Cheap Arse Gaffer |Europe| We Need To Go Cheaper

Last game I preordered on Zavvi was Tales of Graces F and it arrived in 2 weeks.
It was the cheapest solution and I was expecting the game to arrive in 3-4 weeks. Reunion Island is quite far from the UK, so I can't expect to get games under a week with free/cheap shipping.

Also Zavvi don't ship their stuff from the UK. They have at least one warehouse in Chicago from where they ship stuff worldwide.

So, after two weeks of messaging zavvi for a 5 pound refund for the whole tales debacle (which are actually only two messages from zavvi, speedy customer service indeed) and getting nonsensical replies like "you didn't pay for the special version", I tried using Facebook to contact them yesterday.

Today they answered me this:

Hi Ilparazzo, thanks for the message. I will be more than happy to issue a pacrial refund. I have now requested this for you. The money will be showing back in your bank over the next 3-5 working days. Many thanks.

I guess I'll be using the Facebook channel to contact them from now on.

Tesco are doing what they call "The Last Of Us Joel Edition" for £44.99.

Not sure how accurate their info is but they say:
" Includes: Canvas Wrap Packaging, Mini Artbook, Mini Comic, Screen Print Effect Poster & Joel Skin for your Dualshock Wireless Controller
Exclusive Digital Content: In-Game Survival Pack and Sights & Sounds Pack
Plus: Joel costume for Sackboy in LittleBigPlanet"

They also have a £5 off £25 coupon (TD-KFPW) so you could bring it down to ~£40.

I think the new Tesco Direct take money upfront though so remember that before purchase.

They won't let me checkout on this one - says they have no stock? How does that work for a preorder.

Yeah, guess they ran out of their allocation or something. :/ Would have swapped to that otherwise, would rather the joel edition.

Last night I got email that my order has been refunded after literally 20 emails on every zavvi/thehut email adress i could find, but not my postage expenses, and they told me I will be fully refunded and to include proof of postage with receipt with ammount of money that i paid on picture with a package what i exactly did. That's alone 13 pounds.

I sent them bunch of other emails after that, now we will see if I will get fully refunded or they will cut me for 13 pounds.

Strange thing, I wrote to customer relations (and customer feedback) email adress and they responded pretty hars telling me something like they are totally different firm, like we dont know bla bla bla... I just politely asked after that if they can "transfer" my request to other department because no one's answering me from support and I wrote them 2 A4 pages of feedback regarding my pursuit of an item than my money for almost 3 months. Strange is that, that literally 30minutes after they answered me, I got refunded.

I mean, how many people are working as customer support? Half of a person?

Aaaaaaaaand they've blocked me on Twitter. They were unable to answer the questions I wanted answering, so they just cut me off. I am genuinely shocked.

I honestly don't see the point of this. We're going to have two pages of people talking about how terrible their experiences with Zavvi have been, then next Monday everyone's going to be asking for 10% codes to order whatever they've reduced to £18.

If you are upset with Zavvi, STOP USING THEM. It's not like their shitness is a secret, you know exactly what to expect when you try and save fifty pence.

People should know experiences of others who are screwed. So maybe it will stop someone from buying and to be screwed.

They have blocked me long time ago, because once my order was late for a month and I requested on twitter and facebook page that someone from support answer my ticket. I was pretty persistent because they were ignoring me. In one moment i thought that my twitter account doesnt work :D because its impossible not to see my tweets..

*cough* - I started this thread when they screwed me consecutively on different orders and I vowed never to order from them again. Was actually shocked at the amount of bad experiences people posted in it.

To be fair, this is the first problem I've had with them. And I am absolutely shocked by the poor service I have received. I goes above and beyond the odd delayed dispatch. But yeah, I will never use them again. I've just deleted my account details from their site.

Hmmm I could get that down to £36 but I'm not fussed over the extras, though it's only £4.50 more than I have the normal edition pre-ordered for...

Yeah, I've no problem you posting what happened because that's incredibly shit, even by Zavvi's standards. We just don't need everyone then piling on to post their own experiences from six months ago that they've already posted the last five times we've had a Zavvi-are-shit-a-thon.

Like I said, it's not like it's a secret that Zavvi have just about the worst customer service in the world, we don't need this every single time.

And as kurtrussel said:

There is a thread for this.

Because some guy in Sweden ordered 627 titles from them and they all got there within 2 hours of ordering and the customer service was magical. Or something. Also, this is GAF - there's a defence force for everything.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm guessing your supposed to be sarcastic but if so then your post makes no sense, and if you're not being sarcastic then I can obviously tell you that whoever that Swede was he was obviously lying because games don't go from UK to Sweden in two hours no matter what and there's no way anyone could think their customer service is magical. Your post reeks of bs. If you still stand by that bs you just wrote then at least name the person.

He's trying to draw attention to how whenever someone calls out Zavvi for being shit, someone else will point out that, in contrast, their experience has been fine/good.

The weird thing is he's framing it as if that's a bad thing, when that is exactly how it should work. Just because one person had a bad experience you can't discount the opinions of others who have good ones when forming an overall opinion. Which is why calls for a ban are generally blown out of proportion in reality due to the vocal minority/silent majority thing.

Like I said, it's not like it's a secret that Zavvi have just about the worst customer service in the world, we don't need this every single time.

In my experience their customer service has taken a change for the worse lately - the removal of phone support, the length of time they take to respond to website queries has increased quite significantly. Any problems i had last year were resolved with a quick phone call, now you have no idea when or even if somebody is going to deal with it.
But like you say the only way is to not buy from them again. I cancelled my remaining preorder, would rather spend a couple more quid and not have to deal with the hassle.

Yo hold, up, from that blog entry
We'll also be ending the giveaway sequence with a competition for XBL or PSN points (winner's preference), so console gamers still stand to gain from entering!
That sounds interesting, even if its just $20, or a couple of pounds, that's pretty great to get X3

Also Zavvi don't ship their stuff from the UK. They have at least one warehouse in Chicago from where they ship stuff worldwide.

I thought Royal Mail was a UK postal service. I got a Royal Mail sticker on all my Zavvi packages, as far as I can remember. Or do they even use that sticker for orders that ship outside from the UK ?

They also send some stuff from Guernsey, which would explain that sticker.
Some other (mostly expensive) stuff is sent into EU and then from inside EU to the actual destination. Which will avoid custom fees for the customer.

Can people stick the Zavvi grumbling in the 'How shite are Zavvi?' thread? We all know they're shit and pre-ordering from them is a massive gamble if you want it on launch (or at all in some cases) but this is the deals thread.

Can order this now if anyone was wanting to.

Yeah, it's banned. Some people demand that it gets unbanned though. Apparently something happened there a long time ago (before I came to GAF).

They had a security breach and people were finding transactions on their bank account that hadn't been authorised back in 2008. It's been fixed now though.

It would be utterly terrible if they would need more that 4 years to "fix" a security breach, wouldn't it? ;-) What has been fixed is that you can now pay with Paypal at the site, so that you don't ever have to trust them with your credit card details.

Their site is still a sorry display of usability, btw. Also expect your email to be spammed even if you don't subscribe to their newsletter. :-)

I pay customs even on products coming from France, so I don't think I can avoid custom fees if they want to charge them. But cheap items usually don't get custom fees.

The custom fees from America to a country within EEA are way higher than the taxes from a country within EEA to another country within EEA, but of course, there are almost always going to be some amount of custom fees (I always pay a little VAT when ordering from Amazon UK).

What are you talking about? That is no custom fee. You just pay Swedish VAT instead of UK VAT.

Also the EEA has nothing to do with you if you live in Sweden.

VAT is Value Added Tax; a tax that is added and paid to Sweden. As for your second statement, I really don't know what you're talking about. Why would EEA have nothing to do with Sweden? I don't know if maybe you're confusing Norway with Sweden (Norway isn't a member of the EU), but even then Norway (as well as Liechtenstein and Iceland) are all a part of the EEA.

The EEA is an agreement that (simply put) expands the single market regulation of the EU to countries of the EFTA that aren't in the EU. Sweden is member of the EU, right, so free trade of goods between UK (also member of the EU) and Sweden is regulated by the single market regulation of the EU.

I know what VAT is, it's not a customs fee. The amount you pay to customs when importing is tariff.

If you live within EU, then normally packages from within EU shouldn't go through customs. Which also means no customs fees (which also includes VAT at customs, VAT is normally already included in the actual price). Mind you - if amazon.uk sends you a package, VAT is already included in the price. For orders from zavvi you either don't pay VAT or you would pay VAT via customs fees. That's why they can be that cheap.

Packages that do go through customs will only get customs fees (which may be only VAT or even special fees + VAT) starting at a specific value (>26EUR or something like that, depends on country I think). That's why zavvi does this procedure mainly for expensive items. Otherwise it's not needed.

I know what VAT is, it's not a custom fee.

Yes, although if a package is stopped by customs and I have to get it and pay for it, then that's a customs fee for me. Yeah, being 100% exact, it would be paying VAT + customs fee or just VAT. But both of those are paid to customs. Unlike the normal VAT that is just added to all the inner EU prices. That's why it's such a big hassle. I don't really mind paying a few EUR on top (well, I do but not that much), but I always waste lots of time going to customs, getting the package checked etc. And not having to do this is a big plus to me.

For one year i have never had any single problem so far, they even replaced me broken steelbook for MoH.

I think that they changed their system for credit cards, now it's not saving your credit card details, you need to type your details every time you make an order + 3D verification from your bank.

I don't know nothing about paypal tho.

You're going to customs yourself? Here we don't even know our package is held up by customs to begin with. It's our postal service that goes and gets it there (Unless you use FedEx, DPD, UPS, ...). And then they deliver your package to your home without even asking and charge you 10 euro extra for that "service".

Most of the time those packages get inspected and the main customs assumes that the declared value is too low. They then send it to a local customs office and also send me a nice little postcard telling me that "a package is here for you", but they don't tell me which one. Which means sometimes I need to print out 5 or 10 invoices + websites and whatnot, go to the customs, open the package by myself to find out which invoice is correct (they refuse to give out any information by phone and they also refuse to open any packages by themselves - may be a bomb in there or child porn, who knows). Then hand them over the invoice. And in the case of value over limit they need to calculate VAT + fees. I need to wait for like 30 minutes till they are done, then pay (they also want cash only) and then finally get my package. Oh and their opening times are not compatible with people having a job.

And the last few times the declared value was 100% right. Which means I waste my precious time with all of this just for nothing.

I guess "our" procedure here is more convenient. :-)

Where do you live?

I live in Reunion Island (overseas department of France). We have a lower VAT than mainland France here so a lot of websites charge items without VAT. Usually I have to pay both VAT and custom fees when a package is checked by the customs. On a few cases, I only have to pay custom fees.

I never paid VAT/custom fees on single game orders. But if I order many games at once, it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll have to pay.

Damn. Just received a mail from Amazon UK saying that they are awaiting stocks from their suppliers for the standard edition of Ninokuni! I ordered a few days before release. Estimated arrival date is now February 20th. Anyone else still expecting their copy ? I knew they had issues with the wizards edition but even the regular one? Damn Namco
