COD4 PC Screenshots

I thought COD4 was console exclusive? :lol

Consoles am pwned by pcs again. shit. :(

Uhh... It never was. Multi-plat since day one.

It surprises me that there are still people who are in the dark about what COD4 is all about. At this rate, I should be expecting "PS3 runs at 60 FPS, right?" comments.

The answer is "Yes, the PS3 version runs at 60 FPS." BTW.

360 gamers are different because they're also hoping that COD4 will be comparable to Killzone 2 visually. I didn't want to single out anyone but it's clear which specific console fans are downplaying COD4's graphics. They don't mind saying that Halo3 looks better since it's already accepted that Halo 3's graphics aren't even that impressive technically.
What are you talking about? Seriously...what the hell are you talking about? Just because you're insecure about your console purchase doesn't mean everyone else is. I'm a 360 owner and I loved Call of Duty 4 during the Beta. Asside from a few problems, which will probably be fixed and were minor anyway, I can't wait for it. Not to mention, I bought Halo 3 and love it and have played it every day. I don't think anyone, asside from a few fanboys, will say that Halo 3 has the best graphics. They're very good when you consider the scale and the amount of stuff going on, but they're no Gears of War.

I don't see why everyone is trying to claim this is going to be better in one form or another. Infinity Ward has never played favorites. I would imagine Call of Duty 4 is going to be exactly the same on all the platforms, with the exception of the controls. ANd that pretty much depends on the individual person.

I have every console in addition to my PC so I don't play favorites. I think you misread my point. The 360 owners are the ones that are not downplaying COD4 because it doesn't threaten another game on their system. I don't think that 360 fanboys are any better than fanboys of other systems but in this case, they obviously want COD 4 to be good.

Dear 9800GTX,

Please hurry up and get here.

There're rumours that it won't be a huge leap over the 8800. I hope they were wrong but I wouldn't be surprised since ATI/AMD has done a bad job of pushing Nvidia lately.

I really don't think any console fanboy is trying to downplay this game because it's going to be on the console as well. If anything, PC fanboys will be trumpeting the game as being back on its home. Like I said earlier, the game will be the same on all the platforms. No reason to call ownage for any platform.

Dear Jackson,

I will be arriving sometime in the November 2007 timeframe. I will not make it on time for COD4's launch, but I should be here by the end of the month.

Did you know I am rumored to double the performance of the 8800 Ultra?

All the best,
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX - "The Way It's Meant To Be Played."

PS - Do not forget to take a look at my 9800 GTS brother.

Where are you hearing this from?

All the speculation I've come across point to a single new high end card being released in November, and that likely being an Ultra, with gtx and gts not hitting until early 08.

Erik Larsson of X-bit Labs

I could believe the doubling of performance or at the "least giant leap".

Also, to only have a high end card is odd since I highly doubt the GPU yield rate for 9800 GTX is that high. Thus, a 9800 GTS is highly possible.

The way people are rationalizing it is that it makes no sense for nvidia to cannibalize it's own sales. But there is definitely a new card coming because this was promised during a call to investors.

:/ that article is older than dirt btw.

I think there will be a giant leap for DX 10 performance. The 8800 was a beast in DX9 but not so much in DX10. Nvidia usually get the "next-gen" features right the 2nd time. See their history with T&L, anti-aliasing, Shader 3.0 for examples. I don't expect that a single 9800 GTX would perform the same as a pair of 8800 GTX for DX9 games though.

By all current reports, all that will be out this year are 8800GT and an updated 8800GTS. Then a dual 8800 GPU on a single board early next year.

Anyways... Is co-op confirmed for the final game?

@Phife,

Nice try, but to me, the COD4 shots look a hell of a lot better than those QW shots.

Hopefully the PC version will have good performance, IQ is a given over the 360 version, but the 60fps is appealing.
Everyone should just read my quote. I said that QW has better textures and is on par in regards to complexity of models etc. I didn't say it looks better overall, that's debatable. CoD4 seems to have better lightning. Wether you want messy textures with great lightning or a clean look with great textures and maybe not as much post processing effects is up to personal preference.

I gave QW as an example because it's getting shunned for it's gfx, it's multiplayer only with up to 32 people and it's based on a spruced up Doom 3 engine, which is ancient times. CoD4 should be able to best it in any regards, big time. This is not happening - by far.

And the shots don't look a lot better.

1st pic: Pretty much a mess, not much to be seen though because of the lightning strike
2nd pic: Character models are OK (pretty much QW) but what's with the lack of dynamic shadows? There's light reflecting everywhere but the corpses don't drop the hint of a shadow (yes QW has a dynamic shadow system) shadows for other models can't be seen from this perspective
3rd pic: Shadowmaps look pretty cool on the guy but the foliage is exactly like QWs and the woods look downright ugly
4th pic: Models are on par with QW
5th pic: Not much to be seen due to shockwave (QW has those kind of effects as well) but the hand looks pretty laughable with those textures
6th pic: Weapon model looks underwhelming, ground textures seem lacking as well but not much to be seen because of the oversaturated look
7th pic: Best pic of the bunch, the lightning looks believable and textures don't look like a total mess

Like I said, the game looks good but it sure doesn't deserve the "Best GFX" crown.

I'm getting tired of waiting for Nvidia to release their next damn card. I want to play through the PC version of Bioshock, and I'm not doing it at anything less than 1920*1200 at 60fps. Also, COD4 and Crysis demos, for crying out loud.

If you don't use AA, the 8800 GTX ultra should be able to allow you to do that although there were will still be some drops to 30fps or so.

But it's not exclusive to the PS3 which apparently matters more to some people here.

That's just lame... Why shouldn't all three sides enjoy the awesomeness of CoD4? I don't understand... It's seemingly a well made mulit-platform title which everyone can enjoy, which is a breathe of fresh air... I can't wait to pick it up on the 360/PS3 (my comp will run it fine, but don't have nearly enough friends with a good rig, but more than enough PS3/360 owning friends) based on whichever more of my friends end up going with if they're dead on the same... Just to counter:

All PC and PS3 owners should rejoice and enjoy the awesomeness that is CoD4 :D

No... You don't count... Even though the PS3 version runs at a minimum 60fps as well... Get with the program...
Yea, I kinda forget about the PS3 sometimes...just like IW seems to have done with regards to betas and demos.

I hope the PS3 will have a demo before launch. I know we have a couple of IW dudes here, it'd be nice if one of them would hint at it or indeed outright confirm it :p

CoD2 all over again.

Don't be mistaken, there weren't any infinitely respawning enemies. Is there a crap-ton of enemies to kill? Yes. Will they keep coming until you hit a magical point? No. You can snipe 'em all before proceeding if you wish.

I agree. Everyone should enjoy COD4 if it really delivers on its promise. There're so few 60fps shooters any more on consoles. Some people make too big a deal about exclusivity. It's like they can't like a game if it's also available on another system. You only have to look at DMC4, Haze, etc. as examples. I don't want to single out any group since it happens equally but in this case, it's mostly the PS3 owners that are hoping that COD4 won't turn out that good even though it's available on the PS3. And that's mostly because COD4's graphics were considered to be comparable to KZ2 by some at E3. It's pretty obvious that someone is being disingenuous when he claims that Halo 3 is superior visually to COD4. Halo 3 might have had great artistic direction but it wasn't called "Halo HD" for no reason.
