So now RR is NOT a done deal for Bama.

This guy is turning out to be pretty pathetic.

I don't know, I would think staying at your alma mater shows more than moving for the money, even if he did pull a Frank Beamer in doing so...

P.S: The Jasper comments are hilarious :).

Anyone want to take a guess at who they go after next so far we have
Confirmed:
-Steve Spurrier
-Rich Rodriguez
-Nick Saban

Unconfirmed/rumored:
Frank Beamer

Anyone know of anyone else?

If they cant get Houston Nutt of Arkansas, then....

I'm gonna say the Wake Forest coach goes to Bama. That's my pick.

I haven't had a chance to talk to hear anything from Chow's son about how his dad is feeling these days, but I'm still pretty certain he would've preferred Leinart. It seemed like such a logical choice but that's probably just homerism.

I can see Chow preferring Leinart simply because he already knows how to scheme for him (not that Chow couldn't scheme for any quarterback with a modicum of talent). I don't think Vince Young is overrated by any means but besides the obvious Texas connection I think he was drafted from a business standpoint. A player like that puts asses in seats, gets jerseys off the racks and attracts fans from outside the local area. He's kind of like Michael Vick [insert quip against Vick here if you're a hater].

If Booty doesn't come up big in the Rose Bowl then I promise the fans will start talking about Sanchez for starter. Sure it's fun having a QB named Booty but I think most people around here feel Sanchez has the better arm. People were sick of Booty's deflections BEFORE the OSU game. Now that passes deflected at the line have sort of cost us two games it's gonna be an even bigger thing.

Well in all fairness to Mr. Booty Eric McNeal's beautiful interception in Tha' RB was a once in a lifetime feat of athleticism (unlike the tip in Corvallis, which was just awful). I'm familiar with Sanchez because he played football at my hometown's high school while they were on a run even my jaded Trinity League ass had to respect and I think he's the better quarterback. Booty is technically proficient but he gets rattled way too easily (kind of like Ben Olson over here in Westwood). Not everyone in the Pac-10 has our fearsome front four but now the cat's out of the bag on how to beat him.

I won't lie I, like most USC fans, am still very bitter about that game. I don't deny that Young is exceptionally athletic but I don't know that I'd want him QBing my favorite team. Personally I'm not fond of the "he's just a winner" mantra. But that's just my stat wacky approach.

Perhaps, but this is USC and our last two QBs were Heisman trophy winners. If you're getting passes tipped and having us lose games do you think the average uneducated USC fan is gonna care? It's a tough situation and I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions it requires. I think we'll be fine at QB next year regardless of who gets the nod. I'm really worried about WR next year. Last time we broke in a bunch of new WR we had this guy Reggie Bush to ease the transition, not so much this time.

BTW ASU, Sarkisian and Kiffen are both available! You know you want one of them!

Also, haha, Mike Price. That's really not the best list of coaches ever.

Damn it, I wanted Norm Chow. Maybe he'll sign on at Stanford, lol. Actually, from what I remember, he was interested in them the last time they had a vacancy, but they passed him over for the dude from Pitt. Dumbasses. What are the odds he'll still be interested?

Was there any doubt Arizona State would half ass their coaching search? They should be a perennial Pac-10 contender but that makes too much sense for the AD over there.

As for Chow at Stanford... :lol . Not only did they spurn him but that program is in shambles and it's going to take some major elbow grease just to get it up to .500 level. On the plus side they did have the toughest schedule in the country last season (according to that Pac-10 homer Sagarin) so things can only go up. Thanks for helping us crack the top 25 in the BCS, Stanford. :lol

No, I don't. The drop-off at quarterback was bound to happen with Norm Chow gone though. He'd probably have concocted some crazy offense that used an awful late release to its advantage and SC would win every game Booty started in.

Folks, as I just posted on another thread, it is time for true confessions as I prepare to depart Aggieland. Ranger 65 is Dr. Gates ('65 because that is my college class and Ranger because he's buried in my front yard). I have enjoyed reading you all for the past four and a half years -- well, at least most of you. You are all hard core Aggies, and I have listened and paid more attention to you than you might imagine. Good luck to all of you in the future. Bob Gates

I just got some call on my cell phone from a guy named Mal Moore, said something about wanting me to be the next football coach at Alabama, offered my 2 million dollars year too.

I thought about it but after having some discussions with my boss my hospital, he offered me a 10% pay increase and promised to upgrade the hospital faclities so I declined the offer.

If LSU and Nebraska couldn't get Nutt when things were looking bleak for Arkansas, Alabama's sure not going to get him now that we're on the rise again.

I'm ok, been playing my new Wii, which is shawsome.

I've had a bit of disconnect with Bama the last few weeks, and wasn't sure about the AD after what happened to Shula. And wasn't sure about RR. Getting him would have been a full circle after Fran. Would have felt icky for awhile. Sure, Auburn might not have a problem with stealing coaches (Hi Ole Miss!) but not sure if I wanted Bama to try and do so.

Really, the AD fuxxored it up with Shula, IMO. Though they didn't do anything wrong with the deal, this was just RR forcing his desired team (WV) to cough up $$$ and Facilities.

Bama is still a top of the line football facility. Good recruiting base in the south. Just need a coach and a new BoT to not get heavy handed if you have a down year (like this year!)

PS: Congrats to Demeco Ryans and Mark Anderson for ownzerings the NFL their first year.

Wii Sports 4 L4fe

Oh, and if Bama somehow gets H. Nutt as their coach, I'm forfeiting my fanship into Bama, until he's gone. I can't stand that guy.

:lol

Anyway I just went to bama's rivals site to see what was happening, so far names fans are throwing out are:
Tedford
Paul Johnson
Jimbo Fisher

A few fans have asked why Cutcliffe and Kines are potential canidates and a few people are joking that they should go back and tell Shula they are sorry.

Personally I think Bama should maybe time a break for a week and collect themselves and try to find someone in 1-AA or get an assistant coach from some where. They just aren't going to be able to pull a coach with a secure job away right now and are better off going to look for someone who is looking to be a head coach

Yup... don't know what the sentiment is like in Bama, but I thought Shula had the program on the right track despite a rough 2006.

Mark May just said Adrian Peterson runs like Walter Payton.

I'm sorry, but if I'm the Lions, I'd grab him in the first round. It can never hurt to have a sweet RB backing up a sweet RB. Could you imagine a backfield of Adrian Peterson and Kevin Jones?

Then you wait and try to snag Russel in the second round.

Troy Smith. I'm so shocked. I can't believe it.

Happy Heisman, Troy!

edit: heh, jim tressel looks like he's gonna cry.

don't even speak of such heresy! either about him going to the lions or sharing time at RB! ;)

congrats to Troy Smith btw
he needs to be thanking AD though, cause he's the main reason Troy got the award ;)

McFadden is going to be a BEAST next year. man, that guy leaves me for a loss for words sometimes. wow. he has to be next years front runner.

Yeah there is no doubt he will definately be the front runner coming into next year, as of right now there isn't a back that will compare to him (this is assuming of course that Peterson goes pro)

Percy Harvin at full strength? Tim Tebow running a full offense? UNTHINKABLE!

ASU, for when no one else will hire you!

I don't get this strategy (assuming there was one) of hiring a coach that was supposedly on the rise (Koetter) and having him fail terribly to build up the program. So then we hire some has-been who couldn't find a job in any BCS conference until ASU rolls up and says hi. I'm not so sure I can adequately express my distaste right now but let me say that I will be continuing to call for the firing of ASU's head coach.

Indeed. The Gators' 2007 offense will be the stuff of legends. As long as Tebow can hit those open receivers, we will finally see the Urban Meyer offense run the way it was intended. The Urban Era of Terror has only just begun for the SEC. We're putting the rest of the country on notice. :D PEACE.

I understand where you're coming from but in all honesty they could have done a lot worse than Erickson (Mike Price anyone?). The guy took Oregon State to a BCS bowl and won 2 national championships at Tha' U. He might be on the downside but at least he won't be learning on the job like Dorrell has.

Speaking of Pac-10 coaching, looks like Nick Aliotti has been interviewed by Stanford to take over that train wreck. Not sure if he's a front runner or anything though.

Lastly, St. Patrick is out indefinitely with a concussion (probably from Maualuga's hit). Looks like Big Ben Jr. will get the nod for the Emerald Bowl (this is good news for you, Noles-Age).

I'm hoping his name can help to get some good recruits, and I think he will be able to win a few big games, maybe even some 9-10 win seasons. He was the best choice out of the one that were listed but I don't see him taking us to the Rose, let alone a Nat. Championship.

Has anyone found the lists of the gift packages the players and coaches get for going to the bowls?

I love those lists every year, but I've yet to see it for this year.

Rainey played and Lakeland won the state championship over St. Thomas Aquinas. He racked up 276 yards on the ground -- FHSAA will be meeting later this week I believe to investigate the claims.

Also, FSU isnt sending the Marching Chiefs to the Emerald Bowl due to cost. :lol

poor troy smith.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/ncaa/12/12/smith.trophy.ap/index.html?cnn=yes
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A haggard Troy Smith's Heisman Trophy was shipped home because airport security would not allow the Ohio State quarterback to take it on the plane Tuesday.

Smith, who won the award on Saturday night, arrived at Port Columbus International Airport from New York on Tuesday -- without the most prestigious individual award in college football.

After Eddie George won the 1995 Heisman, the tip of the right index finger on the bronze statuette was broken and another finger was bent as it passed through an airport X-ray machine in New York.

Smith said it wasn't difficult letting go of the 35-pound bronze award.

"No, because Eddie's finger got bent," Smith said with a grin. "I don't want that to happen to mine."

Ohio State sports information director Steve Snapp said it was a necessary precaution to have the award sent separately.

"We decided to have it shipped. That's much easier," Snapp said. "How times have changed. Eddie carried it on the plane and put it in the seat next to him. Security wouldn't allow that this time."

Smith, wearing a black leather jacket with the Heisman insignia on back, was accompanied by his position coach, Joe Daniels, along with fellow team captains Doug Datish, David Patterson and Quinn Pitcock. All had joined him at the Heisman dinner on Monday night.

Daniels said Smith would not have trouble refocusing on the national championship game after winning the award.

"We don't have to worry about getting him back down to earth," Daniels said. "He's pretty grounded."

While Smith took great pains to give credit to his offensive linemen and his teammates for helping him win the award, Datish said the Heisman still is an individual award.

"None of that trophy's mine," he said. "He earned it."

Not far from where Smith and the other Buckeyes spoke in an airport conference room, a store was selling Ohio State jerseys bearing Smith's No. 10 for $59.99.

He was greeted by Ohio State fans requesting autographs, many curious airport workers.

The past week has been a whirl for Smith. He flew out on Wednesday to Orlando for an awards ceremony, then made his first trip to New York on Friday.

"I've heard a million clicks of a camera, seen so many flashes of light I'm immune to it all," Smith said of the media attention.

In a week of firsts for the fifth-year senior from Cleveland, Smith wore a tuxedo for the first time at Monday night's dinner.

"It was a beautiful weekend," he said.

Smith was touched by being officially admitted to the fraternity of Heisman winners at the dinner. The 1981 winner, Southern California's Marcus Allen, gave a moving speech on the 25th anniversary of his big night, letting his emotions flow as he spoke about what the award has meant to him.

Smith said he looked forward to getting to his apartment and getting some rest. He was worn down by all the questions and attention.

"It's enough about me," he said. "The last couple of days has not been too much for me to handle, but enough for me to handle, and now it's about time to get back to the people who helped me get where I am."

The top-ranked Buckeyes (12-0) meet No. 2 Florida (12-1) in the BCS national championship game on Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz. Ohio State had workouts last week while Smith was on the awards circuit.

"I feel bad I haven't been there with my teammates," he said. "They've been battling through some practices."
Does anybody not like this guy?

"In the eyes of the national media, you have no business being on the same field with this team. Is that motivation?

Meyer responded
"See, I've learned. I made comments in this room before (that were criticized)," Meyer said after counting from 10 to one. "Watch how mature I am. You're going to hear a lot of nonsense out of my mouth from here on out.
"I'm going to start talking like a lot of these other coaches. ... I think we're going to take it one game at a time. We're going to play very hard. Ohio State's got great players. How's that?"
Meyer did eventually say he liked the underdog role in this game.
"I think that's great motivation," he said. "This is all about getting your players ready to play."
Meyer has some of the same sarcasm Spurrier had. I love it. :lol :lol :lol

I berieve, do you? We weren't supposed to survive this schedule with even one loss. We weren't able to handle Arkansas. Now we're not supposed to beat OSU. **** it, being the underdog has worked well for us so far. That analysis, though brief, was spot-on. I think our secondary is better than we get credit for. We have one good corner and two heavy hitters at safety. It's our linebackers that have been lame this season IMO. PEACE.
