Manziel for Heisman is a joke. His stats in the second half of games are abysmal. His numbers against the three ranked teams he faced (they lost to two of them at home) are pedestrian at best. He was arrested before the season showing a lack of personal integrity (which the Heisman trophy states as part of its criteria).
I like how when Case Keenum puts up silly video game numbers at Houston under the same coach, he's a system qb. But you translate that to Texas A&M and apparently this redshirt freshman (not a freshman) is doing this on his own.
Colin Klein is still a better qb than Manziel and lost fewer games. Mariota is a better quarterback/runner than Manziel and lost fewer games.
Freshman status should not hurt him.
He's got the SEC's single player yards for the season record. The previous 2 record holders won Heismans (Tebow and Cam).
He's got that Flutie knack for crazy runs. It's one thing to just run over people, or straight line speed, but he'll loop back around, fumble the ball, get the ball back, and throw a touchdown pass going the other direction from where his momentum is taking him. He's got a genuine Highlight Reel.
Unfortunately, the Alabama game really helped him in the Heisman Race.
Case Keenum was all passing. And since it's a system passing attack, it's not as impressive. Yes, Manziel's passing in that same system. It's not really the passing that's gotten him into the discussion. It's the wacky running around part.
Yes, more people should be told about his arrest in the offseason. I hadn't heard of it till after the Alabama game. More people should know that it includes underage drinking, false ID, and racial slurs. That should hurt his chances, but ESPN isn't talking about this.
Still doesn't mean that Manti should even be invited. He shouldn't. Might as well be Freddie Roach with hands (only limedust and mre will understand this ;P ) Basically, Freddie Roach's senior season, quarterback kept throwing right at him. Right in the numbers. Would have had 8+ INT's if he could actually catch a football.
Notre Dame, INT's and a E:60 story is what Manti Te'o is.
He's a nicer Rolando McClain. Great College LB, but not a Heisman winner. You need to break NCAA single season records on defense to get on that trophy. 25+ sacks, 15+ INT's, score multiple Defensive Touchdowns. Something gaudy.
Oregon's QB is good, but does not have Manziels numbers. Especially running (yeah, JFF ran more, but he leads the SEC in Rushing and Rushing TD's)
But then, Charles Woodson won a Heisman, so who fucking knows.
