3 plus their remake versions.

4 to 6 went too far into action ratio with ammo drops and RE7 went too far into horror with sections like the intro/vhs tapes.

RE9 is currently looking to be leaning towards RE7 which is no surprise since the same guy who did 7 is doing it but I think it should still be at the very least a decent amount better than RE7 due to having cooler settings, third person, and ingame cutscenes showing your characters. Now they just gonna focus on making some fun explorable locations and a more fun combat ratio compared to RE7 which is very easy to do and it'll be a great RE game that's much better than RE7 at the very least.

I'm down for stalker sections like this but I'm hoping it's a 50/50 with the action-heavy Leon portions and that his presence is substantial
I hope Leon shows up like 5 minutes into the stalking, blows away monster-Alyssa with a rocket launcher, and drops a one liner while Grace cries like
