To keep it brief I'll touch on one of many points that irked me about this sanctimonious wannabe game:
They took a no-name delusional npc veterinarian doctor that Joel killed to save his daughter and retroactively shifted the narrative into him being this martyr that was going to save humanity, and turned his non-existent no-name npc family into the narrative anchor of the second game (Namely Abby0.
Till now this would've been a fine plot device, the idea that Joel finally gets killed one of these days by an npc after all the murdering he has done to survive.
The problem now is that by the end of both Ellie's and Abby's plots respectively; They've killed dozens of named NPCs in this dumb 'revenge bad' narrative. All of those killed have supposed families and loved ones and friends etc. Because of the stupid precedent that the writers set that any rando npc can now spawned a family that would now hunt down and kill the main character in a humiliating and frankly unrealistic manner--Ellie and Abby should now be completely condemned and must be hunted down to complete this 'cycle of revenge' that the writers cooked up. Essentially; absolutely NOTHING was gained from both Ellie's or Abby's journey except death and destruction. No catharsis for Ellie, no absolution for Abby. And by extension, no satisfaction for many many people that played this game.
And please don't tell me 'that was the point!'
The point sucked, it was unnecessary and it has been done way better by many pieces of literature/media before.
