Cheap Arse Gaffer |Europe| We Need To Go Cheaper

Unless you're aware of the severe limitations and/or have an hard disk to spare (and able to fit it in, dunno if still possible with this model?) I advise you to avoid the 12GB models like a plague: remember that plenty PS3 games have not optional but mandatory installs, and quite big too in a number of titles. So yeah, it's not like buying an Arcade model (I actually own one, great deal thanks to this thread and user Phife Dawg btw!) or whatever cheapo X360 models. Again, you probably knew all of this already and I imagine you must have worked out a plan well suited for you, but who knows maybe I've helped another gaffer out in being a tiny bit more informed and I'd be very happy with that! :)

Yeah, I knew that already, but it's indeed good to point something like that out.
I have a 250GB one myself if I'm not mistaken, but it's nearly full and PS+ isn't helping either. So I'm tempted to get a 500GB model.
Wish it was easier to get a higher capacity HDD in there like it's with the 360.
I actually bought a Japanese slim that way and then bought a much cheaper EU 320GB one to put in there. :)

You need to buy a mounting bracket separately if you buy the 12GB version.
official HDD bracket
shitty third-party bracket (no rubber dampers, sharp knees)

(a bracket is already built in with the 500GB Super Slim)

Ordered Lego LOTR from Grainger Games at the weekend- it's just arrived, but it's the US version. Obviously the PS3 is region free, and it is a new (but unsealed copy) but I'm not happy they've done this.

Is this common practice for them?

I'm not sure. I went to one of their stores before, saw how bad their game conditions were and decided not to buy from them.

I've never noticed anything especially worse about their second hand stock compared to other stores. However now I think about it I've definitely seen US PS3 titles openly on sale in store, and possibly for other platforms. I think I'll avoid online purchases from them in future.

Edit: this thread claims they are being investigated by Trading Standards for such practices: http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/General-Discussion/Grainger-Games-Ltd-under-investigation/td-p/18916140

I ordered Katamari Forever from them a few years back and it was the US release that came through the door, new and unsealed. From what I've heard this happens quite a lot with GG.

Yeah, they sell US games as well as PAL ones for region free consoles. Usually on their site the games cover will show the T for Teen etc. logos instead of the 3, 7, 12, 15, 18, PEGI ones.

I've seen them stick PEGI stickers onto imports in store, although they seem completely random, I've seen games with a 18+ Sticker on when the PAL case next to it has a 12

Its a huge problem considering it means people can't obtain DLC

Yeah, I've seen that too. At least you can tell when you're holding the actual box instore though.

Nope, PEGI logo for Lego LOTR. Thankfully there is virtually no DLC for this title.

Well that sucks then. Can you not send it back and ask for a refund?

Yeah I've had a look. I have to contact the web team to arrange one. Not sure it's even worth the effort, so long as the game works and I can patch it.

Just got an email from Flubit. They're now only accepting links from Amazon.

Since launching just under a year ago we've processed hundreds of thousands of demands and created millions of pounds worth of savings!

So a big thank you to all our wonderful users for making that possible!

We like to get feedback, and one of the things you keep telling us is that we need to speed up and get offers out to you quicker.

We've listened and made some changes to make that happen.

From tomorrow, Wednesday 7th August, instead of being able to demand using any UK website, we're going to be asking you to do so only using products listed on Amazon.co.uk.

As it happens, the majority of our users already use Amazon for their Demands, so for most this will mean no change. By concentrating our efforts on beating the market leader, we'll be able to respond to most demands in just a few hours, much better right?

So instead of beating the cheapest price around they're now going to beat the market leader's price? With the tradeoff being a quicker response from their part. Doesn't sound like an improvement.

Any chance they will ever expand their services to the Euro mainland?

So I wonder something re:Flubit and the new Amazon delivery. Will Flubit only send things from Amazon? Or will it be beating an Amazon price but from whatever random retailer they stumble upon.

There goes me using Flubit anymore.
The trade off with sped up offers does sound good, but I can't help feel their profits/user base will shrink because of this.

As someone else said...it was good while it lasted!

Crap.

Amazon have rarely been the cheapest for new / pre-order games so knocking 10-15% off Amazon's price still isn't great. Quite disappointing as I was really happy with Flubit sending me ~£25 Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101.

Ah well, just going to have to go back to waiting for £18 Zavvi bombs again. :(

oh well.... silly company... truth is i got some games from game.co.uk from them.. so doing it like this doesnt help out the little guy either :(

Had a feeling this would of been discussed here. I really don't see how this benefits the customer side at all. From beating ANY price to beating only one. I've rarely ever put in an amazon link, and as for receiving items, only one has came from them. They get commission from each sale, so my guess is Amazon have given them a better deal in that regard, in exchange for exclusive rights. When you avoid tax like the plague, I guess that is easy to pull off. Oh well, was a good thing while it lasted. Hopefully people talk with their wallets so this thing gets pulled.

Aye, agree with the rest of you. Rarely, if ever, put a game from Amazon into Flubit.

Guess I'll be relying more on Zavvi 10% codes again now.

Thinking about ordering a 32gb card for my Vita from Amazon. £55 is kind of cheap and I guess it won¨t bet cheaper than that even if they release 64gb cards later on this year?

Picked up a cheap copy of Zombie U in Tesco today for a tenner.

Can't see it getting any cheaper than that, even though I don't own a WiiU, but it's a future investment :P

Yeah, just checked my emails and got the Flubit one. It sucks but I already did all my preorders till the end of Sept through them and already got my New phone (which was shipped from Google Play store but around £20 cheaper than they sell it lol)

Uncharted: Golden Abyss (PSVita) is £14.99 at Amazon.
Seems to be a price match with Argos (who only deliver in UK).

(Yes, I know it's been free on PS+ for months now, but for people who like to own, not rent games, this might be interesting.)

Does anyone have a clue why One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 is so expensive? The first game was so much cheaper. Is it only going to have a small print run or something?

Have no idea. I was shocked when I saw how high it's sell price was. I'm glad I pre-ordered it a while back when it was actually selling for a bit cheaper. It's a strange one.

Flubit is obviously lying about doing it to improve their service. Come on, GAF.

I got it pre-ordered for £31.48, which I think is a pretty good price. But yeah, I suppose in general the price for the game is higher than for the first game. No idea what the digital price is though.

Cheapest place to get a one year PS+ sub in the UK, recommendations anyone? I'm ideally hoping to buy a scratch off card, as this is for my nephew's console and want to avoid putting in my card details via PSN.

Thanks.

I'm interested in this too. I've a PS4 pre-order and no PSN or anything so i'd like to get stuff sorted before launch if possible.

I recommend you grab the code from either www.gamepointsnow.com or www.game.net. Both allow PayPal and you get the scratch code to your email.

The £40 price point is pretty much fixed across the board unless you can hit a sale. Earlier this year game.net had the 365 codes on sale for £20 and I still regret not buying like five years' worth back then. This was before we learned about the way PS4 uses the PS+ subscription.

Cheapest I've seen is from Blockbuster. Online it's priced at £29.97 but you can only collect from a store. Good if you still have a BB near you.
