Chinese massage went terribly wrong: Need Advice

After the massage was over, she brought me some water, complimented me on my physique, then stood in front of the door asking for a $40 tip. I said "what do you mean $40"? She didn't speak English well, and told me that the minimum I should tip is $40. I told her that I'm not paying an extra $40 on top of the $70 I was charged. We went back and forth for a few minutes until she tried to snatch the card from my hand and run off to charge me. I snatched it back from her, she begged me instead for a $20 tip, and I said no and get the fuck out of my way. I rush out of there, get home, and see that my card has been charged $40 without my authorization. So I called my bank and had them stop the payment.

How did they charge you those $40??

no shame, but amusement at his confusion. he's a regular patron of chinese massage parlors and has never once encountered the historical services that those places have been famous for for 100 years or more. and his retelling of the account was also told in the characteristically funny 'NeoGAF' way.

Yeah I agree with you, this scenario is sketchy for sure, but I believe that there are parlors that do this where everything is on the up and up

Unless I missed one of his posts, the op made it sound like this was the first time he's ever been to a Chinese parlor

Not saying that it's not slightly amusing lol

Have either of you ever set foot in a multi-cultural city?

Chinese massage parlors in strip malls are known for being cheap, because you're not paying for a CMT, but the legit ones far outnumber the sketchy ones. That's why the sketchy ones can survive. Easy to hide in a forest.

Yes. Get her arrested and deported back where she fled from. That should teach her a lesson. Not condoning what she did is right, but ruining her shitty life because you got charged $40?

Holy shit dude.

LEARN SOME COMPASSION (and some facts).

  • This is one of the more common routes for victims of sexual trafficking.
  • As a trafficking victim, she would be eligible for an automatic visa.

You would rather OP turn his head and ignore a likely abuse victim, than to have him make a simple call that could potentially turn this woman's (and others like her) life around?

Yeah.... Those places are more common than you'd think. You just have to be really careful about massage parlors.

But you should report this. She may be being forced to do this for the extra money, or it could be trafficking. Just report this to be safe, you might actually help her situation.

Edit :just realized she tried to steal your card too. Yeah she's 100% in a desperate situation. Reporting will help her
Edit 2: I don't think you should have finished the massage. That might have made it seem like you weren't That bothered by it.

You already paid for the handjob. Go back and get it.

Edit: human trafficking? I don't know...maybe call the cops. She seemed really desparate for that tip

You: I told her to stop touching my genitals but she still charged my card.

Cops:

This is why it is hard to take it seriously every time there is a thread about rape and people say "But what about male rape victims!" Because they say this kind of shit when it is brought up ovarian like instead of actually talking like they are rape victims.

I don't want to get anyone fired, but what should I do if anything? I had considered telling the police about this place, and how the woman tried to steal my card, but not sure I want the potential drama that would likely come with all of that.

Someone sexually assaults you, blocks your exit, tries to steal your credit card and make fraudulent charges, and your reaction is "I don't want to get anyone fired"? Really?

I've lived a lot of places, seen those parlors all over , like literally in the middle of Bumfuck Egypt, Kentucky, and pretty much assume if its a Chinese massage place that they're doing the thing that they do.

Are you guys sure this is a human trafficking situation? Wouldn't it be dangerous for the people in charge to let the trafficking victims interact with random people off the street? I was always under the impression that trafficking victims were put in more private settings.

Cameras could totally be a thing.

She doesn't speak very much English, and as you can see in this thread, lots of people just don't really care.

Part of the reason these places are such common vectors is precisely because of their reputation and that most people expect them to simply be thinly-veiled brothels; it allows the public (and often law enforcement) to ignore them as semi-legitimate fronts for sex work, giving them the ability to engage in much more serious crimes like trafficking humans/drugs/other illicit substances.

Ah, I was going to suggest telling the police.
You can also leave a review to make sure no-one else goes there.
Any review I see him writing is just going to make more people want to go there.
If he wants to close it down telling the police is all he could do.

I dunno about the charge back, but yeah, I would just drop the place to the police and see what they do with it and be done with it.

Can we address posts like these? They are literally advocating they should be grateful for rape/sexual assault. This is just like the "Niiiice" image from South Park being posted in threads about teachers raping students.

Disagree with the rape/sexual assault conclusion in these circumstances. The OP went to a Chinese Massage parlour, which are known for giving extra services, however the masseuse stopped as soon the OP requested.

Starting touching his genitals without consent is definitely sexual assault.

Not to mention the half dozen posts in the thread that say "please let me know how I too can take advantage of this person who is probably being trafficked."

Exactly, stuff like this is really getting overlooked in here, and often every thread like this.

I support you, but expect nothing.

It's sexual assault. Even getting your butt grabbed can count as sexual assault.

But that's not even the issue in this situation. It's the trafficking

Obviously not positive, but a lot of these places operate pretty openly. A place I pass every day got busted, and something like 15 women were rescued. It was actually a pretty nice and inviting storefront in a well off subbirban neighborhood. Same strip as a Best Buy, Kroger, Old Navy, and other well trafficed retailers.

coming into this thread, I thought you got some disease.

If you can afford $70 massage, which is usually $15-$20 tip. then $40 tips should be nothing. I would charge back or let it go and never go there again.

next time, don't bring credit cards to a chinese massage place.

Report this to the local PD ASAP.

If the woman was that desparate, she likely wasn't doing this willingly.

There is a very good chance that she is a trafficking victim and has no ability to leave on her own.

You can easily stop the charges by filing a fraud complaint with your card issuer (which it sounds like you have done), but that isn't going to help the woman (and likely others like her). Get the police involved and do it sooner rather than later as the owners of that shop will continue to victimize her and others until they are caught.

This right here. I was a juror on a trail about one of these years ago and these kind of "massage parlors" are sadly common. It's likely human trafficking. That woman probably has no choice but to do this kind of work. That's why she was so desperate to get that money.

Get tugged off and pay the $40 next time and save yourself the hassle

A lot of you need to work on your investigative/deductive skills. A lot of the things that happened there was very shady and warrants a 2nd look.

OP I suggest you go to the FBI about it over local PD (or both). I trust the FBI more than any regular police department.

This is a terrible post, its like you read the situation completely different.

Others have said it here, OP, but she definitely sounds like a sex slave. I'd report it. You might save someone's life.

It's been reported to the police, and they gave me a case number. I should get a call back once the investigators look into it.

Mods, you can lock this.

Ethnic stereotyping is alive and well on GAF I see.

You the real MVP OP. More people need to stand up when they see something wrong being done.

sure is a lot of assumptions about trafficking in here. you may get someone deported who doesnt want to be.

If it is as OP described, she's a trafficking victim and reporting the situation to the police may well have saved her life.

If she's not a trafficking victim, then she willingly committed sexual assault and attempted robbery.

The latter is extremely unlikely if her situation is as you claim, because someone who doesn't want to be deported isn't going to go around committing crimes. They're going to stay under the radar.
