CDPR officially apologises for hiding the console versions and promises quick updates and refund option

No they aren't just the store, they are the platform holder. When you buy a game that has the PS4 label on it, you assume that Sony has checked it to ensure a certain level of quality and that gives you confidence in the platform. If any shitshow game can get the platform label (not compromising or breaking the hardware is an incredibly low bar) then confidence of the platform will deteriorate.

That's not how any of this works. It never has.

CDPR deserves every ounce of flack they receive and they deserve to be viewed differently after this debacle.

They knew their console versions were trash, but released it anyways. This is why they had strict controls on what could be shown or not shown for reviews. This was all known. The excuse of "not focusing enough" on the console version during development is also nonsense. The game was in development for almost a decade....

And they were NEVER going to delay the game again past 2020. Why? They have financials to meet. So they basically took the risk to sell it on console as-is, because they knew the first few days sales would be strong — that is until people realize their console version is basically trash. They wanted to take in as much cash as possible before the eventual fallout. They've already recouped their investment into the game.

And the concession about refunds is a show. Good luck returning a game on console digitally with a few exceptions and especially good luck returning an open box video game back to a retailer.

This is a total failure due to greed and incompetence. It's also a PR nightmare for them.

And I say good. I am tired of game companies shipping product that is half-assed knowingly and then lying about it and offering false concessions.

Fuck them.

If they crush Witcher 4 and release it for free, I will forgive

I have heard stories over the years of games getting rejected by Nintendo and having to be fixed/changed before they would be accepted. Most notably any religious stuff was not allowed in NES and SNES games in NA. So it must have been more than a Nintendo tax.
Content changes and rejections were never related to code quality and game performance. Not allowing some types of content was a Nintendo morality policy, just like no blood in Mortal Kombat.

2017-2020

"We forgot to make sure it ran good on Current Gen"

Over 10 years of goodwill gone in a poof
I keep hearing good will, but pretty much every game CDPR ever released was in a bad state at launch....Witcher 1, Witcher 2, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077.....At what point would we call them out to push a polished product at launch instead of gamers waiting years for them to fix it and still not entirely.......How many times must we accept that the polished product is the enhanced edition or GOTY version years later?

CDPR taking time in working on their buggy games after they launch cannot be termed as good-will....Good will is giving me a polished product on initial release, or perhaps giving us free DLC after a polished launch, not this.....It's a trend fromt hem which is being nipped in the bud...Bethesda got away with similar jank for years till they released their magnum opus of jank with Fallout 76......At this point people were like, enough is enough "this stops here"......This is CDPR's turn and I don't think you will se miraculous fixes to the game in a hurry.....Witcher 3 patching took almost two years, they took their time, every new patch broke other things. CDPR is not as technically savvy as some have praised them to be, I think it was mostly PC fans propping them up before they made their console debut.....I only have respect for devs who can give us a competent console product alongside their PC version...That's a sign of developer competence across all platforms.....Sadly CDPR is not even close to the best PC dev with patchy Ryzen and RDNA 2 support, spotty config files etc....

Email reply from PlayStation this morning after contacting them about a refund for my PS4 Pro copy:

Thank you for contacting PlayStation.

CD Projekt Red is currently working on patches and updates to fix bugs and crashes, and to improve overall gameplay experience of Cyberpunk 2077.

Please visit https://en.cdprojektred.com/ for information on any patches or updates to Cyberpunk 2077.

Oh well. Stuck with a broken game for god knows how long.
Never will I ever support CD Projekt Red for as long as I live.

EDIT: I'm really pissed off with this whole situation.

Well, I loved Witcher 3 on base PS4 so I can only speak from my experience

Trying to get a non-automated response from Sony leads to having an aneurysm

so they didn't even contact Sony about refunds and just told customers to request refunds from Sony / MS, now customers are angry at Sony/ MS and not CDPR? master con artists

Funny enough it worked. I even saw a Sony fan yesterday get angry at Sony because of this whole refund Fiasco...

Yet I think where Sony will hurt these poor releases more is to not certify them or give them the green light, that would hurt CDPR much more and they would ensure that their console products are up to par on release.....

Funny, If this is the game after so many delays, after 7 years, how was this game on console in 2018 or 2019 or even 6 months ago? Shudders......

Think I'm done with this game until the next gen patch on PS5. Still crashing occasionally and just flat out annoying. Only game I have had this many issues with on console ever. It's good fun but not worth having to reload every hour or so.

CDPR apologizes for intentionally misleading people into buying a broken product, apologizes and then moves on to remove Devotion (survival horror game) from GOG to appease the Chinese government. This ladies and gentlemen is a lesson on how to go from a well-liked consumer focused company to the most hated company in the game industry in one week. Whoever is making decisions should be fired and blacklisted from ever holding a position of power again.

Try the playstation support livechat. I got a refund for Dirt 5 a few weeks ago on there cause it kept crashing and corrupted my save. Gave it a shot and it worked!

I drunkenly got sucked into pre ordering one game on Black Friday (at a good price)

But you have to pre order PS5 and XSX
Nah, I won't even order a new console online because of the reports of delivery people (UPS, Fed EX) stealing them. I'll just wait until there are on store shelves, no rush for me.

And another email from CDPR:

Dear gamer,

This is confirmation that we have received your assistance request for refunding a console copy of Cyberpunk 2077. As this email was sent automatically, we kindly ask you not to reply. We'll get back to you as soon as possible, no later than by the end of 2020, with information regarding next steps.

If you own a digital copy of the game on Xbox, visit this Xbox support article for details on how to refund. If you own a digital copy on PlayStation, please wait for us to get back to you. For help with other Cyberpunk 2077-related matters, please visit our Technical Support website.

The technical glitches plaguing CD Projekt SA's Cyberpunk 2077 game have cut more than $1 billion off the wealth of the company's founders. Perhaps more seriously, the quality-first image of the studio has been shaken, and may not be easy to win back.

Worth a thread imo. I expect some leadership shakeups will take place

This could all have been prevented if they just canceled the last-gen versions and worked on next-gen + PC.

Thread worthy but there may be some that think too many Cyberpunk threads on the main page.

Install base of current gen is too large to ignore. They should have just downscaled the game accordingly. Though who knows how that would have affected their vision of the game.
I expect massive downgrades in the coming months on base consoles.

Do people who write headlines know that stocks have bidirectional movement? Because 5 million times 60 bucks is not USD 1 billion.

I am in no rush, if I can't get one for another year then maybe any hardware issues will be worked out. Right now, there isn't much of a next gen library anyway. I still hate scalpers for removing so many from the market for people who just want to play games on them.

Same boat.

I'll get Series X next year when available and by the time that happens, the next gen patch might be out, and it looks like about 3 more patches scheduled by CD.

You never know. By Mar or April, next gen 2077 might be awesome.

And even better for buyers (no diff to me as my buddy already bought it as we home share), the game will probably be on deal for $40.

You have every right to be upset. You've been sold a defective product and can't get a refund. Personally, I think CDPR should face class action lawsuits over this. They even admitted to hiding the console versions of the game. It's the most obvious case of false advertising I think I've ever seen.

I think any developer that does this shit should be sued info oblivion. Fuck 'em.

I can't imagine the situation if this had been a 1st party developer from either Xbox or PlayStation.
Can you imagine that. There'd be blood in the streets. So I don't understand why it seems like this whole thing is just a 'Sorry, our bad. We made a mistake' and all is forgiven. It definitely seems like it.

Anyhow I've calmed down and i'm not going to fight on with PS or CDPR any longer regarding this game. I'm stuck with it. They have my $60 and I won't get it back.

They piss off enough people and they will suffer the consequences.

All of the outrage and how many of you will not only buy the next CDPR game, but pre-order it? I am guessing a lot of people who are able to get refunds, purchase the game again at a later date.

Didn't they say to contact them directly about the PS4 version?
Contacted both PS and CDPR. Both send back automated responses.

I don't expect anything at this point. Made peace with that.

There are other games to play and if/when they manage to fix Cyberpunk to an acceptable state I will give it another go.
For now I'm watching heaps of tutorials on this game's systems because it seems quite complex, especially the body modding and stuff.

After making the ticket (2h after starting the game on the release day) and not getting any answer I've contacted Sony infoline (Poland) twice. First time there was some dude that just was citing Sony policy. Second time (today) there was a much nicer lady said that Sony still thinks what to do about those refund tickets and all refunds requests are being gathered to estimate the scale

If you ask me both companies (Sony and CDPR) are playing in waiting game. Christmas is next week and they know they need endure till christmass. Many people will give up after christmas/new year and that is their goal. I said that If I'll not get any answer up to 22.12 I'll call em and take legal actions.

Gonna see how it will work out. Also no answer from helpmerefund CDPR mail.

This was the game that was suppose to beat TLoU2 for game of the year?

If it released any earlier to qualify, It would have used SNES graphics.
