There was a story going around back in 2006 that both HHH and HBK didn't like him.

They have an idea of who should be on top, who should be the biggest draws, the best heels, ect.... and when someone breaks away from that and breaks through their glass ceiling on their own it seems to piss them off. It seems like a really terrible way to run a business, but the WWE seems like a really terrible business so it makes sense.

HBK didn't like a modern day version of his arrogant, Im-above-everyeone self? He mellowed out once he returned and all that, but he was never truly involved in many main title storylines - which is good because he should be helping to propel new guys instead.

They had to let things a bit during those times. They were getting stomped and losing money.

Vince couldn't really afford to do that. As mentioned, they were getting creamed by WCW and were very VERY close to bankruptcy in 1997. In Austin's book, he said Vince originally saw him as a "solid mid-card hand" and never had any plans for him beyond being a solid Intercontinental level heel to help elevate other babyfaces (think Mr. Perfect in the early 90s). Austin was given the '96 King of the Ring only because Triple H was scheduled to win, but got punished due to the MSG curtain call thing. There were never any long-term plans for Austin to win that tournament.

But in '97, the WWF was circling the drain and they were looking for something, anything to attach the company to. They decided to back the Austin hype train and he ended up single-handedly saving the company, took back the lead forever from WCW, and turned Vince into a billionaire.

What's so silly is that CM Punk seemed to be ready for this exact same path and Vince couldn't see the forest through the trees. Punk's original "pipebomb" in June 2011 was very similar to the original Austin 3:16 speech in terms of attention and effect. Punk was ready to be that guy. Then HHH and Nash decided to have their fun and totally faceplanted all of Punk's momentum.

This is a guy who forgave the Ultimate Warrior after he walked out on him after holding a major PPV hostage. It's probably the best thing about the guy, really. He's a prick, but at least he's a magnanimous prick.
 
so happy punk spoke about this and the majority of the boys are on his side. Even away from the business he is still "the best in the world"

Harlem Heat already had a limited move set. I don't know how you could have limited it much more. Stevie only did the most basic of basics plus a bicycle kick. He didn't even start doing the Slap Jack until after they split up. Booker's move set didn't change at all in WWE.

Vince only cares about one thing: $$$
Unlike Paul, Vince knows it's all just one big game, and the one who wins is the one with the most money. I've always thought Vince was a "devil you do know" kind of operator and this just confirms that.

Even if Vince wanted him back he wouldn't return because of Triple H/Steph. Ain't ever gonna happen, unfortunately.

Would love a Punk vs Triple H at WrestleMania now. Damn.

It's a damn shame we'll never see Punk on the biggest platform out there. :'(

Warrior said during the court stuff regarding the DVD lawsuit, Vince came up to him in the court lobby area and tried to talk to him like absolutely nothing negative was going on.
 
Listening now and I can't blame Punk for what he did. Sounds like the WWE hasn't changed in many years because I remember people complaining about the same type of things Punk is many many years ago.

ya once trips fully takes over no chance in hell punk will be able to return but in all honesty why would punk want to return to the wwe as he stated he is now healthy and happy, why would he wan to go back to an environment he knows is polluted.
 
triple H/Steph owning the company is probably going to be the worst thing ever if they hold grudges like that but i feel like Punk is reserving some stuff back so if they go ham on him im sure he's going to unleash everything
 
well if you listen to the podcast it sounded like at one point punk may have returned but because they cunted him off with the pay and shit it obviously was like fuck that.

vince forgave bret and warrior im sure he would have forgave punk (if punk was willing too aswell)

Yeah it seemed like he was open to coming back after his "suspension," but no one ever contacted him, they withheld his pay, and then they sent him a termination package on his wedding day. At that point, he said fuck it, took 'em to the cleaners, and seemingly won't look back.
 
Punk is not blacklisted. Its like Kevin Nash said. "Bring him back, then fuck em".

HHH will swallow his pride to have the opportunity to royally fuck over Punks booking one last time.
 
Kinda silly but I know CM is buddies with Davey Havok (of AFI) so I was kind of bummed that he never returned after AFI dropped their new album, coming out to one of their songs.

you think punk would actually stay? he'd probably have some sort of safe guard in his contract..i doubt in that scenario anyone trust anyone

Colt Cabana is on the no call list for every promotion in the country. He's talentless.

From the stories CM Punk told, it actually sounded like Vince somewhat likes and cares about Punk, just not enough to put his health over his money making ability. Triple H comes off way more hateful than Vince does.

Once Triple H takes over it'll be hell for anyone talented in the company. Punk won't be the last guy with a massive chip on his shoulder as he's held back by management.
 
Vince in his craziness probably views himself as some twisted father figure to everyone. WWE is some big warped family so family will have its issues but always come together type shtick.

I mean even after Punk walked out he called weeks later like everything was normal and asked if he was ready to come back. That's why Vince being upset and not overly pissed makes perfect sense. He still thinks its all a big family just feuding who will come to terms and eventually be one big happy family again.

HHH taking over will be a radical shake up because HHH is a vindictive asshole who has no delusion of family or loyalty except to his little circle.

It all comes down to politics. Obviously you have to play the political game when it comes to several things in life but it's much more prominent in corporations and high paying, entertainment, rare jobs/opportunities. Ever heard that old saying "it's all about who you know" ?

I'm sure there are a number of different reasons that make up why they never gave him the #1 push but I think it has a lot to do with them wanting a huge bodybuilder looking baby face as their #1 and them not being a fan of his look or tattoos. Many of their reasons may come off entirely irrational but that is politics. People being assholes to maintain their name/pride. On top of that he comes off kinda standoffish so he has probably just rubbed them the wrong way several times. politics is what it comes down to.

HBK spoke out for him in ECW though, according to the guy who was booking it in '07 after Heyman was out:

(watch here) And then Hardcore Holly hands Punk his first loss. (watch here) I had heard rumblings of agents pushing Vince to show Punk the door. ECW started to receive less and less attention and then we had the horrible show in Little Rock in mid-January. The matches were bad, the interviews were bad; the plane flight home from that show was worse. It was the longest flight of my life. The next day I sat down to talk with Stephanie about that flight but more importantly about what I thought ECW needed. I needed a veteran voice to help turn the tide. I needed an ally.

Fast forward to the agent meeting in Houston. Vince McMahon was scheduled to appear on ECW for the first time in the start of a new storyline. He was going to rid ECW of it’s “Original” stars and make the way for a “New Breed”. The meeting quickly turned into another CM Punk bash fest. My role was to run the meeting but dare not speak out of turn on the veteran agents. This was how the previous months meetings had gone but this day was different. It was a new voice in the room that changed everything. “Um, if you don’t like something the kid is doing, why don’t you work with him to fix it… instead of killing him” That voice belonged to Shawn Michaels.

In January of 2007, Shawn Michaels was my consultant on ECW. I was able to get in his input on the shows, thoughts on talents and in this situation the voice needed in that agent meeting. Like getting to work with Paul Heyman, Vince McMahon, Dusty Rhodees, working with Shawn was a dream come true. In that meeting in Houston, Shawn brought up that guys like him and Undertaker will not be around forever and, while everyone liked Holly, it was guys like Punk who were the future. The mood in the room changed, the den of negativity that existed was silenced for the time being. Punk wasn’t pushed strong that week or even the next week but the ship had turned. Punk was positioned better from that point forward.

HHH can spot talent if his NXT recruits are any indication. Punk and Trips just don't like each other for one reason or another. It happens, no one likes everyone they work with.
