College Football 2006/2007 Bowls: Keep it going!

I love the rise of Rutgers over the past couple of years, but to me, the real feel-good story this season is Wake Forest going from 4-7 to 11-2 and conference champs. It hasn't even received much press here in the Triangle for some reason. I know this is ACC basketball country, but come on.

Alright Houston, you and your fancypants quarterback are on notice.

I'll be at the game, I am intrested to see how many fans from the schools there are since both schools are pretty far away.

How could he resist Tha O.B.?

I honestly don't know, dude. The place is emptier than a pizza box at a Weight Watchers convention so he could give his extended family season tickets for life (life!!!). The chance to see a great barroom brawl every year (assuming they keep scheduling Florida International) is a major selling point too.

We're losing our biggest stars on offense and defense (hell, the best in the Pac-10 at their positions), but I still have high hopes for next year's team. Forsett's pretty good, and maybe our QB will be more consistent...

When I was walking back to my ride at Tha' RB on Saturday night a guy behind us was talking shit on his friends from SC and their response to him was, "Why are you talking shit on us? You're going to go there to play football soon." to which he quickly replied, "I'm being recruited by SC and Cal. After seeing the game today I'm leaning towards Cal."

Now this is all hearsay from some dude on an internet message board (curse me for not getting the guy's name!) but I swear it's 100% DeWayne Walker Truf. I'd rather he have decided to come play for real black men in Westwood but I'll take Cal getting a recruit over Troy any day.

I have to confess I harbored some disdain for Rutgers in the beginning of the season (probably because New York City was trying to claim it as their college football team) but I definitely did a 180 after watching the Louisville game. That shit was something else.

Wake Forest, well I've liked that story from the beginning. lol, ACC.

Out of UC solidarity, I won't post Kara's prediction from the same page. :P

Oh man, were they that bad? I remember saying Wazzu was going to be the dark horse from the Pac-10. (Damn you, Oregon State! It's always you that comes out of nowhere.) And that Cal and the Sun Devils were the most overrated teams in the conference (whoops!). :lol

I remember saying we could go 9-3 or 8-4 in the regular season too. Stupid homer predictions. :lol

Excellent! I'll be sure to pick up an extra Carolina shirt for you. ;)

And really, where else would you get to see airplanes flying banners with your name on them?

...and a healthy DeShawn Wynn? He's a great back and will have holes created by one of the best college fullbacks I've ever seen in Billy Latsko. And the fastest man alive in Harvin? Leak has made some boneheaded plays (I blame the urban meyer transition - spread offense, options, etc.. they've expected Leak to turn into a swiss army quarterback) but he's still the best pure passer in America (imo) and he has as many tools as Ohio State on his side of the ball: Dallas Baker, Andre Caldwell and the two Cornelius's.

They have one month to get their offense in order. And one month to recover from a brutal SEC schedule. For people to file this game away already is a huge mistake.

That quote is not from me, but from Iceman. He posted it in the old thread so I'm just going to put it here.

no, he probably is. Troy Smith even looks up to him. Leak's talent is amazing, the playcalling he is subject to is not always so much.

*repeat post from the other thread*

I'm afraid I'm going to need 3 separate independent sources that say Troy Smith looks up to him.

I can list at least 10 QBs in the country I'd rather have than Leak. Actually, anyone that doesn't fold when the game is on the line would be a better QB candidate than Leak. You guys have a better shot at winning if you start Tebow.

Nah, I was just referring to your prediction for Cal. Something along the lines of "no shot at the conference title." :P

Well in all fairness it took a small college athletics miracle for that to happen. :lol

To be totally cereal though I know I was a major douche to Cal towards the beginning of the year. Too much hype (particularly the manufacturing of a rivalry with SC on ESPN) and the drubbing in Knoxville which gave the SEC homers something to snipe at us with rubbed me the wrong way (that and I'm sure everyone knows by now I'm a major "The sky is falling!" sports commentator). But now I have seen the light and for one would like to welcome our new Tedford overlords.

He just passed Danny Weurful for the most passing yards of any Florida QB. I seem to remember he being a pretty good quarterback.

Comments like this show why you have no business commenting on Florida as a football team. You just showed how ignorant you are, congrats.

Try espn.com and the video titled "Troy Smith on Florida."

Yeah, you're right. Clearly you've watched enough Ohio State games to know that they haven't faired well against teams with running QBs and absolutely bitchslap shitty QBs who crack under pressure, a la Chris Leak.

Believe me, if I was vying for the respect of people who considered Chris Leak a great passer, I'd start by buying a Rex Grossman jersey, yet another awesome Florida QB. :lol

Say what you want about Michigan fans, but at least when a QB sucks they don't lie about it.

Crack under pressure. Honestly, are you that stupid? Did you even watch the SECCG? Leak makes two mistakes, and he comes back to orchestrate one of the great comebacks in SECCG history.

Tebow is a freshman, and Leak is a senior. Only and idiot would not go with your senior leader who has led you to 12-1, but that is why I wouldn't put it past you.

Dude don't ever compare the two again, Chris is inferior in every way (and hasn't he played more games than wuerffel did, I am pretty sure big Danny D didn'tplay much as a frosh)

:lol Leak orchestrated the Arkansas special teams breakdown, huh? :lol :lol

I don't know if I'd rate Leak that high. He has the mechanics, but he's a bit shakey at times. He's never been outstanding IMO. Wuerffel is still the best Gator QB since Spurrier. Wuerffel, after all, stole the starting position from a heisman hopeful, so you bet your ass he was good. I just don't rate Leak that high. I see him getting a late pick in the draft, and then getting cut in the preseason. It's his decision-making that's questionable. PEACE.

exactly. leak is probably a first day pick, but he's not the best qb in the country by any stretch. it's all mental with him... if he comes into the championship game with a stonewall mental tenacity, then the game could be close. but if he starts making mistakes and then running in quicksand again, trying to overplay the game, then it could turn ugly quick.

Sirpopozao :lol

Man, I knew someone was eventually going to come with that joke :). It's just as funny as I thought it would be in my mind. :lol :lol

P.S: Kevin Federline will be the next coach of Tha U or Alabama.

I know the college football gods have been incredibly merciful with me this year and delivered me from the desert of defeat and a marauding horde of Cajuns but if this could also be arranged I would... I don't know do something awesome for the world.

In other news...

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;...ug=ap-t25-nebraska-callahan&prov=ap&type=lgns

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska's Bill Callahan apologized to Cornhuskers fans Monday for his coaching performance in the Big 12 championship game.

But Callahan wouldn't specify areas where he fell short in the 21-7 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.

"I was disappointed in everything I did," Callahan told reporters on a conference call. "I could have done a better job. I just didn't do enough. As I go through the week, I'm taking inventory of where we've got to get better, what changes we have to make. If we have to change some things, I'm going to change them. I'm looking at it really hard."

Cold Pizzza just set up a 'playoff' and tell me how you wouldn't wanna watch these games:

OSU v Boise State
LSU v USC
Michigan v Louisville
Florida v Wisconsin

Skip had it set up so this would be the second round:
-OSU v LSU
-Michigan v Florida

Championship
LSU v Michigan

LSU has the upset over Ohio State, and you know a tournament would produce one or two upsets. But seriously, is there anyone here that wouldn't be glued to their TV set for each and every one of those games?

I think it's horseshit that OSU (or any #1/#2 team for that matter) would go undefeated against a hard schedule, and then have to risk losing it to a Boise St.

The reason why the NCAA tournament works in the early rounds is because the field is so large, that the disparity between a 1 v 16 (64th in actuality) is so vast, it is essentially a bye.

Why would OSU ever schedule a top tier 1A school in their OOC, again? Why risk getting a loss and keeping you from the tournament?

It should be 6 teams .. with the 1st and 2nd seeds getting a first round bye AND playing their games on home field. Make the 3-6 teams run the gauntlet. Don't punish excellence.

3 big 10 teams, 2 SEC teams, no ACC, 1 pac 10, no big 12, 1 big east, 1 Wac. I think a lot of people would pass. I think there would still be controversy too because Wisconsin would get in over OU

Exactly games like UT/Cal, USC/Nebraska and Arks, Texas/OSU, OU/Oregon Louisville/Miami would never happen. OOC games would turn to shit.

Well, to be honest, Skip said he'd replace Wisconsin with Oklahoma. He just went off the end of the year Top 10 poll. But this would also give some leeway as well, because coaches voting would be able to move their ballots so the top 8 teams in the country would get in as opposed to just having to choose between 2 teams to play for the championship.

And Tox-- OSU goes undefeated so that they CAN play Boise State in the first round and not USC or Florida.

Exactly games like UT/Cal, Texas/OSU, OU/Oregon Louisville/Miami would never happen.
Yeah, they would, because you still have to have a strong enough schedule to impress the people putting you into the top 8. Look at college basketball-- UNC has already played Kentucky and Indiana, Duke's played Illinois... top teams regularly schedule hard as hell OOC teams so that if they DO lose a game they have that legitimacy to fall back on.

So if Ohio State slips up in the Big 10 and loses to say Wisconsin they can turn around and say "Well not only did we beat Michigan, Penn State and Iowa, but we also beat Texas and Cal (example, not real)". teams would be practically forced to schedule at least one tough OOC team.

Getting to play a mid-major isnt reward enough? If you cant beat Boise St you arent excellence. You should be able to go into their house and spot them 10 points to start the game and still win 10 out of 10 times.

Brian Fellows said:

Exactly. If you are that good to be #1, then beating a mid-major should be nothing.

I think that line up of teams shows why the tournament WILL NOT work. If you go strictly by seeding, it will almost always be SEC/BIG10 or SEC/PAC10 dominated. Then conversely, if you limit the amount of teams each conference can send in .. you will cheat out 1 or 2 teams every year. Is that the kind of tournament we want?

That's why keeping it as small as possible is more ideal.

FSU is making a big push towards Louisiana recruits which leads some folks to believe that we might be getting Jimbo as has been rumored. Bobby is personally visiting Chad Jones (Rivals #1 safety prospect) today and we're also going after Stefan Francois (Rivals #8 safety). I'm thinking if we ended up with both of these guys, one might move to the CB position or perhaps LB mainly because of Myron Rolle who just won TSN's ACC Freshman Defensive POTY.

Look, it's Boise St this year ... but it could be Wisconsin, Arkansas, WV, etc etc.

I mean no offense, this is honest, but you guys still have great recruiting? I didn't know Bobby could still pull that kind of weight with all the talk from your boosters.

Why shouldn't it by Boise St.? They went undefeated, didn't they?

I call B.S. Look at Wisconsin. One loss all year and they had no shot at the national championship. Why? Because they had a powder puff schedule outside of playing Michigan. Teams that seriously want to contend need at least one top 25 non-conference foe in their schedule. Either that or they have to go undefeated.

I heard that Jimbo was a Bowden (married in) and that is who Bobby is picking to replace his son and then take over the program is there any truth to this?
