COD 4 Beta Thread

This game is awesome for people who suck at FPS games.

Pretty much how I feel about the game. People who are good at FPS will do well, but the margin of difference between people is much smaller than other FPS.

The "WHAT THE FUCK, I EMPTIED A CLIP INTO THAT GUY'S HEAD AND I ONLY GET OFF ONE SHOT IN THE KILLCAM?!" situation is more an unoptimized netcode issue than reason to condemn the perk system, yes?

I am not condemning the perk system as a whole. What I would prefer is having some idea before I engage someone what perks they have. If a person has Deep Impact enabled, have their gun make a louder report or have a more pronounced muzzle flash. If they have extra health on board, give them a different type of helmet. All I am asking is that I have some idea visually what the person I am about to shoot has as far as perks so I can make a more informed decision about what method to use to snuff them out.

And Androduky, I know how to pull of headshots. You don't need to explain to me how to win at FPS.

I'm surprised to see that not many people use the Skorpion. It's my number one choice, and I do pretty well with it. I have a 1.70 k/d ratio due to this gun. It's devestating in close quarters.

Okay...

I only use it on Vacant since you can easily surprise people around corners. Stay indoors. Always keep moving and watch the radar and never stay in one spot too long. I weave in and out of rooms to stay out of the long hallways (where the shotgun is useless at long range) and hunt for people.

Instead of using the grip, I use the 3 special nade perk in its place. I think the other perks I have are steady aim and deep impact. You have to be close to kill with the shotgun anyways, so you shouldn't need the grip to help you. When I see someone at a distance, I'll use a stun nade to close the gap and get close enough to kill them before they recover. This is also a chance for you to approach them from another angle other then the one they saw you at before they got stunned.

Always aim for the upper chest.

Learn the map.

bah,

if you can't rule with the shotty on vacant something is wrong.

Try 30 kills on overgrown.

for which you need Extreme conditioning, front grip, and juggernaut. The rest should come natural. Run everywhere (camp when sprint is down), stick to buildings, and camp during stalemates. Your strengths are in tightening people in choke points such as covered bridge, barn, "l house", dry river bed, etc.. Use the iron sights too. May sound stupid but more than often people are gonna try to drag you out of houses if they notice you have a shotgun. Getting a ranged kill or two will ruin their confidence in that plan.

And you can tell what perk an enemy has when they kill you.

What "invisible perk" is there that would protect someone anyway? If you can fire at them and "hit them multiple times" and they don't die then you need to aim at their head or their chest. There is always a way to counter whatever the other team is doing.

COD4's hit detection is total bullshit.

Unless the kill cam is totally inaccurate, I get killed with a headshot when people are aiming at my legs and crotch.

And the shotgun has shot the size of marbles.

Yup, you're one of those campers that lie down waiting for someone come by.

No one is trying to explain to you how to win. You say you're hitting people 3 or 4 times, I am just trying to give you pointers to kill them.

I use the shotty with the grip, extreme conditioning and deep impact? Is deep impact the one for extra bullet damage? Using that one sometimes it only takes one well aimed shot even at medium range to bring them down. I was using that and last stand but I think LS is a waste of time so I tried the extreme conditioning and it makes a world of difference.

Stop crying.

You want someone with a shotgun to run out in the open where they are useless? You have to adjust your play style according to what weapon you have and if that means waiting for someone to come to you, then so be it.

How about you don't want into the room and get shot and try to out think the camper? This goes hand in hand with knowing the maps and knowing where people like to hide. There is no perfect camping spot in any of the three maps that you can't flush someone out of with some skill. You can shoot through walls, look in windows, come into rooms through different entrances, etc. There really isn't an easy place for one person to camp effectively for very long (part of this reason is because of the spawning).

And the killcam of course. Sometimes someone camping in one spot for awhile might get me a couple times but eventually you will find a way to get in there and kill them because thanks to the cam you know exactly where they are. It really makes the game a lot more enjoyable when playing campers, as opposed to a game like Halo where a team can setup camping AND have the maps power weapons and you're basically screwed. But in this game a quick kill streak unlocks radar and an air strike and it really mixes things up. Sometimes someone who isn't that good might get a lot more kills then they should but that rarely happens if the opposing team knows what they're doing. The games pretty balanced, especially in weapons. I think they are all pretty easy to use, it's just a matter of how you go about using them.

Does anyone here keep up with the charlieoscardelta site? They've got an interesting mission going on right now where they actually let players suggest perks. (Doubt they'll actually use them, but, hey, at least it's nice to see the gesture)

I submitted an idea I had off the top of my head and was wondering if you guys would think it would work or end up broken. Here it is:

Privledged Private- While equipped, player only needs to get 2 kills in a row to earn the ability to call down a UAV, 4 kills in a row to enable an airstrike, and 6 kills in a row to gain the helicopter call-in.

Doesn't work that way. As far as I know it's a one time deal, but I haven't gotten any responses yet, so we'll see.

*writes down names*

These'll come in handy. :x

Admit it! You glitched your way in. I'm on to you, slick.

The Glitcher Witch Hunt begins now!

Well, the recipients have the proof they need showing I wasn't some dirty glitching bastard.. UNLIKE SOMEONE WE KNOW! :lol

So, again, we'll see what happens heh. If not, I'll name names!

This game has weird hit detection. I've been in situation where a guy is standing still and I put 3 shots into his head and the person doesn't die or I unload a full clip into a person's body only to get killed in one shot.

The best weapons in this game are:

1)semi-auto sniper (In the right hands it will fuck shit up).
2)M4 (Most versatile weapon in the game and has no kick).
3)saw (The gun has no kick, high rate of fire and a huge clip. If it didn't slow you down I would have it at number two).
4)shotgun (Tears shit up at close range).

I'm so bipolar on this game.. one day I love it.. next day, I hate it.
My love/hate with this game really just comes down to who I'm playing against. I truly, with a passion, hate campers. Especially on Crash where people love to just hold that 3 story building...It just gets boring attacking the same area over and over again and having to constantly watch each corner to see if some dude is laying down just waiting for you to walk by.

But campers turn up in just about any online MP game so what can ya do.

Play something other than deathmatch and TDM over and over, and a lot of the complaints some of you are having will disappear. Domination, for example, is easily the best gametype in the game, since you hardly get campers and you are constantly on the move.

In closing, Deathmatch is boring.

Beta Update: Level Increase Inbound

Hey Everyone --

Friday morning at 10 am PDT (1 pm EST) we’re going to be increasing the Rank level cap to Level 16. This is going to allow you to rank up and unlock more weapons, more perks, and more features; including Clan Tags (lv. 12). This is the first of several level increases we’re going to do throughout the beta, so keep playing, and I'll keep you informed of incoming updates. Thanks to everyone currently playing for the tremendous amount of feedback we’ve been receiving; Keep sending it, and we’ll see you online!

Man you guys are going to love the full game :D
If there's anything thats going to pull me away from Halo 3, this is definately it. The only thing thats gonna suck is when the actual game comes out and I wont have my Blue Tiger camo for my M4 and after the level cap increase my Red Tiger camo once i get 30 or so more headshots...

Although I do like the other challenges that are locked in the boot camp, those will be fun and the number of levels they go up will probably be mind boggling.

If the beta is any indication I think it's a
Halo 3
killer, gameplay wise anyway. I wish they weren't so close together...
The more I play it, the more I seem to agree. The fact that it has Halo multiplayer's best feature (party system) and that it's probably a little more accessible as well makes me think that I'll be playing this with friends a lot more. We still play COD2 multiplayer, even today.

Really glad the update is happening tomorrow, can't wait to unlock more game features and especially get a little clan on the go :D

This beta has kept me hooked, more so than the Halo 3 beta, November is going to be a good month.

that's pretty much how i feel. after the first day i felt i had scratched far beyond the surface. there's not much that sets players apart in this game.

there's no movement in the game that makes the other person in the game have to aim. in halo 2 the majority of players don't know about the stuff that could make them really good at the game, like practicing their strafe, jumping & gandhi hopping, and wall hugging. you have to be moving your reticule precisely at points on the map every second. and if you play in a tourney, you have to constantly use teamwork and keep talking. i don't see any of that depth in cod4. i like the game alot, and it's promising, but it kills me inside that there's not more to it that you can practice to set yourself apart.

Wow, increasing max level while most of countries don't have access to the beta (and don't even know when will).
Dude its needed. I just played a game where I got like 800+ experience points in one match and it all went to nothing!

Do you guys shoot from the hip or aim down your sights?
Besides Sniper and Shotti I can't really see anything once I start shooting.
I'm about a 1/1 kill death ratio right now but have had far better success in all the other COD's.
Anyone else have this problem? I get someone in my sights I start shooting if the first 2 shots don't kill him forget about it. Between the recoil and the scopes I can't see shit.
I repeat this excludes Sotti and sniper where I don't have this issue.

BTW I went into one game with a light machine gun and did NOT have steady hand. Tried shooting a guy from the hip 10 feet away as he was facing the other way, it must have taken over 20 shots. Not calling it lag I'm calling it WTF?

I pretty much always aim down the sights. I primarily use the M4 w/ RDS. I should probably learn to shoot from the hip a bit more in those quick-draw-oh-shit-there's-someone-right-in-front-of-me situations, but I don't always do it.

I've stumbled into rooms and been pitted against parties of 4-6 clan members while I am alone or only with a couple buddies too many times to believe any of that. If you know the map you're on and know strategy and use it well, you can wipe the floor with people. If you mindlessly run around and use no teamwork you will lose.

it has bullet lag and hit detection issues, same as every other p2p game on xbox live or any other service. unless they do something drastic to the netcode, international play is a total no-go for this game. the lag is gears of war-level bad at times.

yeah, i really like the game, but the hit detection is bullshit.

ive put so many shots into guys, when they were standing still even, and they dont die then usually wind up killing me.

are you guys sure that it has nothing to do with a sort of conefire? you try aiming an automatic weapon and holding the trigger and see how accurate you are.

for those that don't realize: Just because your reticle is on the target does not guarantee a hit, this is why it is best to burst fire (improves accuracy) and also why the targeting reticle is so big when you are moving.
