We have pre-season polls to ensure an SEC team makes it to the championship game. If an SEC team starts high and wins 11-12 games, there is a good chance they will go to the MNC. If an SEC team starts low and wins 11-12 games (which will ensure them beating a number of ranked teams, since so many SEC teams start ranked) it ensures an SEC team goes to the championship. The whole thing is set up in favor of the SEC since the media has partial control over the polls, and the SEC brings the media the most eyeballs. They further cement this mid-season by claiming a low/unranked SEC team beating an high ranked SEC team means the conference is deep. But when any other team beats a well ranked conference opponent, it means that conference is weak.

Teams need to start scheduling SECSECSEC teams and beating them.

Like Texas did.

We just hired Joker Phillips as a recruiting coordinator and receivers coach. I don't know how I feel about this. I don't mean I'm conflicted. I just have zero idea.

It's a good hire. Joker has a tooooon of experience as a receivers coach and is a tireless recruiter.

Yep, SEC teams are famous for playing strong opponents outside of their conference. That is totally what teams should do, be willing to play SEC teams. Problem solved.

That seems a bit sodium-chloridey there.

It's not. FSU underperformed this year and I don't care. Even if we went undefeated the computers would have kept us out of the MNC, I think. We don't deserve it anyway if we are still choking on teams like NC State and almost Georgia Tech.

Florida started ranked 23 and very nearly made it in to the national championship game. How? They beat a lot of ranked teams. But not all of those teams were as good as their ranks implied. This is the same way Auburn made it to the championship game. The numbers (literally, the ranking numbers) are stacked in favor of the SEC. Do not take this to imply that I think Florida played a weak schedule. They certainly did not. They beat a lot of very good teams, but the numbers helped them out.

Look at LSU. They were over-ranked to begin with, but because they started so high and only lost to ranked teams, they barely fell at all. If they started at 23 and still lost to Alabama and Florida, they probably wouldn't have ended at 8. It'd probably be closer to 15.

The BCS doesn't start until half-way through the season, and the other polls shouldn't either. The preseason polls have FAR too much of an affect on the final season outcome. The selection committee will have its own problems, but I think it'll be better in the long run. It will take some control away from the polls, which have far too much power right now. The polls are the polls, the selection committee can use much more of the "eyeball test" to determine the best teams, not just numbers.

ULL and Jax State almost beat Florida, so obviously UF played a strong OOC schedule.

I'm not going to take way anything from your team, but that was a terrible game by us. Half of those turnovers were self inflicted. Driskel's INT in the endzone was just a terrible decision by him that he normally never does because he has been a really conservative QB. Probably his worst game of the season. He was bound to have a bad game since it's his first year as a starter. If you are going to say you were one play from being in the NC, you also have to acknowledge that this game could have easily bounced the other way.
It could have, that's true. But honestly I was happy with the win. Too many times have we had a better team yet snatched defeat from the jaws of victory or "given the game away." I'm just happy that it went the other way for a change. On a day when our QB had 3 interceptions, we still won. Definitely was one of Driskel's worst games, but playing good defenses does that to you. Ditto for Murray that day.

Jordan Wynn's done. Jesse Scroggins is going to Zona but I dunno if he's eligible for next season. Hogan's grasp on the job is probably going to be pretty solid.

Ah right, I knew Wynn got injured I just forgot it was a career ender.

I'll be amazed if Scroggins is eligible next year.

Quentin Dial may get suspended by SEC for his helmet to helmet hit on Murray. Steve Shaw said it should have been called during game and they're reviewing what to do now.

The Tim Brando "Hour of Repetition" on Finebaum was both hilarious and mind-numbingly stupid at the same time for this.

SEC Offices have no jurisdiction over the bowl game, so it'd be next year.

Waiting on the Eye Gouger and Ogletree's suspensions too.

Ogletree was penalized during the game. The issue here, I believe, is that Dial was not, so they're fixing that. Don't hate the messenger. Also, this article says they can suspend him for the MNC, not sure if that's right.

Alabama defensive lineman Quinton Dial should have been penalized in the SEC Championship Game for his hit on Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, SEC coordinator of officials Steve Shaw said today. Whether Dial misses the BCS Championship Game becomes the next question.

After reviewing video, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive will decide whether Dial misses the national championship against Notre Dame, Shaw said. Slive has suspended two SEC players this season for hits that targeted the head of players.

Klein, Manziel and Te'o invited to NY, lame theres no Braxton. Oh well next year it shall be his!

Also what a joke that Manti was invited.

You have to agree that it should be the ref's being penalized, right? Cause a 15 yard foul is not equal to a full game suspension.

Not that I agree with it being a foul or with the refs.

I mean, they miss calls all over the place.

And I can choose to hate the Messenger, thank you very much, I don't need your permission. [/Louisville on Louisville hate]

Was just entering my bowl picks when I noticed something odd. Apparently, 101% of pickers are favoring Florida, vs. just 3% for Louisville.

I don't think we'd have 104% participation with TTK.

God no. I hate those fuckers and their dumbass coach.
Whoa....someone actually hates Les Miles? I mean I will have a string of non-stop obscenities for him when he coverts his 3rd fake punt in a game against us, but he is not really a hateable coach. I hope he never leaves LSU. It will take some of the fun out of playing them every year.

Saban hate is 100% reasonable though.

He shouldn't be suspended a full game but that's the only way to punish a player if they miss it during the game. Probably not a full game but maybe a quarter or two.

yet somehow a non SEC team gets ranked #1 two years in a row, 3 of the top 5 are non SEC teams since 2007 and 2006, which both had 4 non SEC teams in the top 5. SEC bias confirmed! I am struggling to connect the dots on how these teams that are ranked high in the preseason polls only to shit the bed during the regular season is also somehow a pro SEC conspiracy but i'm having trouble there.

I think I have asked this question before, and CJ and a couple others chimed in and answered ( sadly I forgot their responses ), but why don't the Marines and Coast Guard have their own school/football team again?

There are 5 service academies.

Army, Navy (including the Marines), and Air Force all play NCAA Division IA.

The Coast Guard Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy both play NCAA Division III.

It's just the media looking for a "leader" on ND. Mauti from PSU had similar stats a few weeks ago (havent checked stats since)

The solution is for everybody else to stop sucking.

SO HOW ABOUT GEORGIA TECH & VIRGINIA TO THE BIG 10 ON MONDAY?

THE DUDE FROM WVU STRIKES AGAIN!

He's like Lord Federman back in the old days of GAF. Making up rumors that end up actually drumming interest in the players involved!

Haha I don't even wanna imagine what that Brando segment on Paul was like today. As if he wasn't annoying enough talking about that play a good 5 minutes on the halftime show.

Eh, it's clearly a matter of time. Writing is on the wall. If Maryland gets out on the cheap, ACC is about toast.

Can't do sound clips on GAF, but it looked like this for an hour.

Seems like the coach announcement is going to go down either tonight or tomorrow and by all accounts is either Gundy or Strong (unless something changes tonight). The fact that Gundy is still being mentioned must mean that the AD is calling his bluff, which if so then if we go for Strong I would imagine Arkansas would try for Gundy. Still think I would rather go with Strong but wouldn't complain if it was Gundy.

I'd be shocked... I think Gundy is angling for more money/control at OSU.

Don't think he'd leave when he's already paid among the top 10 coaches nationally and has built the program to this point. But I thought Harden would stay on the Thunder too.

Oh I know what he is doing I just figured we would have had a press release or something by now saying OSU was going to give him whatever it is he wants (doesn't seem like money).

And you know Harden was gone as soon as Ibaka resigned.
