Coca-Cola looking to sell high end milk.

Haha, not necessarily that. But like a milk it yourself type deal... I don't know, maybe that's arousing as well?

But then you're basically wanking the cow off into your mouth

(Yes I realise it isn't actually, but it paints the picture, right?)

Milk has been ruined from me ever since I was a kid and went to a diary show. Got to drink milk straight from the udder. Everything else has been a pale imitation of the real stuff ever since. v___v

Why won't farms let you come and drink straight from their cows. That would be a service worth paying for.
Food safety reasons. Raw milk is also very volatile. It goes rancid quickly and is subject to more bacterial growth.

I grew up drinking milk every night for supper, and use it for cereal a ton. I don't drink it at the supper table a lot anymore, because I either have bottled water or Coke. However, I sometimes get a craving for a glass of it.

I eat a lot of cereal, though, and drink the milk. My cat bugs me for the leftovers, so I save him some.

Has anyone found an explanation of how they make this stuff? They use the term "soft filter" but that probably came from 5 focus group panels and 3 consultant groups. How do you filter sugar and protein out of milk? How can they then be allowed to call what they are selling milk?

is there such a thing as carbondated milk? Could you add caffeine to it?

They'll add a ton of salt to it as well as some caffeine, so the more you drink the thirstier you feel + the comedown from the caffeine rush making you antsy.

Coca cola and health don't go in one sentence, that drink was designed in the most evil way

Bump'd.

Fairlife finally started showing up in grocery stores near me, so I've been trying it out for the past couple of days.

It's great. I'd definitely recommend it. Tastes great and since it's lactose-free, it doesn't upset my stomach. Love the extra protein and lower carb count as well.

Are you kidding? The evil designers drink it themselves. It's easy to make a balanced diet that includes soda. And you should be drinking water throughout the day anyway, so it doesn't matter that there's salt in it (which has flavor purpose). And caffeine is a common ingredient that Americans like for alertness, largely influenced by coffee. There's nothing wrong with that either.

Because there's higher risk for poor sanitation and bacteria in the milk if they don't clean and pasteurize it.

My sis is a dairy economist, and she's convinced this stuff is going to be huge.

She currently works for a company that manufactures post-workout whey protein drinks and nutritional drinks for the elderly, among other things, and she's already telling her superiors to keep a close eye on this stuff. Could put a big dent in their market, even if it's not marketed as a direct competitor to their products.

No lie, I've been looking for this stuff after seeing this thread. The macro profile has got me sold. I'm on a cut right now so more protein and less carbs sounds great to me.

Did Coke buy Fairlife? They're office is near my condo in the West Loop of Chicago and I've had their chocolate milk for a couple years as an occasional treat. It's delicious with a great nutritional profile but it's crazy expensive.

It's a joint venture between Coke and Select Milk Producers, a dairy cooperative.

I find the responses in this thread hilarious, because in NZ this company called Lewis Road Creamery recently released some high end milk and chocolate milk products. They're very nice, smooth and sweet. They collaborated on them with Whitaker's Chocolate which is one of the most recognizable chocolate brands in New Zealand, the end product essentially being a mix of milk and liquid chocolate. A bit of a different product than what Coke is doing but still, high end milk.

The result is ridiculous. This stuff has been perpetually sold out everywhere for months, with people getting up early to try buy it, with people being limited to 1 or 2 bottles per, with the prices being jacked up (I paid 8 NZD for 300mls of chocolate milk), the product has received tons of rave reviews, it's been an absolute phenomenon.

And here Gaf is acting like there will never be money in high-end milk. Now maybe we have abnormally high milk content in our diets here (I know I've personally consumed about a litre or more of milk on average each day for years, the last 6 months are the only time I've started cutting down), but I'm sure the right product and marketing would be successful. Not to say Coca-Cola is going to be that successful though.

The product design that was posted in this thread (assuming that is final) is pretty horrible too. I mean compare that with the aforementioned Lewis Road Creamery milk:

Holy crap that looks awesome! It's been a while since las post - is this still the case over there? Next time I'm in NZ might need to buy a few bottles!

The local big dairy firm Valio brought something like this (milk with more protein and vitamin d and calcium, I think) to the marketplace a few years ago, and they immediately started to market it with sportsfigures. I think I've seen it stocked at gyms too.

The bottle looks like a very processed drink, and that would be my one complaint here. It screams synthetic, rather than dairy. That Lewis bottle from New Zealand posted above is a great plastic bottle design that also looks like it represents a simple product that's close to the dairy origins.

Oh I remember this thread.

Well, i'm a tad curious, we'll see. if I see it on the shelf I'll give it a look.

Curious about pricing though. What did you pay for it, for those that have found it?

i'll probably try the chocolate. i'm picky on my chocolate milk, so this brand will live or die based on how that goes down.

So in summary, it has more protein, less milk sugars, lactose free, and also comes from non hormone cows. However, it's also more expensive.

The target market are the health conscious, females age 25 to 39 and mothers.

I don't think this will do well personally, especially at such a premium price.

There's already something like this here in Texas that tastes absolutely phenomenal and is not that expensive.

The chocolate stuff is the best chocolate milk I have ever tasted.

If I remember correctly, I paid about $4.50 for a 1.5-liter container of the whole milk.

I'm mixed on it. I hate the logo, but I think the packaging is decent.

I think they're intentionally trying to get away from the homey, old-timey look and really focusing on marketing it as a nutritional beverage.

Ok so this thread sent me on an adhd binge and apparently the internet is telling me to stay away from Pasteurized and uht processed milk. Htst seems the way to go, but the main company that produces and sells that sort in grocery stores is natural by nature, who do not sell in texas. You can buy on amazon, but its 36 for 3 gallons and then FORTY!!!! for shipping.

Shout outs to whoever dropped the realmilk link

It seems my only alternative to buying quality milk ia going to a farm or farmers market that sells grass fed milk. And realmilk tells me that the people in tx who offer that live a very long drive away from me. So now what?? What milk doesnt suck??

Using simple ingredients? it's milk and comes out of a cow, how much more simple can it get.

Plus I noticed they showed cows in cages instead of lying to us with images of cows in pastures. Something is definitely up.

Started carrying this at my store a while ago (I'm a dairy department manager). I bought a small bottle of the 2% to try it out. Absolutely awful. Tastes like water with some milk splashed in it. Maybe the whole milk is better but we don't have it in small bottles. The chocolate milk is probably fine.

I'll stick with our store brand for less than half the price.

when it comes to milk, it needs to have a creamy texture or it feels like i'm drinking rice milk. saying it was like water does not bode well :P

PLEASE GIVE ME THIS

Well the soy in soymilk has the estrogen based proteins in it but I don't think the same applies to regular milk. But research shows that you do need to take in a large amount of soy to even have an effect on estrogen levels. I try to avoid it all together to be on the safe side and stick to almond milk.

Actually I read about a case of a guy that had 8 times the estrogen a normal woman has and he only had like a glass a day.

When he started to grow breasts he went to the doctor. After 3 doctors could figure out what was wrong with him, the fourth figured out it was the soy milk. He only had like 1 glass a day, but apparently he had a special susceptibility to the stuff. For most people it would never get that bad.

After reading that though, I'm staying away. Also most doctors now are recommending men stay away as well.

Yep, completely agreed. Again maybe the whole milk is creamier, but if the 2% was that watery I wouldn't be surprised if the skim was just Dasani in a milk container.
