Clairvoyance - Cutest Robot Chess Deathmatch EVER

Sweet. This thread turned into a robot fight club. I'll send some invites out today.

The game isn't as intimidating as it sounds. A lot of new players do really well because their moves are so unpredictable.

Random aside, this thread contains about 1/80th of all the players worldwide playing this game. That should be high up on the quota list for GAF threads ;p

but indie games are all 8 bit platformers with stupid gimmicks :((((((((

Nah this looks pretty cool, I might wait until it gets more publicity and the community is more lively but this looks like a lot of fun and the replays are cool as hell.

Actually, right NOW is probably one of the best moments to pick it up as a gaffer, since you have quite a few interested Gaffers joining atm. I'll easily get $5 worth of playtime from the matches and the upcoming small tournament with the gaf fellows. A few dozen hours of fun NOW for $5 isnt a bad deal. If the game is still rocking in 1 year, then even better :)

The game will also cost double the price if/when they ever hit full version if I remember correctly.

Bought. As always, I'm TxdoHawk on there, feel free to challenge me to games (just pardon my slowness, lots going on this evening.)

Wow, that was a really close one in the end there elyetis.
Glad I managed to get out of that once spot where you caught me off guard from TWO sides.

On a different note: Just reached 1100, woo!

Don't play against Toma, he read into you'r mind and know every move you will make. >.<"

Still happy of my second kill, was pretty confident you would move you'r tower over there and not expect my aggresive play.

200 hours of Frozen Synapsing ;p
And I thought the match was actually rather close at the end there!

BRAINFREEZE

Exactly that was the case. I totally did not expect you to attack so aggressively there.

Damn Txdo! You hit everywhere I would be perfectly.

Yeah, I was incredibly lucky with my guesses.

This game is intense, I was leading someone 3-1 robots left at some point and felt good until he managed to death from above two of them due to my idleness. At that point my last robot dude (on the high ground) spammed grenades like crazy trying to win, lol. This is that game.

What really makes this game amazing is the horrible things that happen when things start going wrong, and smart move choices suddenly become awful ones because a grenade is in the way of your move or something.

Haha, yep. Exactly. Often its way easier to just fuck up your enemies plans than to execute your own ;)

I only have 25h on it but really loved it can't wait for the android version.

Revenge will be mine !

Cant wait for the Vita version with enhanced graphics! Yumdidum. Hope they dont dumb down the core gameplay too much.

Oh and yeah:

elyetis said:
0 kill first game 2 kill seconde game ... profit !

Its alternating, not improving! Next time its back to 0 ;P

Asynchronous cute strategy robots? Must. have....

For the YEAR? You do realize that there are still about ... *counts*
EIGHT months of Indie Awesomeness collected for GAF to oogle and spill money over in the form of these threads, right? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=532236

Without the Indie threads, we wouldnt have had the Papers, Please, Factorio and Clairvoyance threads, plus literally ~100 other great Indies this and last month.

Going out for the evening. but feel free to send requests, I'll continue games and respond later.

I hope they are serious about an iOS version being a big priority, I'd be all over it.

Currently, these guys are apparently working on another project to take a small break from Clairvoyance. But I cant wait for the level editor.

Alright, off for today as well. Good luck guys!

Haha, nice work on this thread and others, Toma. Also, I've enjoyed the matches posted from everyone else.

As for me, I'm holding off the playing part of gaming for right now, but I hope the attention Clairvoyance gets continues growing.

That move where you bombed your own robot to trap JLFergus's bot was incredible. But the comeback was amazing too.

It's a brilliant little strategy game. It's easy to pick up and play but it can be really deep and nuanced.

Oh cool, didn't know you could start multiple games at once like proper chess. Started games with TxdoHawk and SapientWolf. That lava level looks sick. I'm in UK, different time zones, so will wait for a response.

Grenades everywhere! It's like the start of a CoD match.

The DFA was beautiful.

Even after knocking you down early on to a 4 on 2, you pulled it out with some great, great moves.
Yeah, the fact that you always have 5 moves is pretty amazing, since that means you can never completely out rule an opponent.

I'll make my moves later! Still underway.

(let me know if you want to be added here or if I should take you out of the list)

Just so that you know, there are two mistakes:
  • elyetis is counted twice
  • messofanegro should be messofanego

Gonna go watch Side Effects (Evil Dead doesn't look scary, just gory, plus I love Soderbergh) tonight, so I'm off for now until around 11pm GMT+1 when I come back and can then complete my moves with SapientWolf and TxdoHawk.

Want a new invite, Sapient?

I had a good run in the last few games:

Wont last forever though I guess. Some of you are becoming really hard to beat now. Kinda cool that you can properly learn this game within 1-2 days, so that no one stays behind for long.

Haha, just watched elyetis and woks last match:

We'll miss you C!

Oh and Wok tried the same thing with the "Do not go left" in my game as well. Unfortunately, it didnt QUITE have the same effect ;p

Quite a funny matchmoment, but I'll post it later.

Does someone understand what the statistics mean? Edit: Sorry for the monologue, it is the Elo system.

I would say:
  • 1044 is my rank after the match with Toma,
  • -17 is the rank change due to the match with Toma,
  • 57% is the probability of my victory, based on the fact my level was 1061 at the beginning of the match and Toma's level was 1056, which is less.

Here, 42% would be the probability of Toma's victory.

The rank change depends on the probability: if I lose a match which I was supposed to win, I lose more levels. Maybe it is some classical scoring system, similar to Elo, but I had trouble finding the meaning of these stats at first.

--
Okay, it is the Elo system: the rank change is 30*(0 - 0.57) = -17.1 in my case and 30*(1 - 0.42) = 17.4 in Toma's case.

Yep, it's definitely ELO, but thanks digging up wha the scores actually refer to. I was asking that myself (before/after the match)

I am still not sure about the probability though. It seems the formula:
1/(1+10^(-(myElo - opponentElo)/400))
works in some cases, but not in ours, for which it seems 400 was replaced with 40.

According to wiki, another distribution (normal instead of logistic) is used nowadays, which would explain the discrepancy.

Oh man. Always use the "Try Moves" button. Learned that lesson the hard way when I owned myself.

I wish you could give the other player moves too, Frozen Synapse style. I also haven't figured out how to watch the match's previous moves until it ends. That would be a useful feature.

You can just scroll up on the list on the left side and click "play playback" or something in the lower right corner to watch the moves until the end.
