COD 4 Beta Thread

Any opinions on noobtubing or C4-whoreing existing in this game? I've played a bit of BF2, so I was wondering how those two weapons turned out.

Noobtubing doesn't always work. It has to be a direct hit, and a lot of times it will miss and go through there legs or through over there shoulders. C4-whores also have a hard time, because there are always mutliple flanks to any one position, so you may be guarding one way, but you will get destroyed from another direction.

Is it possible to still get into the beta? The site is giving a countdown for registration which will end sometime on Monday. I've signed up this weekend and even though it tells me an email has been sent I've recieved nothing.

It's odd that you can't look at anything on the site until you have received the confirmation email. Not even look at screens or videos.

It's not ending on Monday. Public registrations BEGIN on Monday. It's Friends & Family right now with only 1500-2000 people playing I believe. The gates will be opened on Monday at noon PST.

Anyways add me GAF I've been having a blast. GT: vapr

I signed up for IW site back when it launched, now that the beta is imminent god knows how many people are registering for the website trying to get into the beta and that may be slowing things down. Hopefully when that countdown ends monday and I throw my hat in to get into the beta I get a token, I can't wait to try this game out. Each video shown and all the perks they've displayed make it look like its a ton of fun.

Would you explain to me what happens when you get the email with the code?
Do you put the code in the marketplace and you obtain an access to the beta download?

And, more important, if I have a friend that has this access and I simply want to try this beta (few hours) can he borrow it to me? :)

Does C4 work as a grenade? As in a guy running around with C4 who tosses it when he sees someone and sets it off before th other guy can kill him.

In BF2, guys would run around and throw C4 at your feet and set it off before you could shoot them. It eventually got nerfed so that you could barely throw C4 at all.

It'll be important that they get the balancing on those right, as COD4 is all about shooting other people. Unlike in BF2, where if the brokenness of the game annoyed you, you could go fly a plane or something.

You may be able to play if you recovered his account. That's how people were playing the Halo 3 beta. To get the demo after you receive the token you go to Marketplace > Redeem Code and simply enter it. It then prompts you to download the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Demo.

C4 definitely seems balanced. I have been owned by a guy cooking a grenade and throwing it at me and it exploded in my face. I said "holy shit" while watching it on the kill cam.

I should try doing that - I keep on forgetting that you can cook grenades.

I agree w/ Fox on the C4, as well - I've only been killed once or twice wth it. Seems like something that would be more useful on objective games for the sake of holding down a flag or something like that, and most people are playing deathmatch these days.

The M203 undermounted grenade launcher is often referred to as the "Noob Tube".

Cooking a grenade is when you let it tick down before letting go - with skill you can cook it just right so that it explodes as soon as it gets to your enemy.

Screw that lol. I just love to blow people away with the launcher, only one has whined so far. And I have been killed like 4 times with C4... nothing bad I suppose. Oh well... off to playing, gotta enjoy the "exclusive" status I have before everyone else comes playing :lol :lol

God I love the M4. I hope in single player you can equip more then one attachment just for the sake of being bad ass. I want a silencer + red dot.

Ah, well I've been killed by the NoobToob on several occaisions then especially in the Vacant level. However, I've never once felt it was unfair or unbalanced. I don't see anyone abusing it either so I say leave it as is.

Ive never duied from C4, I think Im the only person in the whole fucking beta to even actually use it. Snipers are the only problem, I mean, fuck. Its so god damn redicuilosly fast at unloading its clip its stupid. Either they need to tweek the time between shots or make the recoil HUGE. All I ever see now is gillie suits...

The "Noob Tube" is near perfect in balance. If you're firing it from a distance, it does require some skill to place it correctly. One thing, though, and I guess I should send this to the beta email, but when you fire a grenade round into someone's chest, up close, there's no explosion, no splash damage, just the sound of metal hitting flesh and a kill. Most complaints are coming from that, I imagine.

Oh, and I haven't come across this yet because I'm just so damn good, but if you get killed while cooking a grenade, will it still explode?

Oh yes. I have held a grenade and ran into a room of people killing everyone after they have shot me. (or it just blows up in my hand)

There is a minimum arming distance on the M203 round, somewhere around 10'. If you hit someone with the round before it arms it'll just kill them instantly. This is by design and how it works in reality.

Yes, if you're cooking a grenade and get killed you'll drop it - kind of like an impromptu Martyrdom.

Ah, so now I can dismiss the whiners with a realism argument. Fantastic.

No, no and no. Please don't listen to him. I don't think Snipers are a problem and I love that you can take a few shots off right away. I'm sick of games gimping snipers with huge recoils or lag in between shots. I don't even play as a Sniper most of the time but I love how they are when I have used them. I love being able to hide and pick off people yet at the same itme when you do, a) the fire will expose you, b) the kill cam will expose you, and c) usually people know where the good sniper spots are or once you've exposed yourself you're as good as dead unless you move so you can't camp. Again, the Sniper is fine. You're probably good for a kill or two if that before you get killed. I love how the sniper is so don't gimp it.

Thanks for the info Comrade.
So I just need one friend that borrow me his account :)
Anyway tomorrow should be the day the gate opens.
Let's hope that even Euro players could get the key.

I don't recall the velocity of the round at launch, but I don't think its enough to cause a kill at 10 feet... especially if any kind of body armor is involved.

Speaking of weapon balances...I think Infinity Ward did a great job balancing the weapons in general. They're all easy to pick up and use but not a single one is useless, or overpowered. There's not a "go-to" gun like in a lot of other games that everyone uses which is great. Every weapon is capable of performing it's task and they're all balanced against each other.

You can't get one tomorrow. It's USA only, not NA, USA.

Creating an USA account? :P

Or you could follow IW's request and not bring additional traffic to the site while the people in the US (who are actually eligible) are attempting to register.

Wrong read below.

The M406 40 mm HE (high explosive) grenades fired from the M79 travel at a muzzle velocity of 75 meters per second. The M406 contained enough explosive to produce over 300 fragments that travel at 1,524 meters per second within a lethal radius of 5 meters. This round incorporated a spin-activation safety feature which prevents the grenade from arming while still within range of the shooter; it armed itself after traveling a distance of about 30 meters. Even though the round would not arm at point blank ranges, the round still had enough kinetic energy to kill or seriously injure its target.

When I was active I was an M203 gunner when not performing my crew Chief duties (Black Hawk)

Hit someone in the head with it at close range and you're dead. Hit them square in the chest with no armor, you were going to die, hit the chest armored, and you'd lose your breath, and prob get knocked out cold, which means you'd die from the subsequent and inevitable round to the head that would follow.

So pretty much the final opportunity I have to get into this godforsaken Beta is tomorrow at noon pacific, right?

There, I will have to F5 the living shit out of the website, get extremely lucky, sign up, and then wait for an email, which may or may not come the same day, right?

Just making sure that I have everything correct before the big day. God, I hope I make it in.

Exactly. Actually, you might not have to F5, there's nothing that says it's "first come, first serve".

Pretty sure you have it down. And I'll be right there with ya. Hope we get in.

Yes there is.

To be fair, we're doling out the tokens on a first come first serve basis.
