Clinton campaign didn't do tracking polls for the last month, ignored Michigan issues

“It was a mismanaged campaign from the start, 150 percent,” one aide said. “There was so much stuff that needed fixing. I thought we might have learned some lessons from the primary. But as you can tell from last night, probably not.”

Less than 24 hours after the mood at the Clinton election night party at the Jacob Javits Convention Center turned from celebratory to funereal, aides wondered how they could have lost so badly, why they didn’t see it coming, and how the Democrat could have lost to Trump.

One surrogate blamed the poor sampling models and analytics that the campaign was so reliant on. It hadn’t done traditional tracking polls for the last month.

Other aides and surrogates pointed to an arrogance that came from the top.

Some faulted the top brass for not properly allocating the resources they needed to win states.

Given Clinton’s primary loss to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Michigan, allies questioned why the Democratic nominee didn’t double down in the state much earlier.

Allies on the ground complained for weeks that they weren’t getting the resources they needed.

What the fuck? What happened the the amazing data models and ground game she supposedly had?

Actually - what was her ground game? It seems Trump campaigners made a bigger impact and got people out? Like what was this supposed big ground game?

I'm eating crow

Can't believe they just assumed they had it in the bad as they tried to expand the map like the way they did.

Considering how close the margins were, they could have had this in the bag if they focused on the main states and just sat there for months.

Unbelievable... This should have been an easy election to win for the Democrats considering the guy they were up against. Looking back, it seems they didn't take it serious at all.

I was just thinking this. All they had to do was maintain. That's it. Maintain and convince people to vote. Wow.

Could Hilgaf tell me how this is someone else's fault or will I have to wait until February for them to see their shadows?

And yet all the while, we fell all over ourselves talking about how organized the Clinton camp was compared to Trump's disorganized mess of a ground campaign.

It's almost as if we make up these narratives out of thin air to suit the reality that we want to believe in.

Was that Plouffe guy still part of the campaign or not? I know he was in Obama's campaign. Because that man was so fucking sure Hillary would win.

It's quite disturbing to see that they didn't learn anything from losing this state back during the primaries, never mind went an entire month without updating any of their tracking data whatsoever.

She underestimated how much people hated her and she was too slow out the gate. A lot of this was in her '08 campaign and surprise folks, it's found in '16 as well.

Fuck this. I'm so pissed now. She ran an absolutely horrible campaign in 2008 and she ran a horrible campaign in 2016 again if this is to be believed.

Not doing tracking polls ahead of the election seems so foolhardy I'm not sure I believe it. Obama had an incredible polling setup for his re-election, I had thought she was getting help along the same lines.

Not polling MI after their huge primary surprise is straight up incompetent, if true.

She also took weeks off from the limelight. And people were saying it didn't matter too lol.

Were they all posting in Poligaf and just enjoying the "inevitable" echo chamber with the rest of us? I feel a little silly and dumb as fuck about how confident I was but I'm just a dude. They lost the country for decades. I wonder how they feel.

And we all thought the Trump campaign was the mismanaged one.

Holy.

Shit.

I still cannot get over any of this.

Not really. The Clinton camp having issues doesn't necessarily change anything about the reality of the Trump camp. We have people there admitting to not knowing wtf they were doing. Are we forgetting they had a 12-year old running their campaign in one city?

eh...why wouldn't they bring this up during the campaign? just sounds like the usual finger pointing when you're blind-sided and can't explain why yet

no one thought trump would win...not even trump and his team

I think they got sidetracked by thinking they could grab some Republican states on top of winning outright. They basically thought Trump had no chance and burned so many they could take everything and took their eyes off the prize.

So, it look liked Hilary learned nothing from her 2008 defeat by Obama.

I remember people were concerned about that, but it was brushed aside.

Hubris. The Clinton story.

Thanks. Now we lost the SC. Everything else can be reversed if the Cheeto King doesn't get us all nuked or cause a recession.

It's probably a bit of both, really.

But they did fuck up. It may take a while for a consensus to be reached on exactly how.

What, a 12 year old?

Hubris. I already said it yesterday. I also remember how frequently we were reminded of the campaign's great ground game. Turns out there's nothing there.

Don't worry, they're already doing that in the Bernie threads ;)

All the while we fight amongst ourselves the alt-right laugh and cheer. Fucking digusting.
