Chinese massage went terribly wrong: Need Advice

I did actually look it up beforehand. Most of the reviews were positive saying that the massage was great and the place was clean. The only negative reviews had to do with shorting them on time, or not doing as good of a job as promised.

I'm leaning towards getting the full amount charged back to my card. I asked to speak to a manager during the argument and she said there was no manager.
Most people I assume would take the happy ending, and are pleased with that, hence the positive reviews

But from the way you say she reacted to you not tipping does make it sound like something suspicious is going on there, so if you were to call the police I don't think you would be in the wrong, but that's your call

Next time people ask about what toxic masculinity looks like, it looks like a guy saying "I was uncomfortable with unwanted and potentially criminal sexual advances" and twenty people in the thread saying "you should've just gotten the handjob, dummy."

Report this to the local PD ASAP.

If the woman was that desparate, she likely wasn't doing this willingly.

There is a very good chance that she is a trafficking victim and has no ability to leave on her own.

You can easily stop the charges by filing a fraud complaint with your card issuer (which it sounds like you have done), but that isn't going to help the woman (and likely others like her). Get the police involved and do it sooner rather than later as the owners of that shop will continue to victimize her and others until they are caught.

Or even call the FBI if your local PD has a poor reputation and might be on the take for something like this. Trafficking gets taken seriously by the feds.

I agree with the suggestion that it may be a trafficking situation. Call the police

That's exactly what I was thinking. Her going through all that screams something bad is going was going to happen to her if she didn't get that "tip".

You should report this to the police, on top of having your bank stop payment. For all you know, it could be some human trafficking crap going on there (Very unusual in such a public area, but not impossible).

Not unexpected to be in a public place. Hiding in plain sight and all that.

OP's story is like a series of red flags, especially the desperation, lack of English skills, the demanding of a tip, and the claim of no manager (that was likely her not wanting the manager to know she didn't get extra payment, not that there was no manager on-site).

People who are trafficked are often afraid to reach out because they don't speak the language, they are kept under supervision, they aren't allowed to have their own income, and any documents they have (such as passport and visas) have been taken from them.

Not reporting this is no different than OP seeing someone getting beat up on the street and walking away going "not my problem."

Call the police, local FBI, or some other law enforcement agency and make a detailed report.

like others said, massage parlors are extremely common fronts for human trafficking

if you go to police or your local FBI office they won't joke about your experience and won't bug you for anything more personal than what you offered ITT

if she's being abused, there are others.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking the handjob (as long as the masseuse is not being forced/trafficked of course), but for sure, there should absolutely be no shame in passing either

The insistence of her for the money makes it sound like there is a possibility she is there against her will and needs to make a certain amount of money per day or client. Better to report it and have the police have a look if anything shady is going on there.

It's very safe to assume that in the circumstances described this woman is not engaged in prostitution in an effort to live out her true self. Even if she isn't being trafficked she's clearly not enjoying herself. The absolute best-case possibility is that she's under such serious financial pressure that she is working as a prostitute to pay bills.

Let's be real. Lots of massage places are happy ending places. The cops know it. They go there. Telling the cops won't amount to shit.

no shame, but amusement at his confusion. he's a regular patron of chinese massage parlors and has never once encountered the historical services that those places have been famous for for 100 years or more. and his retelling of the account was also told in the characteristically funny 'NeoGAF' way.

Yeah I agree with you, this scenario is sketchy for sure, but I believe that there are parlors that do this where everything is on the up and up

Unless I missed one of his posts, the op made it sound like this was the first time he's ever been to a Chinese parlor

Not saying that it's not slightly amusing lol

Not true, plenty of places get raided. Failing to report it because "it won't matter" is not a good excuse.

Here is the sad reality. These places are not coy at all, yet remain open for years on end. Even if they don't go there, good chance they are being paid off in some way to look away.

Still report it, because they do crack downs every now and then. But the other issue is, they need to prove it is human trafficking or prostitution. Not just "sex" occurring.

Thanks those of you who answered me seriously. I wasn't aware of human trafficking, so I'm going to call the cops and report it.

If you call local PD versus the local FBI, be sure to include the suspected trafficking bit, along with her reaction/fear of you wanting to leave without paying extra.

A simple solicitation report at the local PD isn't going to rate high on the list of issues.

A report of human trafficking will get the report escalated to the right eyeballs rather quickly.

Driving through Georgia on the interstate and I'd always see billboards for chinese massage places with "truck parking". Not sure where you live OP but this is alarmingly common and quite brazen it seems.

Yes. Get her arrested and deported back where she fled from. That should teach her a lesson. Not condoning what she did is right, but ruining her shitty life because you got charged $40?

Huh well that's odd. But good on you for doing due diligence.

Nah don't do that you did get the massage you paid for. Just not the uh...extra bits. Have the tip taken off if anything but doing a full chargeback is a bit of a douche move.

That said I do agree with the others that her desperation seems a bit off. That really doesn't sound above board.

Edit: read that you're gonna call the cops yeah that's probably the best thing to do at worst nothing untoward is occurring and at best you'll help some people out.

Read the first two responses in this thread again.

I mean, maybe. How would you identify them and distinguish them?

Yes. Get her arrested and deported back where she fled from. That should teach her a lesson. Not condoning what she did is right, but ruining her, already, shitty life because you got charged $40?

If she's been trafficked she's literally a sex slave. You think getting her out of sexual slavery will ruin her life?

I took his post to say that he went to a new chinese massage parlor because the place he usually goes was closed.

I honestly didn't see those as handy rejection shaming. I'm sorry. OP, handy rejection shaming is wrong. Don't feel shame, you did/did not do the right thing, based on your ethical rating.

Yeah, definitely report that place. Her begging to the point of straight up trying to snatch your credit card is a major tell.

Just get the charge canceled and don't go back there.

Also I would have just taken the HJ too bro

Maybe you should have taken the Red pill, Neo.
Can we address posts like these? They are literally advocating they should be grateful for rape/sexual assault. This is just like the "Niiiice" image from South Park being posted in threads about teachers raping students.

This was my first time at one. I usually go to parlors or chiropractors that require you to make an appointment and don't go anywhere near your crotch.

Not to mention the half dozen posts in the thread that say "please let me know how I too can take advantage of this person who is probably being trafficked."

I was originally gonna say leave it be, but as others have pointed out there could be larger implications by not going to the police. Better to get the place shut down than 1) Have other people get sexually harassed/assaulted and 2) Run the risk that some of the employees there are working there against their will/best interests.

Exactly, stuff like this is really getting overlooked in here, and often every thread like this.
