cheap HDtv

being that I now have 2 Olevia's (5 series 32 and 37) I'm going to purchase the 742i once it drops to about $1500. Given the way the prices drop (fast) for olevia TV's it shouldn't be too long now.

Sorry to bump and older thread....but i just picked up an Olevia 427v from officedepot of all places for $520 on sale and must say im really impressed with the IQ of this set. Im using it in a bedroom mainly for tv/dvd watching but i also have the gamecube hooked up via s-video to it as well. Directv SD via composite actually looks pretty good, dvds look outstanding as well as OTA HD channels. Anyone looking for a cheap lcd set with a built-in hd tuner, definitely check this one out.

Yeah, i just got the 227v from CC, loving it. Watching the superbowl in HD right now and football has never looked so good (no need to mention how fantastic ps3 looks on it, i'll never subject it to SDTV again). I almost don't want to go to this superbowl party i'm going to because i don't know if i can take the step down in tv quality.

A bit off topic, but for those with Olevia 323v sets...

Does anyone know what the latest firmware update does? I can't find a single list of fixes on the site and they haven't answered my email (been almost two weeks, some customer service!).

We think most people don't say "Samsung" in a thread called "cheap HDTVs" >.>

Anyone else have an Acer 32"? I love the thing, but wondering what the settings are to make 360 and Wii look even more awesome than they look now =D
Humbug! I shall take my business to the stickied thread. :lol

Hi looking for a cheep HDTV solution for PC/PS3 use.

so wanting something with 1:1 pixel mapping, 720p native, 20 inch wide screen format that can support 720p over DVI ... and i guess 1080i support until sony fix the 720p bluray output on ps3.

Dell have the 2007WFP for NZ$699 at the moment which is pretty cheep ... but i'm unsure if this monitor does 1:1 mapping at 720p over DVI ... and i don' think it supports 1080i at all. am i right here?

any other sub $NZ1000 monitors i should be considering? i not that fussed on 1080p native as most ps3 titles will be 720p anyways, and 20inch is big enough for me.

Olevia 323v has everything but the DVI input (HDMI, VGA, Component x2). You can easily find one for sub-$400.

ah cool, well HDMI input would be better than DVI i guess as my PC gfx card is VGA out only ... just got blinkered into looking for DVI after looking at Dell monitors for a while as options. sweet i'll see what that olevia goes for down here.

TV is an excellent value, but it does have a few problems.

- Speakers are just terrible. You NEED a sound system, it's not even debatable.

- The set apparently can't do pre-480i (PS1 games, some early PS2 games like Ico) over a digital signal. Any PS3 owners with this set have any problems running PS1 games with component and HDMI?

- Fairly limited options. Though everything you need is there...

yep i have a reciver so sound options are no problem.

does it do 1:1 pixle mapping though? i don't want a streached image.

I just went looking to the lastest firmware for my set, however after entering my serial number i was given a link to the firmware for model number 427-S11, but my model is listed as 427-S12. Not sure if it would work with it, Im not going to take the chance until i hear back from them.....if they ever get back to me :)

how is it for PC montor use though .. looks a bit large with those speakers on the side.. and icant find a NZ sales outlet for this brand.

is there anything else out there more on the PC monitor side of things?

I recently bought Samsung 23inch LCD which has all the inputs from HDMI to VGA to component to S-video. It's got 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and 720p native. It's around $500 on the internet. I tried a monitor that takes tv inputs, but 720p or 480p image quality wasn't that good, although 1080p performance was great.
