I'm enjoying NIU being in a BCS bowl solely because it seems it pisses ESPN the hell off for some reason. That team has Vickie Guerrero level heat with ESPN's commentators.

I can sit back and laugh at it now that I know that them kicking OU out of the BCS didn't screw over Tech in the bowl invites. I had thought that we were Holiday or Meineke if OU was in the BCS but we would drop to the lower Pinstripe/Heart of Dallas/Liberty Bowl tier if NIU bumped them to the Cotton (we ended up getting Meineke in Houston). Looks like we got bailed out by OSU dropping further than anybody thought.

Here's hoping OSU and Purdue have a better attendance turnout than Tech and Northwestern had a few years ago when I went to that game. 11am kickoff on New Year's Day in freezing cold weather against a team none of our fans care about made for a pretty terrible turnout; official stats say attendance was about 40k but trust me it was NOWHERE close to that.

I think we were locked into the Alamo as long as KSU and OU made a BCS bowl. As soon as OU got bumped, all the other bowls had made plans and we were left with the leftovers.

I understand it's politics and all, and it could definitely be worse--it's a New Year's Day bowl against an opponent we should beat, and it's in our recruiting territory (and tickets will be cheap, although I'm not sure if I'm going).

I have updated the BCS picks and we already have a winner!

Congratulations to BattleZone, here are the standings prior to the champ game:

So an early victory. That is what Lonestar gets for being a Bama homer. Did we ever decide on a prize? Moral victory?

Thanks. I was wondering what happened to everybody's favorite frat bro.

Only Garcia.

I tried to emulate the injury. I did these because despite liking my hands, I know this is an impossible injury. I know this so much that I even did it with my right hand. Garcia must love peace much harder than I love knowing things.

From the Big10 blog:

The announced attendance for Saturday's game was just 41,260, or about 23,000 fewer fans than at last year's inaugural title game. Whole sections in the upper end zones and corners of Lucas Oil were empty, especially on the Wisconsin side. The Big Ten anticipated a smaller crowd than last year because of the unusual circumstances of the Badgers' season, but the league was hoping to cross the 50,000 mark through strong walk-up sales. By comparison, the ACC title game -- usually the butt of bad-attendance jokes -- drew 64,778 on Saturday. The Pac-12 title game between UCLA and Stanford was held at Stanford on Friday. The announced crowd: 31,622.

So for no particular reason I browsed the bowl selection CFB Gaf thread from 6 years ago. It was a year before I started posting, but other than that most of you guys are all there. There have only been a handful of new faces to join this community in a 6 year time span which amazes me. Collectively we're a kind and accepting group of posters, it's perplexing as to why we have been growing in size the same rate as Detroit.

edit: Cyan, you should look into un-banning threeball. He made some mistakes by being a Microsoft fanboy/troll, but surely he deserves another chance after a 6 year exile.

Huh, that was an unfortunate time. I was banned during the Championship game on my only ban ever. And it was for NFL shenanigans!

I am genuinely scared of the NIU game. A loss to Louisville would have been embarrassing but at least they're a major conference (and future interconference) foe. If we find a way to lose to NIU, it'll set us back years..

Yeah, there's no way there were 65k attending the ACC title game. I've seen more people at a Panthers preseason game in that stadium.

Don't worry, EJ Manuel's got this.

No way that many were at the ACC game. Maybe that's how many tickets they sold.

SECCG attendance was 75,624. And those people were actually there.

I see I was repping my boy Xavier Lee hard back then. Those were dark times for the program. Very, very dark (and no that isn't a racist comments, jackasses). I got to meet him at a Downtown Getdown -- look at him dwarfing over me..

LoBo went out with a helluva bowl game at least. :) I honestly can't remember if Kara ever "paid up" on the avatar bet. I guess no one won the game now technically!

With how much Meier talked about this Trickett fella in 2006, an offensive line coach (and I can't keep up with alot of coaches) how did that guy turn out?

Haha, been a little topsy-turvy but on the whole, Trick Daddy has done amazing things. I think if Jimbo had ever conceded OC duties, we'd be much better off. :( Saban alone definitely is a coaching dream team.

So a loss then.

Hey, man. You can't compete with Drew Weatherford, of the fighting Weatherfords, pride of the Land O' Lakes High School Gators.

Fun fact, Logan Payne, a teammate of Weatherford actually did make it to the NFL. He was (and I guess is) pretty much a practice squad player, but made the Seahawks, who were pretty much a practice squad team at the time (right bluemax?), before he got his knee smashed in like his first game and hasn't made it back.

I forgot to submit picks again this week. I think I missed 3 weeks, maybe 4. Ah well, it was still fun playing.

I guess BYU-SDSU should make for a fun bowl game. My dad and I are considering a trip out to see the game, but those pre-Christmas games are always tough to manage with schedules.

I clicked on that lost Week 14 thread, then hit the pokeball, expecting to find myself in the warm throes of OT. Instead, I found myself in a dark, lonely, unfamiliar place, filled with talk of anime and pop music. What was that strange land?

The continual defensive lapses by this program on the road under a defense-first coach make you wonder. The Omaha World-Herald's Sam McKewon offered this stat Monday: In the Huskers' past 17 games away from home, they are giving up an average of 30.3 points and 400 yards per game. Record in those games: 8-9. (The offense isn't helping much, either, as Nebraska has an unfathomable minus-27 turnover margin and 40 giveaways in those 17 games.)

Nothing quite like a good Monday wrap-up after a weekend of college foo-
