Chrontendo Thread of playing The Good, The Bad, The Ugly of the Famicom/NES

Better than nothing. How isnt this thread more popular? He makes the best show on youtube imo, seems like even retro enthusiasts here on gaf mostly havent discovered him.

I agree, his views are pitifully low. By far the most thorough history of a videogame console on YouTube. The man puts a lot of time, effort, and research into his videos and it shows.

Indeed, it's a shame. All his stuff, including the non-gaming videos are great. I hope that the fact he's been on Retronauts a couple of times somewhat boosts his views a little. As was evidenced in this episode the man has a unique perspective on these old games after having played so many of them and seen how they've changed over time and what influences there were etc.

Regarding the podcast episode itself, it was really interesting hearing a bit of the background on a lot of these small Japanese developers of old shitty games and why they might have gone into the field at all. The point about Japan's economy being very strong in the 80s is a very good one that I've never really considered before, but in hindsight makes all kinds of sense.

Also it was pretty funny how they poked fun at his pronunciation of TOSE in this episode. Got a good laugh from that. But don't worry Dr Sparkle, your way if saying TOSE is just part of the charm and we all love you for it.

Sounds like the next few episodes will have some great games. Hopefully that also means that they'll be more fun for Dr Sparkle to make as well. ^^

I started watching episode 51 but it was pretty late so I fell asleep and only woke up to the end haha. Dat soothing voice. Will do a proper watch of it today probably.

Also RIP Molly. Always hard losing pets. I know it all too well. :(

A new Chrontendo is always unexpected, yet always welcome.

I'm intrigued by whatever changes he's cooking up. Can't wait.

[EDIT] Yes, this was just a shameless bump, as the man needs more views. I understand why he doesn't have as many as he should - i.e. his videos are few and far between, very long, and cover a lot of crappy games -, but still.

Finally completed the new episode. Really surprised by Rescue/Hostages! That has recently showed up on some other and way more popular youtube shows as a "hidden gem" lol
metal jesus
. Also, guess Sweet Home is the game he is teasing for next episode, that is going to be a classic!

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. Seems to fit the description. I just thought Sweet Home had already been covered in Chrontendo, but after some thinking of course that's not correct. :P

Regarding Rescue, one of my friends told me of a guy he knew as a kid trading in like all of his NES games to be able to get a new game. And he got Rescue: The Embassy Mission because the boxart looked cool or something... imagine the disappointment lol.

I feel really bad for this kid even though its like 30 years ago now :( I still dont own Rescue, it was on my list, but got removed after this episode. I dont need trash in my collection.

Should get myself a Sweet Home repro to play for the episode, as a huge fan of Resident Evil, its a game i always felt like i should have played.
