Blizzard Entertainment has announced that Chris Metzen has been named as executive creative director of Warcraft.



The news comes nine months after he returned to the company as a creative advisor on the Warcraft team. He returned to the studio six years after retiring.

In the announcement on social media, Blizzard said,

Right now, his main focus is supporting our World of Warcraft leadership in crafting the next generation of adventures.Chris was instrumental in developing the foundations of the Warcraft universe, and we are thrilled for him to rejoin our team in shaping what’s to come."

Metzen originally joined the video game studio in 1994, and before his exit in 2016, he served as senior vice president of creative development.

Unless he unfucks what they did to WarCraft 3 with reforged by AT LEAST making WarCraft 3 "vanilla" be officially available, downloadable and online-playable again, he and Blizzard can fuck off forever.

Edit: Ideally, they should re-remake WarCraft 3 properly this time but that won't happen...

It'll be years before we see any difference, if there are any. And they'll still have the same devs who worked on Dragonflight/Shadowlands so good luck with that.

Blizzard really needs a proper reboot from WoW retail. Or a proper sequel thats far and away from that dumpster fire. But not really expecting much other thab maybe new WoW expansions going that aren't mostly catered towards the furry crowd and super casuals. And maybe a new Warcraft game planned for the next several years.

Warcraft is my all time favorite IP and Chris Metzen is one of my all time favorite game developers.

Would be really nice if they can make a good new Warcraft game.

What can Metzen even do at this point? There's too much shite that can't be removed from the game because of the RMT whales that keep it afloat.

That said Dragonflight was widely acknowledged as the best expansion since Legion, which is a low bar compared to the OG trilogy, but at least it's heading in a decent direction.

Cue thousands of tinfoil hat Classic players claiming that "Metzen will do a true Classic+". Meanwhile the best Classic+ to date is already due for release next year, they just won't play it because "private illegal and shuts down, bad".
