CDPR officially apologises for hiding the console versions and promises quick updates and refund option

Sorry we gave you 2 cups of flour, a raw egg, a stick of butter, a teaspoon of cocoa, and a cup of sugar when you actually ordered the chocolate torte. But we promise if you hang around for the hour, we will beat that egg, then later tomorrow we intend a massive update to mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, followed by the baking of the cake later in the week. We appreciate that having a cake in its final form is important to you and we promise to deliver on the dessert as described in the menu. Should you wish to forgo your dessert this evening and not extend this Saturday night dinner into a 5 day long event, we humbly offer a refund, because your patronage and delivering on promises matters most to us.

good on them but the salty little kids have made their minds up.

i've been enjoying the game since day 1. the game looks amazing and runs smoothly for me on PC. if they are gonna make it better then shiiit i'm happy with that. while they work on these patches i'll be busy enjoying the game.

maybe look at yourselves if you're so mad. sure CDPR could've handled this better but a lot of the blame still goes to the people stupid enough to preorder.

So gamers are to blame? Wow that's some stupid statement.

The whole braindance section was so underwhelming, I couldn't wait for it to be over and down with, it was like the longest tutorial ever. Boring as hell!

Legit one of the most boring parts of the game.

They might as well make it a fucking cut scene and give us the information on what they are showing vs "here, why don't you do the thing that I do best, but ima show you how to do this instead of fucking show you a VIDEO TAPE OF THE ACTUAL SCENE just because....."

It felt so forced and silly, like they don't need to do anything this to convey this information to V.... like zero.

CDPRs defense force here is simply pathetic.

Yes they have done a lot of good, but here they released a trash version of a game, scammed fans and now get the deserved backlash.

What I learned most from following the game industry for long time is that some companies can get a free pass for anything they throw at you (CD project, Rockstar, Nintendo, Steam) while others can be massacred for the slightest blunders (all others)

Its good that they apologized but I wish they handled the launch a little better, this launch remindes me of Fallout 4.

Seems that way. Games like WWE2K20, Remothered: Broken Porcelain and Fallout 76 were ripped apart for example for being glitchy, broken, questionable quality, etc. I think CDPR will bounce back from this, but they probably did some damage to their reputation for quite some time.

I KNEW something was suspicious when they didn't allow recent footage or reviews of the last generation console versions.

Very well said...

People are actually using the defense of: "Well, they released the game on 8 year old hardware. What did you expect?".
Jesus Christ, the game was announced before said "outdated hardware" was even launched. It's not their fault CD Project can't optimize a game to save their lives.
This is even more egregious when you consider CD Project themselves admitted they fucked up.

At what point will you, simpering cunts, stop making excuses for them? This is the same shit that happened with Obsidian every time they released a half-finished piece of shit.

11 year old hardware.

Yes, let reality sink in

The first problem I see with this factual observation is that it was CD Projekt RED which decided to nonetheless release the game on those base consoles and kept that decision all the way up to launch. Nobody but themselves made and kept the decision, no doubt because of sound business reasons, but still it was their decision alone. They cannot expect to reap the rewards - sales - and escape unscathed by the state the actual product launched in - the backlash.

The second potential problem I see is that games like RDR2 or GTAV did launch on the same hardware. Granted, technically I have no real idea how these compare, but purely from a game design standpoint, there doesn't seem to be an awful lot CP20777 is doing those two Rockstar titles didn't do themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were simply running out of money and had to bring in the dough. I also don' know how much the marketing costs amount to, but I would be interested in reviewing hard data about the sales impact of deals with social media influencers and Keanu. If indeed, they simply had to generate cashflow to keep afloat, this again might suggest mismanagement at some point in the process.

Let's see how they react.

They released the game broken because they couldn't hit their deadline or delay it again, and people are praising them for this?

I wonder why the gaming industry is in the states it's in 🤔

It's not an apology if you already planned it in advance in the whole lets hide the console version.

They balanced all outcomes and hiding and lying to console customers to later apologise resultes in more profit than showing the console true performance and eat a massive preorder cancelations.

Guys, I was just wondering, how on earth did they come up with a plan to release it in April of 2020? Back then, there was neither PS5 nor Xbox Series S/X around.
It was only base consoles and enhanced consoles. Even by December 2020 they couldn't make the game run in a serviceable manner on base consoles, now they're issuing a public apology, to boot.
I mean just to think April 2020... They should have delayed the game for next year, altogether.

1 Billion % this.

Wtf where they going to do if Sony and MS delayed their launches of systems because of the RONAz? Then what? Suddenly you fucking NEED new systems for your game to work that you told us about since 2012, trailer shown in 2013, gameplay shown in 2018 but for fuck sakes its Sony and MS's fault?

Imagine releasing this in April this year or even same time in fall this year with no PS5 and Series X.

What where they going to say to sub 720p and 15 and even 10 fps drops? The fuck? The systems are weak?

Imagine saying that shit and you are sandwiched between Watchdogs Legion, AC Valhalla, Call Of Duty, Ghost Of Tsushima, The Last Of Us 2, Doom Eternal, Nioh 2 etc yet hey LAST GEN SYSTEMS can't work except for everyone else making a AAA game

LOL. You're still a joke just like the rest of the chodes that make up Doom Patrol. You're more interested in bitching versus playing.

The game was always going to be buggy and a challenge on-base consoles. This is the reality with any AAA game these days, especially one this ambitious. But these things get fixed. Honestly, I'm not playing on super high-end hardware on PC (still waiting for the 3070/3080Ti cards to drop) but frankly despite the odd bug here and there I'm having an absolute blast with it, playing the storyline, exploring the systems trying out different things. There's a lot to like about it, and much like NMS, it's only going to get better the more CDP work on it. Try looking at the glass half-full versus half-empty and maybe your life will be less wretched as a result.

I don't believe any of you genuinely give an actual shit about the issues tbh. I think you're more interested in 'Drama' because the truth is you have no passion for the medium as a whole. Thus why you spent an inordinate amount of time in the leaks thread jumping on this, that and whatever to satisfy your need, whereas everyone else was kind of 'looks buggy, but pretty good otherwise'.

There's one good side to all this, the price of the game is gonna fucking drop like a rock so anyone that's in no hurry to play it they can pick up a copy for peanuts and wait till the actual fixes drop. Current gen games drop in price fast enough but with so much neg press this ones gonna drop fast.

Promised an incredible RPG with branching storylines, tons of choices, incredibly NPC AI

Delivered an action adventure game where your choices matter little, AI is dumber than GTA Vice City

I won't even bring Skyrim's AI here, just compare this to Red Dead Redemption 2, where NPC's have actual lives, respond to your actions organically, cities are bustling with action and tiny things you won't even notice, etc.

Runs like ass on base consoles even if there's nothing there that justifies that performance

This company really has infinite credit. They could have released a loading screen and some people would have praised the game for it's innovative approach to loading screens.

Edit: Even though we've grown accustomed to bugs and I may excuse most of them, nothing excuses the horrible AI subsystem, dead open world (NPC counts being high on PC doesn't mean the world is alive) and lack of actual RPG elements (skill trees are not RPG elements on their own)

As long as they hold their hands up (they have) and then fix things (hopefully they will) then it's all good.

People still ragging on them for apologising sound like the people on Era who dragged celebrities over the coals for something they did wrong, and then apologised - but too late, they are the devil and must be cancelled!

Life's too short to be feeling so bitter over a videogame. I'm waiting to see how XSX version looks and play before buying for that or PC. I'm in no hurry.

edit: I'm not defending them btw - no way it should have released in its current state on last gen.

This is true. CDPro fucked up, they acknowledge it and offer refunds.

Call me crazy, but I feel that this game should of been exclusive to the PS5/XSX and the PC. I know they want that last generation money, but it seems like the game suffered because of it.

Maybe even developed two version along side each other which I know sounds even crazier due to the manpower and resources probably required to do that. One exclusively for last generation that is built for the hardware and one that can truly harness the power of current generation architecture and capabilities.

They really should have cancelled last gen versions but you can see it was a struggle between ambition and money.

50% of your sales come from consoles and new gen obviously does not have the same install base. Yet at the same time old consoles cannot create the world that CDRED wants to present.

I played the game on PS5 (so PS4Pro) version to compare vs my PC version and I'll be honest, if I didn't play it on PC already I would say the game looks and runs great. Resolution is low but I'm getting good frames. Next gen patch will be fantastic.

They're only doing this because their share price tanked. They knew full well what they were releasing. Indeed they only released it because of shareholder expecatation/pressure. Glad they have egg on their faces. Had they delayed it i doubt the share price fall would've been 30%.

Of course they did. They should considering how last-gen was handled. Hell, the game in general.

I'm having a great time on PC, but I know some people haven't been as lucky. :(

I really wonder what OG PS4 and Xbone owners expected though. You have seen the trailers, gameplay footage etc. No way the consoles version will look like that. From the get go I knew the console versions were fucked. I would never pre order.

An argument could be those people never watched any footage but then I wonder what made you buy the game?

I would not feel offended if someone called me a CDPR fanboy, I've been following the studio for 16 years (seriously), loved every game they made so far, but defending them in this situation I cannot understand. Not that a lot of people are doing this, but still.

It was their decision to choose what platform they develop for, they have been developing for PS4/X1 from the very beginning, and at the end they simply said things which were not true. And it was their decision to set the release date (and make it a single date instead of 2nd), and not drop the last gen (understandably, but if it cannot run this, why make fools of themselves?).

You don't even have to go into what was cut out from the game to feel pissed off. Ultimately, IMO, the product, when it is working, is fantastic, so a lot of that cut out stuff was cut out for a good reason or does not matter that much (though the lack of cyber psychosis threat, or shourtcuts regarding city AI hurt), but that doesn't matter. I really, really feel sorry that a lot of people launched the game not only to see it looks like shit (and that could be explained by the age of the hardware), but also is unplayable (and that cannot be excused in any way, because it is simply not a working product when frame rate drops below 20, and the bugs are so serious...).

And PC is also far from finished. I had so many crashes I lost count, I keep saving not because I don't want to die unexpectedly but because it can crash even when driving around the city. But then you have the story, writing, sidequests, characters, attention to details, character progression and gameplay - and all this core of the game is really, really superb, easy 10/10 for me. It also IMO shows that the game if optimized properly would defend itself on the consoles, because even if you ignore the graphics (and man it can look good), what remains can be outstanding.

So I also feel sorry for the developers, because seeing their hard work in this state must be infuriating. And I suppose they very well knew what is comming. Pondsmith must be also disappointed.

All in all I may be a fanboy but it only makes me hope they survive this and be able to continue and improve in the future. And that they patch this game so it works as it is supposed to. When you release one title every couple of years you really have to depend on it. I know I want a sequel, improved in every possible way - just as they did with the witcher series.

LMAO they knew all this was gonna happen, they just took the risk because, why not? I mean, the alternatives were more or equally bad but they wouldn't get the money

I also agree that it was calculated - I mean there is no chance that 100% people would return the game. Hell, I doub't even 50% will return. So ... they get some money in the end... but the reputation...

Their reputation will be almost cleaned after they deliver properly and people start liking the game, gamers lack memory, they did the same exact think with TW3, the difference is that TW3 doesn't seem to be as big as CP2077.

Heck, it's actually an industry-wide issue at different scales, let's say it was less of a problem this gen but back in 7th gen it was more common, yet nobody waits for reviews "CAUS IM TOO HYPEDDD!!!111"

CDPR deserves every bit of criticism they get, and it should be even bigger than that.

Ubisoft and Bethesda sometimes gets hate for games more polished than CP2077. But since those two are supposed to be gaming-LexCorp with their "evil" CEOs, the its okay.

"Poor CDPR, they gave Yennefer alternative look for free back in 2015 :("

They literally admit to deceiving gamers on console and is prepared to issue refunds yet there is still people in this thread defending them AND,
It's gamers fault for buying the game on 7 year old consoles.
LOL.

Let that sink in.
Yeah, CDPR gets a free pass apparently. Imagine the shitstorm if this was made by EA.

CDPR defence force is shook. The fuck you gonna say now Don Jorginho et al. Suckers
First things first, tag me if you wanna throw dirt, quite a cowardly move to go for someone when they're not looking no?

Secondly, I never once said the game wasn't a shitshow on last gen consoles, it's inexcusable and CDPR should apologize and offer full refunds to those users, I was talking about my experience on the PS5 which has been great and I've adored the 25 hours I've spent so far.

The game is not perfect in how it runs, I never said it was and no game really is, of course there are minor bugs that need fixing and major ones I have not ran into yet, my opinion yesterday was simply based off my PS5 experience which was very smooth and enjoyable.

Stop aimlessly hating on the game and trying to make people who are enjoying it feel wrong for doing so. That's pretty shitty of you.

Nice of them to apologize and recognize things publicly, but it falls flat since they knew it was in this condition and shipped it anyways. There's no excuse for shipping the console versions in the condition they are in. If they needed 3 months more to put out patches to fix the basic issues they should have shipped it 3 months later. Someone wanted to get paid now, make a holiday deadline and decided to kick it out anyways.

It would also be nice if they could say when the next gen patch is beyond saying "next year".

Cool good on them.

Playing on PS5 and absolutely love the experience honestly I have no idea what all the crying is all about. Keep hearing how is this game is "buggy" and "unfninished" but 10 hours in this is about as buggy as Fallout 4. Does anyone remember Bethesda apologizing for that game? No!

Neogaf developers please don't scale back yourself because of 8 year old hardware. Developer does this neogaf why did you not scale back your game for 8 year old hardware. You can't write this stuff lol.

Don't say that! MrS MrS will label you a CDPR Defender if you claim you're enjoying the game on PS5!

I'll accept their apology as genuine when they fire all the corporate slime at the top.

There's a lot of talent at CDPR but there is also some bad decision making too. They could do with a shake up but as it's more than likely to be at the top I doubt it'll happen any time soon.

The bugs are no problem, those will be fixed.

What really worries me is the bad enemy AI, the non existent drivers AI, the police which teleports behind you the instant you commit a crime because they lack the AI to chase you.

Also the bad RPG mechanics, where most of the tree are useless passives that grant almost no bonus, the broken crafting, the loot system straight from Borderlands... And so on.

Yeah, Cyberpunk might be a good game, but by no means have the delivered on their initial promises.

So it's fans fault for wanting to play it , not the mess the dev team made during the 5 to 7 years of production .got it .
There is wanting to play it and death threats over the delays. The delays for base console performance. That should of told people it would perform like shit on base consoles. I said long ago I upgraded for this game. Looking back I was 100% right. This is this generations mordor this should tell people don't expect a lot from base consoles anymore.

No one looks to show off an inferior version of your product. I don't get the outcry most people with any sense would know this game would have major issues on consoles that are 7 years old.

The game is brilliant and I bet people with the most to say are the ones who haven't played it.

It's not inferior on last gen, it's broken.

They didn't let anyone see it, including reviewers, before release. And they did so because they knew it was broken.

That's lame.
